Threatening to leave? Mods/Admin-can we get a ruling on this?

If you don’t have them on ignore when they leave, make sure to do it when they come back.

Ignore button. There for a reason.

Um, we’re not supposed to talk about the “ignore” button.

And FWIW, I don’t believe in using it, as I wouldn’t like to only get one side of a conversation. Plus, since we’re here to fight ignorance, I’d rather tackle it head on.

You’re not supposed to talk about who’s *on[i/] your list. You can suggest it, as long as you don’t mention names.

Is there a way of finding out who’s got you on their ignore list?

I do not believe so, I’ve never encountered a MB where you could.
Unless you told them, which would be a vioalation of our rule here.

I got yer spring fever right here. Two days ago I was in the garage happily grinding away in a t-shirt (well, yeah, and jeans). The ground was clear, even the puddles had evaporated.

Today, there are 15 inches of snow on my barbecue, and I had to buy a tocque at the dollar store to make it home from the mall a block away from my house. The wind’s died down, but it’s STILL FUCKING SNOWING! I’m fully prepared to claim “Environment Syndrome” if I go into a berserker rage and rip the head off of somebody who looks at me wrong.

That said, I think the Powers That Be have a pretty good idea of when somebody needs to be given that last little push that results in them finally leaving no matter how many times they’ve threatened to do so beforehand. I don’t like seeing somebody put in prison (hypothetical here) for stealing a donut or something from a convenience store because they had a knife in their pocket and that makes it armed robbery and twenty years ago they were an active criminal and this makes it their “Third Strike” felony, and I would hate to have the judicial discretion of the Administrators of this board fettered in the same way.

Sometimes valid personal opinions make bad public policy. I could be the poster child for that. I think this might be such a case.

Hell, I don’t even know where it is.

[sub]Don’t tell me. There are some kinds of ignorance I can really live with;)[/sub]

Ugh ! I’d hate for this to become a rule.

The last thing we need are more rules.

If someone throws a tantrum every couple of months, does the “I’m leaving” thing, then comes back, rinse, repeat, etc… well, a lot of people are going to start ignoring the person when they say they’re leaving, or taunt them. Either way, if you act like a two year old throwing a tanty, you’ll get treated like one by most posters here who bother to respond.

I like the “don’t be a jerk” rule, though after reading a Pit thread today, I wonder how some people still have posting privileges. I don’t think more and more rules are needed, especially not for people’s pet peeves. YMMV.

I suppose if everybody were to chime in with “Oh, I thought you were leaving”, it might be interesting (although this might not be appropriate outside of the pit).

What flouncers really want is for a shocked chorus to exclaim “Oh, pleeeeease don’t leave, we really neeeeeed you”.

Probably everyone wants attention from time to time. But there are healthy grown up ways of dealing with frustration (like me, for example:D) and there are childish ways. Maybe if those who are a little on the jerkish side keep coming back, someday they will learn how ignorant their behavior is and change it.

Meanwhile, I will continue to have day dreams in which I can vaporize them.

WTF?, an ignore button? Where?! (looking at the keyboard in confusion)

Actually, it’s on the front of your computer. You’ll notice a button or switch that’s either marked “1 0”, with a circle with a vertical line through the top, or “Power.” Push or throw that button or switch (on newer computers you may need to hold it in for about 10 seconds). Your monitor should then go blank and you’ll be able to ignore everybody.

I’m more partial to “Nah nah naaah naaaahhhhh, hey heyyyyy…”

psst, whuckfistle, it’s on your User CP, under Edit Ignore List

don’t say I told you

Well, that explains the response I get, I must be on everyone’s ignore list…

I think Guadere gave you her answer, Guin. Yep, if the Admin/Mods get sick of it, they will ban said user and said user may petition to be unbanned. And the Admin/Mods feel no obligation to let them come back, but may. Apparently they haven’t gotten sick enough of your favorite poster’s tantrums and/or self-martyrdom.

I personally think at any given time this board benefits from one raving loony Christian, on raving loony Liberal, one raving loony Conservative and one raving loony Atheist - plus at least one raving loony Other (Feminist, Gay man, Sex Fetishist, PETA member, whatever). Makes the rest of us look darn middle of the road.

Oh I’m fine with her answer. That’s fine. I was just asking.

However, I still find it stupid and childish behavior, that’s all.

His4ever has all of the maturity of a four year old on a sugar high.

Meh. Doesn’t really bug me that much. The meltdowns are good entertainment value. I like knowing that certain posters will be guaranteed value for my time.

Think of how much sooner we would have lost the group The Who if we actually made their farewell tours be farewell tours.

The Who Farewell Tour

The Who Real Farewell Tour

The Who Gotcha Ya This Time For Real Farewell Tour

The Who Boy Who Cried Wolf Tour

The Who Aren’t You Listening We Said We’re Leaving Tour

Ignorance is in the eye of the beholder, dear lady. You’re opinion on ignorance isn’t the only one that counts now, is it?

Hmmm, ditto to you also. Plenty of stupid childish behavior here and it’s not all coming from me either, it it? Sheeeeesh…

I must really object to this statement. There is no good clinical evidence that sugar ingestion induces any sort of hyperactive behavior in children, adolescents, or adults. There are lots of studies which show the opposite, that sugar does not cause hyperactivity.

And H4E, repeatedly stating that one is leaving to never return, then returning, is a time-tested way to destroy one’s own credibility.

Reminds me of the Final Fantasy games - Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII - How can you have Final Fantasy VIII? You’d think the Japanese don’t know what the word “final” means.
