OK, this isn’t a question about a specific thread, even if it is prompted by the two or three threads recently closed in GQ.
Are the posters of those threads, which disappear, notified at all? Does a mod send them an e-mail and explain why they have been banned and their threads eliminated? Or are they left to their own devices to figure out why?
Just curious about the procedure, that’s all.
I’ve posted in a few disappeared threads and never got any sort of email or announcement. It was very confusing at first
I was not the OP of said threads though.
In Soviet Russia, the threads would remain but* you *would disappear.
I don’t send a banned poster a direct message when banning them. However, the banning function provides a “reason to show poster” to be filled in (e.g. trolling, spam, multiple rules violations). The poster will be shown this message if they try to log in or post.
Why should I bother posting snark if it’s just going to vanish?
If I’m removing a thread by a poster who isn’t being banned, I’ll notify the poster. But that kind of thing is frequently done after discussion with the poster anyway. If the poster is being banned for socking or trolling, I don’t think the explanation is needed.
I posted a really snarky response to that, but it seems to have vanished.
OK, I meant the OP.
This would be for people who haven’t been around long enough to rate a notice being posted in ATMB.
