Well, that was an interesting night. No sleep (that I recall), and I’ve already run errands and shoveled the driveway. Time to do nothing and lots of it. Class today. Boring…
It snowed another 3 inches last night. This is heart attack snow-heavy, heavy, heavy. Then again, I feel I got my workout. Our driveway is about 190 feet long.
I have a small homework thingy to do. Then perhaps a nap before class at 2pm.
We want before and after pics of the Faerie Kitchen,** Boo**!
**Haze **-- would it be fair to say that the male segment of the population is highly represented within those students always coming up to say hi to you?
**Tigs **-- the Chicken Pox vaccination is still an elective in Israel; in my HMO it will cost you either $60 or $10 (roughly), depending on your level of coverage. I didn’t look up the stats, but I suspect most parents let it take its course. It’s very common to see 7-8 YO’s being brought over to friends who have the pox in order to make sure they get it, too; at that age it isn’t too severe, and the kids can understand and follow the bit about not scratching.
**Rigs **-- 190’ of shoveling? I think I’m getting a heart-attack just from thinking about it!
Nurse! Help!!!
My valentines are going out on Wednesday; I hope that’s enough time for most of the US destinations!
Jeez, I’ve been a bad Mumper of late. (Offer of spanking will be given due consideration.) I’ve gotten myself involved in a few extracurricular projects and it’s had the tendency to eat away at my free time, the net result of which is that I’m already hopelessly behind in my Dope duties.
Cool OP though – seems like today has been a historically momentous day for the last few centuries. I remember the Karen Carpenter thing, too; like Hank, my dad had The Best Of record of The Carpenters that I used to listen to back in the 70s. I have long since developed my own taste on music, though. I listened to Dead Man’s Curve constantly. I remember the movie about Karen, too.
VBob - Bet that got their panties in a twist. [sub]However would they get to the bars?[/sub]
Luminus - May I call you Luminus? It’s much easier to type than Illuninatiprimus. Welcome aboard! Have some pie.
English - I’m a recent graduate, so they stick me with all the Comp 101 and 102 classes. I dream of teaching a Literature 101 class one day. What about you?
mmouse, I always think of my students in diminuitive terms, despite the fact that they’re not that much younger than me (or even older than me a lot of the time). It’s a mindset I had to develop, because teaching students close to you in age can be difficult - plus I look a bit younger than I am and get mistaken for a student for a lot. I have to constantly remind myself I’m actually a teacher.
Noone, I haven’t really been paying attention, actually. What, you think my students are trying to flirt with me? I must seem pretty old to them - I mean, when I was 18-19, 25 seemed like aaaaages away.
Mindy, are you saying you want a spanking? :: stern look ::
I had people over until 10 or so I think, then went out to snowblow the driveway, then didn’t get to sleep until after 1, then got up at 3:30 just tom make sure the roads were safe, then went back to bed until 6.
So, yeah, I’m a bit tired and a lot crabby, y’all want to keep it down in here?
Do you know how many weight watchers points are in this, perchance? And if I must have a nickname (and I accept that my full name is a bit unwieldy) then I could do a lot worse than Luminus.
Having seen pictures of you, Haze, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if you get students trying to flirt with you.
Nothing much happening here. My roommate decided that the internet service we were pirating was just too crappy, so he’s gone ahead and gotten it. Man, I hadn’t realized how bad it was. Now the crap connection at work is going to seem even worse than it already is, but at home I’m flying!
So, what do you do when you have a cat who can open doors?? Granted, it’s not that tough - our handles are levers rather than knobs, but still… We left the 2 bedroom doors open so he could explore the house if he wanted to. Apparently he wanted to explore the 3rd bedroom, because when I came home, it was open. I was told Bengals are curious. Yep, he is.
Don’t care about football. I’m tired because I had a lousy night - kept waking up. ugh. I’ve got chickie tits thawing for supper, but I haven’t decided on the sides yet. My car has been serviced and I’ll be picking it up as soon as my sweetie gets home. I’ve got an appointment on Thursday for Scruffy’s shots and the cat’s first check up with this vet. We’ve got to come up with a name for him.
Those of you who commented on the apparent softness of his coat - you’re absolutely right. He’s sooooooo soft and pettable. And he’s a little attention whore. He plopped down in bed between me and FCD and moved from one side to the other for skritches. At one point, he burrowed under the covers and snuggled up next to me. Definitely a character!
Nothing else exciting to share. Just another day in paradise. rah.
Welcome, new mumpers!! Happy b-day, deadeyesdad!!
Now, where are all of the chocolate love offerings?!?!?
Well, obedient *and * polite! luminus, you are acceptable in our sight!
Couple more kitteh pics to share - taken as he explored the half wall at the entry. He still runs back to the bedrooms more than he’ll hang out here, but it took our last cat a week to take over, so I’m not too concerned. At this moment, he’s sitting at the end of the hall, barely in the living room, staring at the dogs. Poor kitteh - he’s outnumbered!
Dearest Illuminatiprimus, I could add you to the map if you’d like. I’ve stopped making moves, but new adds are allowed.
“bbs2k, you put meeeeee 2 miles from my actual location!!!”
Looks like it’s been a fairly quiet day here in Mumpland. At least no crises are brewing, except for Rigs’ sore hip. I hope it feels better soon!
I have definitely been a Good Girl. Got lots and lots of work done. Now, alas, I need to move on to the next giant job. It’s another old interview from the Smithsonian Archives of American Art – apparently they finally got funding to transcribe interviews they’ve been recording for many, many years. The one I’m working on is from 1980, I assume done on a high-quality reel-to-reel tape recorder originally because the sound is just amazingly clear. Here’s hoping it’s as interesting as the last one was – I learned a lot from the last one about how to look at art photography as art, not just as pretty pictures. My job can certainly be strange at times. :dubious:
And then after working I took the Idiots out in the yard, since it’s currently 50° out there (!!), and threw and threw and threw the Kong for Isaac while giving Rusty a thorough brushing with the Furminator™. That is a truly amazing brush – the amount of loose hair I get off the dogs and the cat is quite astonishing. The local squirrels and birds are going to be very happy come spring nest-building time!
You are gonna have FUN with Dog, Mooom! And I still don’t see why you need to give him a name; he already has a name, and it sounds like he’s living up to it well! He’ll be the household pack leader in no time!
