You’re correct; I misinterpreted your opinion. However, considering the case of the most recent attempted bombing, Muslims who didn’t step on the Koran would have to be subjected to a strip-search. This is a violation of privacy.
The US didn’t exactly have good relations with the Barbary States before Franklin died; he never redacted his opinion. Our country even tried to negotiate with the Islamic states in 1785, sending Jefferson and Adams. We later went to war with those Muslims, because they demanded more than the US was willing to offer.
As a country, America did not exhibit prejudice towards Muslims until recently.
Stepping on the Koran would definitely be considered defacing it, especially for Muslims having to witness the event. Whether Muslim terrorists would see it that way is irrelevant, but you’re right: it probably would not stop them from doing what they see as necessary. So, you advocate discriminating against non-violent Muslims. That’s just great.
The other guy who answered it did so sarcastically. As to your point, I’d say that willingness to blow yourself up is more a sign of fanaticism than stupidity.

It would be fair, as any group saying that would then be searched, not JUST these folks, but for right now they seem the only ones doing stuff. No apologies necessary. I think that’s the tradition transliteration, and there’s no problem using it. Then someone decided Qur’an was a better or more accurate transliteration, which, okay that’s fine, except that it seems like no one can figure out where the apostrophe goes. I’ve seen it wrong in published work (including The Demon-Haunted World, where Carl Sagan and his editors got it wrong every single time). If you can’t figure out where the apostrophe - which is where it is for a reason - goes, just spell it Koran.

Krebs, thanks, that is more like it. Yeah, I’d consider that. But it would still be nice to just have the devout moslem as there are so many less to search through. If they do get told it is ok to step on it, then your suggestion is indeed a good fallback if needed. Anything to reduce the need to search people you know are not doing bombings is better than searching everyone.
Oh, and are not ALL searches pre-emptive? Not much good to search them after it goes off, right?

Besides the illegality and the general stupidity of this idea, it wouldn’t even WORK. Even if you could get all Muslims to step on the Qur’an to prove whatever, terrorists aren’t so dumb that they can’t figure out a workaround. (This kind of shit is why I always had so much trouble with airport security in Israel. I’m blonde and blue-eyed. It was only when my language skills were good enough that I could be interrogated in Hebrew that they stopped being so suspicious of me.)

What do I think about Christian beliefs? Well that do unto others as you want done unto you is just one hell of a lot better than jihad, forced slavery for women, child marriages, women not allowed to drive or attend school and on and on.
Oh, and there is nothing about it that weakens my argument either. If I was in a country my kind of people were at war with, yes I would expect to be watched closely and searched if not treated a lot worse than that, in fact I would expect to be asked to leave, fast.

Kyla, yes they would find a work around, I said earlier this would only work for a while till we got better explosive detectors, I agree it is just something to do today that would reduce searching everyone. As stated above, we could go to wider profiling once these mullah idiots put out that this is ok, but you may find it would not be that fast, this foot thing is pretty ingrown in them all.
