This day in History - MMP

Hewwwooo there, Natty-batty-boo! Is him a good boy? Yes him is…

Sorry. I don’t really babytalk. In fact, my daughter commented to me the other day how we always spoke to her like she was a real person. It worked - she talks reeeeeeaaaaal good!

**tarra ** - good wishes to your dad!

I’m taking a lunch break. I’ve decorated one of the jars - I carved a bunch of geometric shapes into it. After it dries, I’ll paint the carved troughs in black, and the raised areas will be bright colors. I’ve started another - I carved out its feet and the lid, and after I finish lunch, I’ll be doing a floral design on it. Dunno if I’ll do any more today.

Fourth load is in the washer, third in the dryer. I’m leaving the last 2 for tomorrow. Oh yeah, thrillsville.

Well, harumph. Husband has asked me to check out Weight Watchers. One of the fellows he’s talks to at the Y has been on the plan for six months and has lost over 50 pounds. Truly, that is wonderful, but sheesh, I’m getting tired of my husband nagging me.

What he doesn’t know is that I have lost some weight. I don’t know how, but I’ve managed to do it. I know I need to lose weight and get in shape, I’m just not sure I want to do it through Weight Watchers. I’m not into meetings, etc. I live a busy life as it is.

I think there’s some sort of on-line version and I may check into that. I guess I should join the Y with my husband, maybe that’ll get him off my back some.

Finally, I really don’t eat all that unhealthily. Yes, we enjoy the occassional fast food dinner, but it’s not like we eat that all the time. Most of our meals are homecooked and I do practice portion control. My lunch is salad 99.9% percent of the time with NO dressing. The salad dressings in our DFAC suck, so I just go without.

Part of my problem is that I’m a notorious meal skipper. I rarely eat breakfast. Breakfast is coffee. On weekends, or if I"m not at work, I don’t eat anything until dinner. This plays havoc with my metabolism. I really am not all that hungry most of the time, so I just don’t eat.

Finally, I realize I should lose weight and get into shape because* I* want to, not because my husband wants me to lose weight. I do want to lose weight, I’m just trying to figure out how I’m supposed to fit all this into my schedule.

Maybe I’ll surprise my husband and go to the Y with him on Monday.

Ack, I’m having guests over in six hours and I haven’t even started cooking!

And sometimes their posts are rendered invisible…
(I kid, I kid)…

Oooooh, it’s Nat!!! Hi!!! I’m your aunt GT. You’re getting so big already!

Sorry to hear you’re Dad’s not doing so well, tarra. good thoughts and prayers headed his way - and yours. I’m an Irish Breakfast Tea fan as well. I like it much better than other black teas.

I’m done with valentines and am doing another couple of cards for others before heading off to the 24-hour post office. I also need to send Faraway Best Friend’s mom a package - she left a couple of things in Germany and we decided it was easier (if not faster) if I sent them to her.

Glad Mr. Inappropriate was strong and got out of there. You’re right, relationships that stay together due to begging aren’t likely to flourish.

I’ve taken industrial strength antihistamines, and still my eyes are itchy. I wonder what I’m allergic to.

Back to putting stuff together for the post office.

GT

Stupid package said boil noodles for 10 minutes - they LIED! I tasted them at 5 mins and they were perfect.

Hi, all. Man, take one day off from the MMP and there’s so much to catch up on!

Hi, Nat! What a big boy you are! Remember, sleeping at night is the most important thing a baby can do!

Thoughts and prayers headed out for your dad, herbs. I hope things look up for him soon.

I’m glad your shoulder is feeling better, CutiePie.

Speaking of sore shoulders, apparently one of our Idiots, Rusty, strained his shoulder a bit yesterday when Papa Tigs took them swimming. Of course, being Rusty, he proceeded to go into full-in hangdog, moping around and stumbling around like he was in utter agony. We knew he was hurting a bit when I sat down next to him and picked his head up a bit and he yelped in pain, but by this morning he had us nearly convinced he’d torn his shoulder completely apart or something. And then this morning, after we gave him an aspirin and finally coaxed him to eat a bit of breakfast, he heard Isaac barking out in the back yard – and he took off at a dead run, cleared the three steps down to the back yard without even touching them, and took off at a full gallop once he landed! Stoopit dog, had us convinced he was dying, and he just had a minor ouchy! :frowning: So we’re going to keep giving him aspiring for a few days – it works as well for dogs as for humans – and otherwise not believing him!

LiLi, Young Tiger had awful colic for several months. He always got it during the evening, and in his case it was more intestinal cramping than actual gas, it seemed – when it got really bad, at my doctor’s suggestion I gave him a little Tylenol and it seemed to stop it in its tracks. You might ask your doctor about that if Nat does turn out to be genuinely colicky; it really helped for us. It made everyone feel better – there’s nothing worse than your baby feeling bad and you feeling helpless to do anything about it!

I’m still struggling along with Snooty Old Lady. I honestly don’t think I have EVER had a job where I had to look up so many things online; it takes about five times as long to do as many jobs. But as I told the folks at the office when they asked whether I’d have it done on time, they can either have it on time and sloppy or a bit late and really, really accurate. This way, they’ll get a transcript that they won’t have to waste many hours cleaning up by looking up all those names of things. I honestly don’t know how I ever survived pre-Google!

I got myself the most useful knitting/reading toy ever yesterday – it’s a Beam 'n Read light that does a simply amazing job of lighting your work area, or your book if you’re reading. Best $30 I’ve spend in I don’t know how long! I was able to knit in the car in the pitch-dark last night without bothering Papa Tigs at all; I could see what I was doing perfectly, and the light shines down so well he barely even noticed it even though I was sitting right beside him. I highly recommend it! And it comes with three magnifying screens for when my eyes are feeling particularly old. Which is far too often these days. :frowning:

Papa Tigs got a new CPAP yesterday. His old one was 10 years old. The new one is about 1/4 the size and is just astonishingly advanced – it senses his breathing and sleeping levels somehow and has a smart card that he’ll send in in a month so they can see if it’s working properly. What will they think of next? But he slept FAR better with it last night than he’s slept in a long, long time, so here’s hoping it works. Because when he sleeps better? I sleep better because he’s not waking me up all the time!

Back to work, alas. I’m determined to finish up Snooty Old Lady today!

Ooh, I forgot one thing I meant to post. A friend sent me this link, to possibly the funniest musical performance I have seen in I don’t know how long. I do love creative music!

And I love the blogger’s comment who posted it: “Wow, this is the kind of thing that reminds me how much less interesting life was before the Internet.” So true!

Done with sculpting and laundry for today. The second jar has flowers and leaves all over it - I see a very colorful piece once its fired. For now, I’m chilling till I have to steam up the crablegs. Well, not quite - I have to feed the doggies in about half an hour.

Kitteh joined me in my studio for a while, but he wasn’t too impressed. Brandy used to come down and sit on the shelf under my glazing table, just hanging with me. This guy is an explorer. When I opened my damp cabinet to get a piece out, he wandered in to check out the bottom shelf. I’m going to have to be careful about checking behind doors before I close them.

No doubt about it - we’ve got us a cool kitteh. Just gotta name him…

My dog is a bad dog.

I took her with me this morning as I went to hunt down the school I’ll be observing at next week. She hasn’t gone bye-bye inna car for a long time, so this was a treat for her.

She pooped in the back seat.
Dog’s damn lucky it was easy to clean up and there was carpet cleaner back at the house, otherwise I’d have a new dogskin rug.

Um… ew.

Am back from library. Car thing was an unbalanced wheel-no charge (nice!). I’m kinda crabby right now. I am sick of MY house being THE house for 9 year old boys. Then again, maybe I need a nap…
Hello, young Nathan! How’s tricks?

Not much to add. Tomorrow I’m at the library AGAIN (this is getting old), to work on my stuff this time. Don’t tell the prof or anyone, but this is stupid. Ok, so maybe my 'tude sucks today. So be it.

::stands on chair with lit lighter held high::

OK, so I’m as bad as a new grandma with a gazillion baby pics. But here are more kitteh pics. He seems to be quite comfy in his new home. And he seems to have figured out the 4:00 = wet food time. Smart kitteh, this one.

Hi Gnat! Remember, mommy and daddy love it when you cry and carry on half the night. They don’t really need to sleep.

Herbs I’ll keep your dad and you and your brothers in my thoughts and prayers. Maybe he’ll feel better once he gets settled in the new place. Moving is overwhelming enough without depression on top of it all.

Supper tonight will be grilled smoked pokechops and other stuff which I ain’t figured out yet. Maybe some field peas with snaps and some smashed garlic N.O.T. that’d be good. Hmm… maybe some of those frozen breadsticks that are so good too…cooked first, of course. Breadsticksicles would be strange, even for me.

I don’t think you are though. Did anyone catch a screenshot of “nat”? Probably not, I seem to be the only one who enjoys this hobby.
Anyways, yes I’m still here. I’ll be leaving for colder climates tomorrow. I had a b-day party for my grandma and was stuck much later than I expected. Nap now, travel later.

Spaz, are you sure it was the dog? I’ve seen similar frame-jobs.

Now I remember why I hated Lunar New Year. Dumplings are a bitch to make.

And I forgot to buy kimchii. Oh well. My friends will have to do without, I suppose.

Allowing you all to catch up on my life, now that I’ve skimmed through yours…

Yesterday, a little bit of work, a trip to the gym then downtown to meet Wife for dinner (Redfish, only so-so) and a concert (Prine & Iris Dement at the Chicago Theater). I think this makes 6 times I’ve seen John and it never gets old. The fans do though apparently, since quite a few people had some trouble fitting into their seats, and there seemed to be a LOT more flannel shirts than I recall at the other shows.

Home late from that, crashed and got up early to stop by work to drop something off for a driver, then to Cuervo’s doctor, with him in tow of course. He’s started wheezing/sneezing/coughing a bit lately. He’s active as all hell, chasing and getting chased by the Bear, his appetite is great and all that. But some of you may recall that as a wee kitty, he fought a bad URI. He won of course, but Doc Heather said at the time that he might be more susceptible to developing asthma. The doc that saw him today wasn’t Doc Heather, but she listened and didn’t hear any liquidy noises in his chest. He got a week’s worth of Clavacol and next week he’ll see Doc Heather again.

Wife and I are leaving in a few to check into the hotel where the Valentine’s dance is that we’re going to tonight. This involves all the Usual Suspects, and often leads to massive inebriation, and one of us calling one our offspring to bring a few cases of White Castle’s by sometime around midnight. Hence the room to stay in that does not involve driving anywhere until morning.

Oh yes. She hopped in the front seat right after she did it and looked guilty all the way home. I threatened to leave her on the side of the road and let her find her own way home if she ever did that again.

I am going to send that link to everybody I know. \m/

Ooooh, I want one! That way I don’t have to leave the overhead light on when I’m watching a movie and embroidering!

Sounds like fun, MBG. Good way to ensure a safe celebration. Hope Cuervo’s wheeziness clears up.

I pretty much ignore noodle instructions, Hank. They always say to cook them much longer than necessary. Apparently most people like noodles mushy.

Pretty kitty pictures, FCM.

My valentines are gone, along with a couple of other cards that I needed to send and a couple of packages. Also stopped by at the Mexican grocery for tortillas, plantains and Mexican zucchini (it’s milder than regular zucchini).

Now I’m sleepy. Maybe I’ll take a nap before getting a few more things done.

GT

Thanks for the prayers and well wishes all! My brother said that our Dad was doing well today–last night, it may have been his bourbons talking. I probably should have guessed that, as I heard ice tinkling, but I think I was just too concerned at what he was telling me to listen for that. I won’t thump any drums about that right now, though. LOL I’m just grateful that he’s not as bad off as I had thought–even though he is still going through a lot of change in his life right now. Thanks again, ALL!

Hey Nat! Sorry to hear that his tummy seems to be upset, LiLi; trying to remember what my peds said to do for colic - it’s been 20 years here! I do remember that spicy foods come out in the breast milk, though, and could upset baby tummy. Also you could try gently rubbing his abdomen to help push the gas through, or do little bicycle type movement with his legs, which also might help to push the gas through. Sorry if that’s TMI, folks. Good luck, and ask the pediatrician too what might help.

FCM, I think Tornado has given you his name already. He really is a beautiful kitteh!

Tomorrow a cold front is coming through–this is the one that you folks out in the mid-west have already gotten; they are forecasting wind gusts up to 50 MPH  So tomorrow, I will get all my valentines done and in the mail. Yes I will! It will definitely be an indoors day. I think grocery shopping can wait until later on in the week. LOL

Haze, thinking of you and hoping that things will work out with your visa. So, will it truly be a NY celebration -without- the kimchee?

Hugs and prayers, as appropriate, and again thanks for the prayers for me Dad!
