This inflight wifi is pretty cool...

Had other entertainment options, but decided to try it for the first time in a 3 hour flight. A bit of a treat, certainly, but the cost probably has at least something to do with the relatively good speed. Kinda cool, posting from the plane.

How much did it cost?

The first rule of having internet flight access…

$10 for an entire flight, and yes, indeed.

Not a bad price. I would pay it.
I remember when AMTRAK and Greyhound got internet access. Sure made boring trips much more pleasant.

(Haven’t flown in over 10 years. They had crappy audio, crappy DVD movies back then. It was either that, bring a book to read, or stare out the window).

I took a JetBlue flight a few months ago, and the basic internet was free. So I surfed the SDMB and sent email to my family (because I could).

Yes, I can listen to other passengers talking on google-phone, instead of quietly looking out the window or reading a good book. A couple months ago, I was on Greyhound riding across the outback in northern Australia, and a woman across the aisle was talking the whole while to her little grandbabies in Wyoming. Much more pleasant.

I have serious reservations about the emotional stability of people who cannot wait until their flight lands to get back to surfing the internet. For what it’s worth, I was on a three-day boat crossing last summer, on which there was no wifi, no cell connection, no tv. It was wonderful. I went three days without ever hearing a cell phone ring or anybody yelling into one or the annoying crackle of speaker-phone voices… The passengers actually talke dto each other – complete strangers. Imagine that…

What does surfing the Internet have to do with talking on the phone? And why is interacting with strangers more important than interacting with loved ones and friends?

How will you check the webcam that’s pointed at your lawn?
