So it looks like the MCU is going to have its own Suicide Squad. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
In my opinion, a bad thing. I’m not going to watch it.
But them the MCU lost me several movies back. So maybe I’m not even close to the target audience.
In the big picture, I hate movies where the bad guys are the good guys. Sounds like, if I may, trump’s America.
I’ll probably watch it. At least this one is the payoff to previous movies and tv series rather than another work that only exists to set up characters for future movies.
I suspect there will be a Scarlett Johansson cameo flashback. She’s getting an executive producer credit, which says she has some involvement in the movie. And it’s not like she owns the rights or will be writing the script.
I plan to watch it, I’m curious what some of the characters are up to, and it seems to tie into Captain America 4 (which looks to be going for a Winter Soldier vibe).
As an actual comic book fan this movie trailer bothers me. I get the sense that I’m supposed to know who these characters are. I recognize Red Star, Winter Solider and Ghost but who are the others? Who is this movie aimed at?
These are all characters from previous MCU movies and tv series.
Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Red Guardian ( David Harbour), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) were in Black Widow.
Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) was in the Captain America and Avengers movies.
Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) was in Ant-Man and the Wasp.
U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell) was in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) was in Black Widow and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
The only new character is Bob aka the Sentry (Lewis Pullman).
All of the existing characters, except Valentina, were portrayed as people who were working for the bad guys but had been manipulated into doing so.
I don’t think Red Guardian was manipulated, though he was betrayed eventually.
She was also in a post-credit stinger in the Falcon/WinterSoldier series.
I’m watching, Florence Pugh being a big reason.
Exactly my thoughts as I was reading this thread. Maybe not immediately (I lag a lot on TV/movies), but eventually. Pugh is almost always entertaining all on her own.
I’m going to watch it.
I am a bit annoyed at them squandering the fantastic premise of the original Thunderbolts–but the MCU doesnt have a ton of iconic surviving and available villains.
As it is…it’s really just “The F***ed Up Avengers”
Which is what i like about it.
Which has the potential to be entertaining, if not “meaningful” - even in comic book terms. I’ll watch.
Movie comes out this week and I’m excited for it. Review embargo has lifted and is getting solid praise.
*Maybe we’ll learn what the * finally means
I just took it from the trailer to mean no characters want that name, but they’re stuck with it.
I think there is a poster that indicates:
*Avengers not available
Like this is the team you put together when the main team is unavailable.
Isn’t the eponymous Thunderbolt mostly a bad guy? He hunted the hulk, became a trump-like president, and turned into red hulk. I guess…truth in advertising?
The name is unrelated I believe.
