This Just In: Makeup Is Evil

i don’t think anyone’s asking for applause, but just the recognition that just because I wear makeup it doesn’t mean I’m shallow, unnatural, false or a clown.

Well, I don’t think it makes you shallow, unnatural, false, or a clown, and I agree that it is Not Nice for anyone to suggest that it does. But I think comments like the one maryliza mentioned (“I don’t really care whether women wear makeup or not, but I don’t get why you would”) are harmless. Some people really just don’t understand why a woman would want to bother with putting on makeup.

That’s great. If people wanna where make-up and somehow look better in it…good for them! I though, look much worse in make-up. I took pictures even to check. When I put on make-up it takes the glow off my skin (covers it up in foundation) and makes my eyes look weird. Basically I either don’t need it or just don’t have a damn clue how to put it on, but as it is…it makes my face look worse.

Also, as a kid my friend asked about what sort of make-up I used on my eyes. I snottily sneered “Why would I make myself look like this on purpose?” To which her reply was to give me the standard ‘you’re such a bitch’ look as I didn’t wear a damn thing (women know what I mean). Also funny: My dad accused me of putting make-up on my eyebrows when I was 12 and even made me wash my face like three times before my mom informed him that’s just how I looked through her laughter. Do you hate me yet? I know I do.

I feel very weird wearing makeup in daylight. At night or indoors I can wear it, and I do like wearing it. When I wear makeup “for real” I wear just a touch and make it look natural

Other times, I like to pile it on for fun ( http://www.fathom.org/opalcat/kitty3b.jpg )

I think I look better with makeup than without (side by side comparison) but I’m far too lazy and I don’t give a crap if people think I look dolled up when I run to the grocery store or whatever… so I almost never wear it.

I say to each his (well, her) own.

I knew one girl who would randomly wear either relatively “heavy” make-up (i.e.- none of that “natural look” stuff), or none at all. It was all based on her whim… sometimes she felt like it, others she didn’t.

She looked great either way… but, in my opinion, the “with-makeup” look was more interesting in that “hey, that’s a little new and different” sort of way…

Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of me in my stage makeup to display, like our dear Madame Opal’s, but when my best friend saw me in it, her first words were, “You look so homosexual.” I took it as a compliment.

I think all women, and probably even some men, look better in makeup. But on one hand you have women who look great with or without makeup, and on the other you have women who only look good with makeup. I’m assuming you’re of the former group, and I think it’s safe to say that most men are attracted to that group. Besides, what do you care what other people think about your wearing makeup? If it makes you feel good, that’s all that matters.
