I had the exact same reaction a few minutes ago. I was listening to NPR, and they were playing an interview with one of the big names in indie rock - I can’t remember his name. Anyway, he was saying how he’s really always been a metalhead, and as a child, he would raid his baby sitter’s vinyl collection looking for new music. One day, he pulled out Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man”.
They, of course, played that massive, iconic intro on NPR. I immediately had this incredibly physical rush of pleasure. I got goose bumps, I started smiling, and it totally made my day.
That was awesome. My cousin listened to a lot of Led Zeppelin when I was little. I remember hating “Whole Lotta Love” 'cause Robert plant’s screams halfway through the song scared me. I still don’t like it much, mostly because now I know why he’s screaming and it’s a bit embarrassing to listen to.
