Anyone have any links to examples of people doing this BESIDES His4Ever? I mean, if it’s one person rather than “quite a few,” it’s not exactly a pressing problem.
When’s my turn to be a Raving Loony something? It looks like fun.
You people really pissed me off. I can’t take it any more. . . .
Sometimes the leaving in a huff is quite helpfull. You don’t wanna stay, we don’t want you to stay— let’s make it easy all the way around.
But using this pretext to get rid of posters you don’t like is just plain old wrong.
Kat, pick something, you can be a Raving Loony about anything…
How about you try “Raving Loony Fan of Engerbert Humperdink.”
[sub]wait, that sounds familiar[/sub]
How about “Raving Loony Against Circumscision”
[sub]taken[/sub]
Hummmm, maybe takes more creativity than I though.
Hey, welcome back.
(I’m such a kidder)
She’s just the latest. King Nifty not only came back but came back as several socks. I wouldn’t be surprised if one or more of his socks are still here waiting to be discovered. There’s also MachineHead - he said he would leave, came back, then Lynn forced him to take a break. I’m sure there’s more but I can’t think of any at the moment.
I’m not trying to get rid of her. I just want her to quit doing it. You’re right, I probably shouldn’t have asked the mods, but to me it’s very manipulative.
BWAHAHAHAHA!!! OH my sides. Thanks, QtM! I needed a laugh. I’m sick, and have been for the past few days, and I think it’s only going to get worse. Only a cold, so it’s nothing death-inducing, but still not fun.
Hey H4e, you know how you keep saying you’re leaving but then you load a thread and you just can’t keep your mouth shut? Here’s an easy solution, and one I’ve employed to make sure I don’t post at the Pizza Parlor or TMF:
I don’t load the fecking pages. Hell, I don’t even remember where the PP is.
[sub]His4ever having credibility … oh, my sides. Oh man. :D[/sub]
Amen! I find these amusing and entertaining. I like to see a good meltdown every now and again.
Guinastasia: Well… It’s only manipulative if you let it be. To me, this sort of person is a “kissing cousin” with a troll: they live for the REACTION.
When I’ve seen indignant departures, they’re often followed by a string of responses along the lines of “Oh, diddums get ums feewings hurt?” and “Fine, take your football and leave – we’re better off without you anyway” and “Oh, can’t take the heat, huh? Fine, get out of the kitchen.”
All of which, IMHO, simply validate the indignant departure (you KNOW they stick around long enough to see the responses, don’t you), and (in their minds) this reinforces their “anyone who doesn’t agree with the pervasive (liberal, pro-life, pro-gay, insert what you will) mentality here is insulted and unfairly beaten upon” mentality.
Hijack: And let’s be honest since this IS the Pit: reinforcing that attitude is all the worse because maybe possibly there’s some truth to it (ducking). Genuwine idiots like H4E aside, some viewpoints which are pretty prevalent in this world truly are not accepted here, regardless of how rationally and politely they are stated…(e.g. there’s a LOT of fundie Christians out there who think most of us are immoral sinners headed for hell)
But even WERE it true, it doesn’t excuse the behavior. So I say deal with them JUST LIKE A TROLL. Ignore, ignore, ignore… Whether you ignore mechanistically, or just by taking their posts with a large grain of salt… Up to you
The Pro-life mentality here is pervasive? That’s news to this doper of almost 3 years…
Begone, before somebody drops a house on you!!
iampunha – upon re-reading, perhaps I’m guilty of some lack of clarity. There’s a -reason- that bit was within quotes: I was merely indicating the usual gripe(s) of the indignant departers, not indicating I ascribed reality or validity to them.
More specifically, by including various stances from various parts of the spectrum, I was trying to imply that their reasons for indignation tend to be all over the map. Yet another indication that MOST of the time, their feeling of persecution is largely based in paranoia.
My point is simply that 99% of the time, the person leaving in a huff simply has a predisposition to feel persecuted – or at least a predisposition for over-dramatic temper tantrums. The position they hold for which they feel they’re being persecuted is essentially a non-issue. In either case, I’ll stick my my primary premise, which is that the REACTION they get is what they’re craving: “Pay attention to me! React to me! Even if it’s DFTT” (rhyme unintentional).
Freyr:
You’d think dropping the house on her sister woulda clued her in, no?
Avoid pails of water, H4E…
In my view, there is a difference between people displaying jerkish behaviour and people who are naturally jerks.
The former get banned quickly, sure, because what they are doing is deliberate and conscious. They’re trolls.
Then there are people who in real life are some form of jerk, at least in the perspective of the “mainstream.” Either jerk by birth, or jerk by training.
The issue as I see it with people like His4Ever is that she is not deliberately trying to be jerkish, but her interpretation of religion - the way she follows her faith - makes her naturally a jerk in the opinion of everyone outside the people of her faith that act likewise. She comes back not because she’s trying to piss people off, to deliberately be jerkish, but because she - and her ilk - believe they are on some God-given mission to continue a presence here. If you like, they are missionaries, and we are unenlightened savages (in their opinion).
To their perspective, being banned would just be another example of the daily persecution they will face as christians. It would be vindication in their view that we’re all ruled by Satan. If they discuss the treatment they’re getting on here with their preacher, the advice will probably be: “Persist! Don’t give up, be tenacious! It’s your duty to show them [us] the light.” We see that they are essentially brainwashed, and as a result bigoted over many issues, but they believe they are righteous.
It’s an impasse, and I cannot see how it can be resolved.
At another forum I post on, threatening to leave/making a “I’m leaving!” thread is grounds for banning. The way they figure it, it’s not like the person will need the account anymore!
istara, I think you hit the nail right on the head. Look, I was one of the first people to Pit His4Ever, and I still believe that Pitting was completely justified. I admit I do get completely fed up with her at times. On the other hand, I really don’t think she’s trying to be a jerk, and she would like to be liked around here and maybe even fit in. She just doesn’t have a clue how to do it without compromising her beliefs. Since that pretty much sums up exactly where I was in high school, so you’d better believe I sympathize!
His4Ever, if there’s even a chance you’ll read this, please, give some thought to what I’m about to type. Recently, you haven’t just defended your faith. You’ve defended those who have been callously and deliberately cruel. I’m thinking especially of Dr. Chuckie. There’s a thread in MPSIMS started by Copper Moon asking if there are any Christians on the board. I was surprised at just how many there are. Also, a lot of the people in this thread are Christians who are as strong and ardent in their faith as you are, even though we don’t agree with you on all things. Christ spoke of joy and feasting many times, breaking bread with tax collectors and other sinners, yet you’re objecting to us sinners. Can I give you just a couple of verses to consider? The first one is particularly appropriate, at least with regard to the timing, since we’re coming up to Palm Sunday.
One more, one which I think I’ve heard you quote a time or two:
I know you’re trying to do good, to do what God commands you to do, but it’s kind of like me trying to paint. I may be trying to convey a beautiful sunset, and I might have the vision of that sunset in my mind in all its glorious color. Unfortunately what I’ve got on paper is a collection of blobs, and not even pretty ones! When you flounce out of here, and it is flouncing, all we’re hearing is that we’re contemptuous types who are beneath you, and, speaking solely for myself, I don’t like dealing with people who think I’m beneath them – it’s too difficult to see eye-to-eye.
Peace be with you, and please, try to see where we’re coming from. We don’t want to dislike you, but, unlike the Saviour Guinastasia, Iampunha, and others whose names I didn’t make a note of, worship, we’re rather fallible humans.
CJ
Thanks, CJ, for your candid observations but no matter what, my opinions and beliefs are considered to be nothing but fecal matter around here since I can’t prove everything to everyone’s satisfaction. They think that means I’m supposed to change my mind. Nope. They think the’ve won all the arguments. As someone said, winning arguments and debates doesn’t make you right.
You quote great scriptures but those arent’ the only ones there are. I wont’ get into all that since we disagree on a lot of things. And by the way, I don’t consider myself to be some high and mighty infallable being, but I am firm in what I believe. Why should I change that because of some debate on a message board? Or to make everyone like me? I’m not going to lie in order to be popular.
You say some Christians are cruel? Well, so are some of the people here. How many names have I been called here? Most Christians are just trying to share the truth and when they won’t back down on certain issues, then the name calling and pitting begins. We should all be able to give our views and just agree to disagree. Why in the world am I bothering to answer your post? I sure don’t know. It’ll just be more fodder for everyone to rip into.
You only pretend to speak for that being.
What are you here for His4ever? On this message board, I mean.
I ask that question not in any judgemental way, but simply to ask why you read what’s here, and why you post here?
