This was not the week to quit smoking!

I quit smoking (again) Tuesday morning.

Tuesday afternoon my wife called me at work. The dog walked up to her, started shaking, and pissed all over the floor. he then proceeded to puke and shit all over and fall flat on his face. I rushed home to find him unable to stand. I took him to the vet and they had no clue. I ended up having them put him down, as he was old and there was no way I could afford to have them run random tests until they figured out what was wrong. I ended up spending an hour and a half digging a grave for him by the light of my headlights in 27F weather.

Wednesday, the autoclave died at work, with a huge load of media in it. Now I have to re-make all of it.

Yesterday morning my car was acting a little funny. The steerning wheel seemed to be shaking a little, but I recently switched over to studded snow tires, so it runs pretty rough anyway. I chalked it up to my imagination. That is… until I left work last night, and noticed the car was pulling hard right, and the front passenger side corner looked awfully low. Sure enough, flat as a pancake. luckily, I was still near work, so I walked back and got a portable air tank and mostly filled it up before running out of air… in the dark… at 27F. I drove back to the loading dock, went in and recharged the tank, pressurized the tire, refilled the tank, and limped it to my local tire dealer. Luckily, he’s a great guy and this time of year he’s there late, as people don’t put their snow tires on until after the first snow storm (morons). I’d picked up a nail somewhere. An hour and a half later I was back on my way home.

This morning I’m driving to work the long way, as the road I live on has been closed for the last 2 weeks, as it moved about 100’ to the left in a rainstorm earlier this year, and they’re trying to make it two lanes again before winter really sets in. I’m driving along and a state cop pulls me over for speeding. I’m on a dirt road in BFE and there’s a state cop? WTF? They never come out there.

What’s next? I guess it could have been worse, but the week I decide to quit smoking? The good news is I’m still smoke free, and I havent strangled anyone (yet).

I am so sorry about your dog :frowning:

Looks like you picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue, too.

Wow. I think you’re going to make it. Congratulations!

I’m sorry about the dog.

I’m so sorry to hear about your dog.

Jeez, now I feel like a smoke.

SaharaTea beat me to it.

Sorry about your run of bad events. That sucks. At least if you made it through all of that without smoking then everything else should be a breeze!

It’s the devil, man. He’s just trying to break your will.

As soon as things even out, you’ll be able to think “I got through that week without smoking, so I can get through this.”

Thanks, I needed that!

Thanks for your support everyone. I’ll miss my little buddy, but in a way I’m glad he’s gone. Max was an 8 yo english bulldog, and had all the problems you would expect an old bulldog to have. The house has gotten too crowded and life had gotten too busy with a 2 1/2 yo and 2 month old kid, and Max was not getting enough attention. I was the only one trying to keep him trained, and my wife spent most of her day yelling at him for stealing food from the 2 1/2 year old, who has been taking out her jealousy over the new baby on the dog. He was too old and grumpy to put up with it much longer, and we’ve been trying to find someone willing to take him for months.

Sure seems quiet now, especially at night. Now I’ve got no competition for who can snore loudest or fart out the foulest odor.

I’m headed out on break in a few, I’ll smoke one for you.

Save me a trip to the store and burn one for me, too. Thanks.

Heh, can’t smoke that many that fast. How about one of my two lunchtime smokes be for you?

That works.

I am so sorry to hear of you string of bad luck.

Wow! Kudos to you for making it through anyway!

Sending supporting (and lucky) thoughts your way.
