This thread goes backwards

Ninja’d!

I don’t know everyone. This thread seems to be all over the place and I still have no idea what endlessly repeating decimals are tied into utilizing music while in battle.

Oh, Hell, breakfast is comin’ up! 'Scuse me!

Trying to connect battle strategy with obscure maths might be interesting if the maths actually worked… But they don’t. I’m sorry, 0.99… is still 1, so the whole theory falls apart.

Maybe the math isn’t obscure enough… Hmm…

Careful there, some of us almost got that equation.

And the interesting part, the really interesting part, is that a volcano absolutely erupted in there.

Jamal’s Theorem states that the more volcanoes you place within a 200 mile radius of each other, the more likely that even one eruption will set off a chain reaction that might lead to, say, global extinction. Not sure who this Jamal is, though.

As to your second point,** Elendil’s Heir **said Colonel MacArthur was an officer who “led his men into battle”. It’s common knowledge that highland regiments have historically marched into battle playing bagpipes! So the aforementioned connection between music and battle is actually quite well documented.

Lastly, I was referring to the 1945 eruption of Mt. Ruapehu which claimed 150 lives, not the most recent 2006 eruption. My point was that while the loss of 150 lives is tragic, it pales in comparison to all the deaths that have occurred on battlefields during that same period.

I’m just here for the ambience.

You sure complain a lot. Why are you even here?

I had to see through people’s bullshit. It was useful experience, 'cause now it’s my life.

Think about the music. The drum and fife and flag is a classic Revolutionary War image. Or the well remembered WWII songs. Heck, Ride of the Valkyries certainly isn’t about volcanoes, right?

This whole business about War Anthems being started as a paean to the Volcano God is just silly.

I have long held the conviction that war anthems originated as paeans to the Volcano God. I can’t be the only one. Who else among us agrees with me?

What you’re saying makes a lot of sense. Except, what about war anthems? There’s absolutely zero reason for them to exist.

Aw hell, guys, Go_Arachnid_Laser heard us. What do you wanna bet he comes over and tries to sneak one of his war obsessions into the conversation?

I hear what you’re saying, but here’s the thing…0.99999999999999 is NOT the same as 1. ‘Same’ implies equal, and while the difference may be very small there is still a difference. I think we can all agree on that.

If you try to divide 100 by 3, the result will be 33.33333333, etc. It will never resolve itself into a whole number. Yet you can still divide 100 by thirds evenly. It’s just a matter of the mechanics by which you divide.

I knew you’d say that. I just knew it.
