Threads do not die because of a particularly inane post. They die because nobody has anything more to add. Those of you who believe that you have actually delivered the final word on a subject are deluding yourselves. The only thing you have done is post a comment that nobody thought advanced the topic, and thus, nobody responded to it.
This happens to me quite often. And it isn’t necessarily the end of the thread, either. My post just goes unnoticed and/or unremarked upon, and any further posts do not address what I have written. To be sure, my posts are generally bad puns and smartass comments in Great Debates or BBQ Pit threads, so I don’t have much justification for self-pity.
Nor does anyone else, of course, and this thread has been a veritible potpourri of ostentatious self-pity, grandiose boasting, and really awful limericks. I can’t see much point in reading any further in it, myself.

BTW, I had a thread killing tactic up my sleeve, and I still have it, but I’ve decided against using it. It just seems too low. I think I would prefer to see the thread live on.
