And nope, nothing on the other known Menudo singers. Like I said, not all of them went on to be on the public eye, and maybe some of those that ARE gay just preferred to keep themselves out of the public eye.
As to the rumors… the rumors in Spanish started long before he had the kids via a surrogate a couple of years ago. He had long term, public relationships with beautiful women, and not a talk about marriage or engagement (in a culture in which, for the most part, long term partnership ends in marriage). I think some of the rumours started then.
No, no one follows him around looking for his “Gayness”, but while he might not discuss it, he doesn’t try to hide it. He did go to gay bars, and make out there (when he was younger). Just becasue a celebrity doesn’t choose to discuss it doesn’t mean it isn’t real. Cooper just bought an old firehouse from the NYC fire dept. in the West Village where he and his boyfriend live. Neighbors know, locals know, it is not a secret. But then again any of number of paparazzi shot of Ricky Martin on vacation and canoodling with scantily clad men exist and have for years. I think what is bothering people about Martin is how he is now trying to use his “Coming OUT” as a bid to make himself a relavant celebrity. As a gay man I think that send a bad message to kids “Hide who you are until you need to use you identity to help you gain something”
Eh… Again, I repeat, to the English entertainment press. It’s not as if Ricky has spent the last ten years of his life hidden from public view in the Latin American/Spanish/non-English press.
Although, I’ll admit, he did come out (publicly) now, not when he was younger and even more famous than what he currently is. Before, he was still establishing himself, now he is just maintaining his career. He waited long enough so that his image wouldn’t be as affected.
A cynic might suggest that he’s coming out now because his career is at a lull, and this was meant to boost it.
You mean a celebrity might cynically take advantage of the tabloid press – do tell.
Younger gay/lesbian celebrities do come out when their career is at a lull; older ones come out just as their autobiography is about to hit the bookstores.
And vice versa.

Rumor has long been he slept with the manager of Menudo when he was an older teen and that he was willing to lie on the casting couch to get roles when he started as an actor. If so I think this is despicable. And I want to be a casting director.
