Interesting! Why would they do that then, if they didn’t want the connection?
Rhetorical question, forget I asked.

The real answer is that was their name in the comic books, the in world answer is a tiny spoiler. Just got back from this, great fun movie. Sadly it was me my brother and three other people in the theater.
You do!
You’re referencing General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, long-time Hulk adversary and father to Bruce Banner’s love interest Betty Ross. He later became the Red Hulk (as we see in the most recent Captain America film).
But the Thunderbolts in the comics were unrelated to that character. The origin of the name comes from the 1620 stage play, Swetnam the Woman-Hater. There was a pair of lines in that play that read like this (transcribed to modern English):
Justice, like lighting, ever should appear
To few men ruin, but to all men fear
That is actually quoted by the leader of the Thunderbolts in the first issue of their eponymous comic book series as the inspiration for the name of the team.
Just to confuse matters, in the comics the Red Hulk (“Thunderbolt” Ross himself) was a member of the team, but again he had nothing to do with the team’s origin and the name was a coincidence (aside from possibly someone at Marvel saying it would be funny if a guy named “Thunderbolt” was in the Thunderbolts).
I don’t know why the team gets that name in the movie because I haven’t seen the film yet, and this team has practically nothing in common with the original comic book version aside from the name of the group.
Baron Zemo, who is actually a GREAT character in the MCU and I would have loved to have in this. Movie was really good either way though.
Yeah, I’m accepting the fact that this is just a totally different group and giving it a chance. I like most of the characters in this for the most part (especially Yelena, and if you want to know why just watch this video below).
Oh I just got back from watching the movie, Yelena is definitely the stand out.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I’m pretty sure I could’ve reached the same conclusion.
I saw it today. I liked it. Won’t post any spoilers but it was much better than Brave New World.
We’re fixing to watch it right now. I’d heard good things, so I’m looking forward to it.
That was a lot of fun.
I didn’t think it was the best post-Endgame MCU/adjacent product, but I had a great time in the theater. We got a trailer (I assume everybody did) for FF and I might have some interest in that. I didn’t really love the other FF movies and don’t think they aged well. I’ve avoided most of the “sneak peek” stuff so it was all new for me.
Not sure if this would count as a spoiler because everyone expected but I knew for sure the final post credits scene would have the Fantastic Four because I noticed “Fantastic Four Theme” listed in the Music credits.
Also I think now we know t.he structure at least of Avengers Doomsday We will start with two competing Avengers teams at odds with each other that will eventually have to get their shit together and work with each other
I was a little disappointed by Valentina’s characterization. In the comics, she was embedded for years by SHIELD as Madame Hydra, she knows where ALL the bodies are buried, definitely a woman with substance and edge. Julia Louis-Dreyfus plays her as an extended VEEP gag. A wasted opportunity, and not the only one in this film.
When she was first introduced I thought she was meant to me more like Nick Fury except calling less about the Heroes under her charge. She turned out more villainous than I expected at first. Not a bad thing just an observation.
Something I thought was fun (of that’s the right word), was how in true Suicide Squad form, a character who was marketed as a member of the team gets killed early on. If a character had to go that was probably the right one. People barely remember her and her “power” is weird and hard to show on screen
I think they were going for an Avengers of the Galaxy vibe.
Interesting development. Disney is changing billboards and standees to retitle the movie to The New Avengers*. I am sure this semi tongue in cheek.
It’s technically a spoiler, but I guess they figured after opening weekend it wouldn’t be much of a secret any more.
Why not? There are already two Hawkeyes and two Spider-men.
