THQ Humble Bundle (PC Games sale)

Pay what you want for a collection of great games by THQ including:

  • Metro 2033
  • Darksiders
  • Red Faction: Armageddon
  • Company of Heroes
  • CoH: Opposing Fronts
  • CoH: Tales of Valor

Pay over the average (currently $5.18) to also receive Saints Row the Third

All games require Steam. You receive a single Steam key for the bundle and a separate key for Saints Row.

Hmm… usually I find out about these through email, guess they haven’t sent it yet. Finally a pack where I don’t have most of them. I think I have a copy of CoH that I got for free somewhere, but other than that… now to find the time to play games…

Is it better to play the other Saints Rows first (as an aside, WTH is the construction “The Third”?)?

I’ve never heard anyone speak of the first game and opinion on the second is split on whether or not it’s better than the Third (although the second is universally considered to be a terrible PC port). I only ever played the Third and while there’s a few plot callbacks, they won’t stop you from tearing across town on a nitro-boosted stolen golf cart, firing rocket launchers at the police and rival gangs :stuck_out_tongue:

Using that 1 key, can I just download and install one game, then?

The bundle key will add all six games to your Steam library. You can decide for yourself which ones you want to actively install on to your computer. You can’t “break up” the bundle though and give someone Metro 2033 while keeping Darksiders. Although, for a buck, tell 'em to get their own key if they want Darksiders

If you pay over the average you’ll get a separate key for SRTT.

Yeah, they’re greyed out when you put in the key, and take no or very minimal HD space at that point. Unfortunately, if you already own a game, it will not convert the key to a gift. I’ve bought Braid like 3 times now.

Traditionally, Humble Bundle has added extra games later that you get as well. So you might wind up with a free copy of Homefront or Nexiuz or something down the line.

If you buy now, you’ll get the bonus games if/when they’re added. If you wait for them to be added, you’ll have to beat the average to get them.

This is one of the best deals I’ve ever seen. All of these games are excellent (except Red Faction).

They did it twice no less. First round they added Titan Quest and DLC for Red Faction. Today they added Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War.

Are they going out of business or something? Even comparing to Steam sales, this deal is insane! I now kinda feel bad for only pitching in $10, even though I only really wanted Saints Row the 3rd.

THQ’s in really, really bad shape financially. This bundle has helped; their stock jumped something like 40% since it started, but this could easily be the last hurrah from the company.

Agreed with Chipacabra, THQ is in really bad shape, but I think they’re going to hold on for a little while. If nothing else because they’ve got a lot of assets they can sell off to stay in business.

That was Midway’s problem back in the day, the only asset they had that was worth anything was Mortal Kombat. Everything else was so deprecated from years of crapware (or downright neglect) that they ended up having to give the company away to Warner Bros.

The sale could also potentially boost sales of Metro: Last Light and Company of Heroes 2 (both out in March, supposedly) by increasing exposure to the earlier games in the series. The South Park game is also supposed to be out in March. So I think it’s fair to say that that month will likely decide the fate of the company. I believe the only other game they have in the pipeline is Saints Row 4, which seems to be a fairly desperate cash grab.

I’m not sure if I’m going to pick up the bundle. The only game in it I don’t already own is Red Faction: Armageddon, and I’ve heard nothing good about it.

Metro: Last Light and Company of Heroes 2 are both definitely supposed to be out in March. South Park: The Stick of Truth will be released in the Spring or early Summer. Saints Row is THQ’s marquee franchise, so calling Saints Row 4 a cash grab is a bit odd.

They’ve also got Homefront 2 and at least one WWE game set for 2013 as well four unannounced projects for 2014 and beyond.

Yeah, no sense in you buying the bundle since you’ve been supporting the company well before their woes. The rest of us, well, we’re just opportunistic scavengers.

I spent 15 dollars, 10 to THQ (think how much enjoyment DoW has given me), 4 dollars to the Red Cross, and 1 dollar to Humble Bundle… I am not quite sure about their costs as it is downloaded via steam.

I hope this keeps THQ alive, the gaming industry is running out of good developers.

I picked it up. One of my main interests in the bundle is the Tales of Valor expansion, just for the additional campaigns. Doesn’t work. Bummer.

THQ’s stock has rebounded a bit.

I don’t think it hurts them at all to sell these, as it seems to be nearly impossible to find out about them in time. You even posted it here, yet I never saw this thread appear on top until today. You know, after it’s over.

The only way to find out about it is to sign up to be spammed about a bunch of other crap–they even admit they’ll send you a newsletter–you know, those things that are completely pointless ever since you got the ability to surf the web.

In one breath you say you had no idea this was happening despite the mentions of it here and in the next say that an e-mailed notification would be pointless since you can just surf the web? Hrm.

I’ve never had Humble Bundle “spam” me with anything but notifications of new bundles or when games are added to existing bundles. To each their own though. This latest bundle sold over 885,000 copies though so I guess someone, somewhere heard about it.

Not to mention the fact it was a top story on a ton of game-related websites. People are fond of THQ and don’t want them to fail, so a story like is something game journalists try to write about.
