Opened my FB page this morning and noted that there was a PM waiting. It was from some guy I’ve never heard of, who I’m guessing took exception to something I said in response to his comment in a political post. His message was something along the lines of “Old man, you can’t hide forever behind the anonymity of Facebook.” I take that as a threat.
Unfortunately, I deleted the message without reporting it. Is there any way to recover that and still report it to whomever one reports these things to?
I’m not a Facebook user, but is there a “deleted items” folder, or something similar, in where you check your PMs? If so, you should be able to move it back to your inbox and maybe find a “report” link of sorts.
Assuming you’re in the browser version, when you look at your messages, click the link to Wiew in Messenger. Then in the upper left, click the gear icon and select Archived Messages. You might be able to recover it from here, depending on what archive versus delete means to Facebook.
But my vote would be to let it go. Internet blowhards are a dime a dozen. Take satisfaction in that you obviously got under his skin.
There is virtually nothing that can happen on Facebook that Facebook doesn’t have systems in place to deal with - they have lots of information covering everything.
But since when is Facebook anonymous? Do you not have your name and location on there? Does he? If he’s far away from you, then just block him and forget it. If he’s in the same city, then yeah, maaaaybe see if you can recover the message. But I guarantee you Facebook is too big these days to get back to you in a timely manner.
