Thundercats Mafia Gameplay Thread [Game Over]

Yes, a game where peeker claimed to be A Doc. Truthfully, as it turned out.(Screamers).

@Astral, I would only think Giraffe were Scum if one of the people I was tied with were Scum. I can see it as a protective vote. If they turn out to be Town, then he probably is as well.

@Jimmy

As the Day progressed, I saw not much going on. I decided to post oddly. My hopes were to either:

  1. Start some conversation
  2. Make Scum think I was trying to communicate something secretly, thereby making me a NK target.

As it became more possible that I could be lynched (a scenario I thought was possible because this board does like to lynch the loud and lynch the people you don’t understand), I claimed honestly.

Anything else you don’t understand?

Well, the same thing as originally - I don’t get how that was going to start any conversations. Giraffe asked you directly about what you were trying to do and you didn’t even answer him.

I will point out that since the scum can’t day-talk, ed’s saying

is either an indication that he isn’t scum and didn’t know that, or an attempt at pretending that he didn’t know that.

How does his claim get us any closer to lynching scum? The only person who knows if he’s telling the truth is Ed and the scum.

The timing of his claim makes a lot more sense coming from a scum player than a Town player. A Town Vanilla in a three-way tie has no urgency to reveal his role: if people don’t believe he is Town, they’re not going to believe his claim anyway. So you argue that you’re Town as best you can, without handing the scum free information. Don’t forget that a three way tie is easy to manipulate – if he’s telling the truth, the scum simply have to shift one vote and now they have a confirmed Vanilla they can snuggle up with while they have an easier time picking off the masons and powers.

Scum would have far greater incentive to make a Vanilla claim when Ed did. If he waits too long, it looks like scum trying to wriggle out of the noose. Whereas he has a good chance of getting quasi-confirmed, if people believe a scum wouldn’t gamble on claiming a named role with so many players left.

So, you seem pretty strongly convinced that Mahaloth is scum, yet you put a one-off vote on me instead of him? Why wouldn’t you vote for the player you think is scum who has a better chance of actually getting lynched?

You go on to say you know voting for me won’t have any effect and give your approval to lynching Ed: why not just lay out your case for my scumminess, but then place a vote that actually contributes in the lynch decision?

Fair point. If it helps, your mentioning the proboards was just what caught my attention – I don’t think it’s a strong scum tell.

Ah, I see what you were saying now. I originally read your statement as saying you’d have mentioned it here. Which seemed a little strange, even for you.

I don’t see Tygra as being identified as Vanilla, just as another possible Thundercat in the game.

And take my wariness of you as a sign of respect: you’re one of the few players I think absolutely would phrase a Vanilla claim like that, and then later come back and say “no, I have a one-shot Watcher power and it shows that the claimed Cop lied when he said he investigated Giraffe.” Remember Dr. Seuss?

As I’ve said in my last post, it’s clearly a strategy that helps scum far more than it helps Town. If the vote were 6-4 with a few hours to go, claim away. But at 3-3-3, you’re either handing the scum free information and a chance to sway the lynch toward a power player / mason or you’re scum trying to save yourself.

I think you’re too good a player to be doing the former, so my money is on the latter.

Leaning Town on Jimmy - as I mentioned before I don’t remember the main instigator of any of the previous “X must be lynched because his annoying/distracting play is anti-Town” flare-ups actually being scum.

Maha’s vote on Jimmy seems (ironically) like an easy vote. Defending the unpopular kid is great fun as scum; lets you be all virtuous and claim vindication when the unpopular kid eventually flips Town despite your best efforts.

If when asked directly what I was doing, I staed that I was trying to start discussion and/or draw a night Kill, that would sort of defeat the purpose, no?

I only did so now to explain myself and get all of the information out there in case I am lynched

I find Giraffe’s case against Ed pretty bizarre. I also find it extremely unlikely that there are Town powers unmentioned in the setup thread.

Further on Ed, though: with one unique vanilla already dead, there’s not likely to be more than one out of three left in the game, IMO; two at the outside. One in three is not bad odds for a scum under pressure to take.

Wasn’t the a basis of your vote for me?

That and the fact that I claimed when I was tied for the lynch lead.

Also, note the underlined paragraph. To me, it almost looks like you’re saying, “In case I switched to lynch a Townie, don’t hold it against me…”

Is that what you meant?

No. Here’s what went down:

  1. You claimed Tygra but didn’t explicitly say you were Vanilla, instead choosing to phrase it as having “no special import in the game”.

  2. I found that slippery, wondering if you were scum leaving yourself wiggle room to later claim a weak power of some sort.

  3. You respond to this by saying that Tygra is defined as a Vanilla role.

  4. I point out that Tygra is not actually defined as Vanilla, but merely listed as another possible Thundercat who may be in the game. I only point this out to correct your assertion that it is Vanilla by definition. If it was Vanilla by definition, then you’d have a good counterargument against my assertion that your claim was oddly coy.

The basis of my vote for you is a sum of several small things: acting weird earlier (which feels more like breadcrumbs for a future scum claim than Vanilla Town behavior) and both the coy phrasing and the pro-scum timing of your Tygra claim.

So far I’m tied on you and Mahaloth. I’d be happy to see either of you get lynched. At the time of my vote, Mahaloth only had one vote, so another vote for him wouldn’t have done anything else. Instead, I mentioned that I’m okay with him getting lynched, and also voted you. At the end of the day, the final voting record will record that both Mahaloth and you were suspicious enough to someone to warrant a vote.

Ed, I’m not sure about. He could be scum, he could not be. I don’t have a good feel one way or the other. I do feel he’s acted somewhat scummier than Jimmy, so I feel town would benefit most from an Ed lynch instead of a Jimmy lynch. So, while I support his lynch over Jimmy, I’d prefer you or Mahaloth over him. I want the record to show who I find scummiest, not who was most convenient for me to place my vote on.

My willingness to switch my vote to Ed if need be is perfectly convenient with the logic I just outlined above. Do you have any other objections to my vote?

“Convenient” should have been “consistent” in the last paragraph of my above post.

Current vote tallies (with voter(s), in chronological order):

**Jimmy Chitwood: 3 (Mahaloth, Normal Phase, Inner Stickler)
special ed: 3 (Pleonast, Hirka T’Bawa, Giraffe) **

Pleonast: 2 (Jimmy Chitwood, special ed)
Giraffe: 1 (Astral Rejection)
Votes will be final when Day Two ends tomorrow on Saturday, 4/30 at 11am CST.

  12. Inner Stickler - Jimmy Chitwood (240)

Well, I guess I’m still on the block.

Here’s how I stand at present - I more or less have the same preferences as Astral, although 1. I get amazingly strong pro-town vibes from myself, and 2. I think I lean slightly more toward Giraffe than Mahaloth, but only slightly – that because Giraffe seems to keep pushing on increasingly diminishing returns, and that kind of doggedness doesn’t seem merited by the actual case. I really don’t like Mahaloth’s apathetic, low-density play, same as I said earlier in the day, and I’ll vote him for that for now because it’ll at least bring him into the tie and provide the opportunity for those of us who aren’t sure about the motivations behind the ed vote to consolidate on an alternative.

I don’t want to lynch ed, though I guess to save myself if it comes to it I’ll have to; I’ll have to try to check in late late tonight. It will be interesting to see what happens with those who haven’t participated yet.

Vote Mahaloth

Jimmy, you do realize that Pleo will not shift his vote to you for self-preservation voting, right? And it won’t be a scum tell. It’s what he does.

What? I haven’t been apathetic. I don’t even know what you mean by low-density.

What?

Great. A big tie vote total at the end of the Day. And we have one player that has not come in to vote.

Real nice, folks.

Well, now my hands are "tied’.

Seriously, though, I can not guarantee that I can be around at the end of the Day and I’ve been put in a position where extremely late votes(bad town play) has put me up for the lynch with little chance to check back in.

So, I’m claiming. Heck, it’s a small game and our numbers are not that high, so I hope this helps. If it is a bad move, I apologize.

Oh, and I now need to be protected at Night so I can survive.

I am Lion-O. I get to investigate each Night.

Night One- I investigated Tom(who I suspected on Day One). I was told that:

You’ll notice I never voted Tom on Day 2.

So, everyone, unvote me and don’t vote for Tom.

Oh, yeah, and Red, please come and play.
So, Pantho, or whomever our protector is, please protect me and so forth.
