This is the title Discourse lets me put in as a MMP

The way this year is going, I think it’s a very good thing I don’t do alcohol. I’d be chugging down bottles on a regular basis, I’m afraid.

I’ll never claim to be a teetotaler. In the Before Times, Mrs. W and I would share a bottle of wine with dinner maybe 3 or 4 nights a week, with the occasional martini thrown in.

Since March, though, the nights without alcohol have been few and far between. And the proportion of vodka to wine has gone up.

I’m not saying it’s a bad thing.

I’ll pile on some more hugs for {{{{Butters}}}} and {{{{shoe}}} with a few uppercuts to the demons.

And I’ll add my voice to the chorus that a talk with a professional neutral person (psychiatrist or psychologist) is probably a good idea for both Butters and HubofButters.

Someone mentioned lasagne. Weather was horrible during the week, and now that the weekend’s here, the sun’s come out. But I’m keeping that idea on the list of things to make. It’ll take time, but we’ll get a lot of meals out of it.

Got the towels going in the laundry and hubby will wash the sheets later. I mostly have the menus planned for the next 4 days, now I have to make the list and go shopping after lunch.

Also up on the schedule: figure out who delivers Islay whisky.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to sort. Had a line of storms come through an hour ago, the last of Zeta.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 48 (BRR!) Amurrkin out and fair (as opposed to unjust?) with a predicted high of 71 and N.O.S. for the day. This afternoon both of us shall head over to the church house to roll pee-kahns. Sounds fun does it not! We’ve had a bumper crop and the last of 'em need to be gathered, so several of us shall gather to do so. We’ll start around one and should get finished in a couple of hours. After that we shall decide on what we shall sup upon. The idea of gut bombers from Krystal has been tossed around.

Nellie glad you were able to get settled in the hotel. Also, glad you liked the video. What you saw in the background is just part of what gets mowed. We have a lot of grounds!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Firday Y’all!

It appears that Zeta is done with us also. When I ran to the credit union yesterday afternoon, I noticed Clements Creek, where it runs under the bridge that was washed out during the last big 'un, was again over its banks, but the bridge was standing firm, so there’s that. And our neighbor whose lot seems to be the low point was again living on waterfront property. Our yard was really squishy - walking out to FCD’s shop was a challenge. But it seems to be done, and we might have sun this afternoon.

I managed to mostly sleep in till nearly 6, which is a victory for me! I have breakfasted, and I’m caffeinating. When I’m done reading, I’ll push the vacuum around and tidy the kitchen. There’s a meatloaf thawing for tonight’s supper. Not sure what else the day will hold - apart from a confirmation of our loan closing. We shall see.

Happy Firday!!

Morning, mumpers! It’s relatively mild here today, bit grey but a nice autumnal day. I was up early, in the gym at 7am, stopped off to get petrol on the way home as Keith’s warning light was on and said I’d got about 38 miles left in the tank. As I was at the supermarket anyway, I went in and got some mushrooms as we’d run out and I need some for tonight’s dinner.

Restorative tea has been slurped, toast and Marmite ingested, and the laundry’s on. Oh, and I’m at irk as well. First message from the boss this morning had “FFS!!” to start with…so I fixed the thing that was annoying her

Listened to a farcebook live music thing last night from my favourite singer, and I’m watching it again on ewetoob this morning too. I sent a link to the boss, in the hopes it might help keep her calm for the rest of the day. Poor woman is swamped with work, and the demands just keep coming. I’m taking some of it for her but there’s more than we know what to do with. Plus we are losing two of our admin team to the voluntary leaver’s scheme so they will be gone by the end of December. That means distributing more work to fewer people…

Anyhoo…Swampy’s video link has prompted me to fix the laptop so it plays stuff instead of showing me a green screen. Most of the time I wasn’t bothered about it as the sound works fine, but now I need pics

What am I missing? There’s no video link that I see…

This year is the reason I stopped drinking hard liquor at all and beer except out with friends. All too easy to crawl into a bottle and never come out. This Tuesday night has an exemption, of course.

Laved, shaved, cocoa-ed and ready to toils in the fields of Academia. The appraiser is coming by today to do a once-over for the refi. Here’s hoping he tags the house somewhere near what Redfin has it listed as.

Happy Friday, y’all!

Morning all. It’s 49F outside right now, so definitely Fall has settled in. For the first time this season I’ve turned the heat on as soon as I got up (it wasn’t all that cold but I like a toasty house). Shopping and banking are on the schedule for today so I’ll probably start getting ready here shortly.

FCM, my bedroom has blue walls, so I was just finnin’ ya…

Boo fae, sounds like some new hires might be in the offing…or the powers-that-be may just decide your boss and you and your remaining colleagues can somehow manage…

swampy, what does ‘rolling’ pecans mean? Some type of gathering device to pick them up? And you can send them this way, I love pecans…

Nettie, have tried it but it’s not published in the paper and I don’t buy books except when traveling…but it is unique.

Nellie, glad the train was on time…doesn’t sound like the Seattle I remember visiting many years ago. Hope the appointment goes well today.

All y’all have a good Firday.

Happy Firday!
Maybe happy, I don’t know yet.

We met up at the other park this morning, wet and messy. We got kicked out by the park people because they are doing some irk there. Replacing the fence, which wouldn’t irk too well with the dogs running loose. Found out that they are turning the dog park back into a softball field and are putting in a new dog park behind it, with higher fences, big and small sides, and a cage at the entrance. We are also getting a new dog park in the next town over, which may include the creek.
That will give up three dog parks to choose from.
I love living in a dog friendly area.

The rain has stopped and the wind has started and it’s frigging cold outside. I took my neighbor to his doctor appointment, when we left a little after 8 I was comfortable in sweats, but the time we got back at 9:45, I was freezing.

The lawn/fence/bathroom guy (really need to find him a shorter name) is coming to put the tub in today. I hope the wind doesn’t interfere with those plans.

Nice video Swampy, except your priest dresses funny. Must be a southern thing.

Nice guest room FCM

{{{Butters}}}

{{{Shoe}}} And you don’t kick demons out, you make friends with them.

Then you sic them on people you don’t like

Good luck with the new furnace Boo

{{{Nellie}}}

I wish the walls in my house were painted beige. Instead they are some kind of cream I think, they look kind of yellowish in the light, a fugly yellow that just looks dirty.

I have stuff to do but I don’t know what to do. I don’t know what time he is getting here to put the tub in. I don’t want to start something and then get interrupted. I supposed I should start with some breakfast.

Sort went OK for once. : cue ominous music :

“Some times I struggle with my inner demons. Sometimes we spoon.”

Someone explain this to me: overlygirl’s teachers at school had some secondhand contact with a staff member who tested positive for COVID. So they’re quarantining the teachers and having the kids go to school as usual, only to be instructed via zoom. What is the point of them being in the building? Seriously, why? I have a feeling my husband and I may pull her out next week and just keep her virtual. This makes zero sense and with my mom gearing up for surgery it’s way too big a risk.

Plus, this is only overlygirl’s third day at school for Pete’s sake. What’s going to happen when this transition period is over and all the students are in school together?

A crapstorm within a crapstorm. Today is sunny and beautiful. Hopefully warmer. Overlyboy’s last day of finals is today, so I’m crossing my fingers for him and excited he’ll get a few days off to rest his tired brain.

Strange – don’t recall seeing anything about snow in the forecast for today…

34 out, predicted high today 44 and low 25.

Lady SCAdian took my suggestion and made chicken & onions for supper last night and served it over rice. Basically it was her liver & onions recipe (small pieces of liver, bacon, and onions), with chicken vice liver and different seasoning. Turned out to be very good, and will be made often in the future.

Need to get to the library this afternoon, return some books, and pick up a stack so I’ll have something to do between customers Tuesday (ha!).

All 3 of the bedrooms are blue, as is the master bath. I’m kinda wishing I’d gone with green in the master suite. Oh well…

Roxy is down for her nap. FCD is pouting because our credit union is still having computer issues so we can’t do the money transfer that we want to do. He seems to take these sorts of things personally - drives me crazy.

We had a little sun, but it’s back to overcast and dreary. I am not impressed. But it’s not like I can do anything about it. So I’ll just whine a little then move on. Because I’m an adult. Dammit. :stuck_out_tongue:

I voted! Woo-hoo! (Have y’ll voted? VOTE.)

Yesterday I did a few things, which was nice. Today I’m paying for it, but I’m still happy that I had a decent day.

We took Akiko with us to run errands. Yoshi refused to get into the car. He acted like we were trying to shove him into a trap and relocate him to the woods. So he got to stay home in his crate. We’ll have to work on getting in and out of the truck, so he learns it won’t eat him.

I got some shrimp for dinner, and am planning shrimp scampi. I have angel hair pasta to go with it, and I bought some nice bread to go with it. I think the hubby and 'Beamette have eaten it all though. :unamused:

HAPPY FRIDAY!

Angels in mortal’s clothing.

I know we Dopers are a more engaged bunch than the average citizen, so I trust this message is already being heeded, but I’ll repeat it anyway. VOTE!

Mrs W and I mailed in our ballots a couple weeks ago. Here in Cali you can go online to track your ballot, all the way from “we got it” to “your signature has been verified” to “we opened the envelope” to “your ballot has been counted! Yay!”
It was actually quite exciting to follow along. That, or I need to get out more.

My point is, there’s no excuse not to do this. If you vote in person on Tuesday, do it safely, but do it!

Poor fellow, he found his wished for car and now gremlins are friggin’ things up. I would be fussed too. Toss some chocolate in his cage and see if he calms down. Switch him to decaf. Suggest a nap. Gremlins will do what gremlins do, I’ve learned to wait ‘em out. Which probably explains why I’m huddled under a fuzzy blanket in a house without a furnace.

@Nelliebly hoping the doctor’s appt is going swell and you will have good news to share. Also wishing you a nice lunch and dinner and a good night’s sleep in your hotel bed for an uneventful train ride home.

Everyone else, I’m reading and thinking of y’all, boo just doesn’t have anything clever to say at the moment.

Swampy, in the video, which one is you? Your church is lovely and welcoming inside, the amount of mowage looks daunting but you have gorgeous grounds and yes, your pastor does ‘dress strange’ but looks like a kind, gentle, earnest fellow. A lot to be said for that. Did I hear him right, he is a plaster for an Episcopalian congregation and a Lutheran one? How does he keep it all straight?

It’s a drizzly gray morning in the PNW, which makes me want to hibernate. Franch totes for breakfast this a.m. I like to put orange zest on it, which peps things up a bunch.

Some idiot (or car thief) parked their car across my driveway last night. Checked with the neighbors and nobody knows who it belongs to, so the Ms called the cops. It’s not like there isn’t plenty of space for parking on our street.

No fix-it projects for today, for a change. I’m still basking in hero-glow after putting in the new drawer slide yesterday. I’m glad she’s easily impressed.
