Thread topics you never want to see again

Really? Because I usually enjoy those. Oh, not the really inane ones. But it’s fun to watch someone who thinks they’re reeeealy clever get their ass handed to them.

Can I kick it old school (internet in general, not solely SDMB)?

Do Balrogs have wings?
Were Sam and Frodo gay?
Did Brawn survive in Transformers: The Movie?
Who wins: Star Destroyer vs Enterprise? (include the AOTC cross-sections book)
Who wins: Worst NFL team vs college national champion?

Any Pit threads which call out one of our resident trolls for extra attention, especially when a dozen previous ones already exist and the poster under the microscope has been completely and consistently unapologetic and hasn’t changed his spots by even one little smudge. All these threads do is just give them more of what they crave, and often will balloon in 1,000+ post monstronsities, exercises in complete and utter futility-I honestly don’t know what people expect to accomplish when they write up those kinds of OP’s. “Oh yes, I admit it! I’ve been fucking with everyone here for years!”

I couldn’t agree with this post more. From my very first day here at the Dope I was puzzled by this phenomenon (via a Commissar Pit thread) and this puzzlement hasn’t been alleviated after being here several months. The best I can come up with is that people just enjoy posting vitriolic jabs at others under the cloak of anonymity of the internet; regardless of the validity or utility of such posts (or threads).
