So today here in good ole’ Tulsa OK we’re experiencing the rather cool phenomenon of “Thundersnow,” which means there’s major snowfall happening along with thunder and lightning. Very strange, and snow is very unusual for us this time of year.
I know there’s other crazy weather happening out there today…blizzards, floods, tornados…what’s happening in your neck of the woods?
Gee, we haven’t had thundersnow since the beginning of the month. Currently lots of plain old thunderrain(?). 3" in the last few days on already wet ground. Flood alert for a creek north of us. (There is a creek near us but it doesn’t get big. It’s “headwaters” are only just a couple blocks away. Consequence of living almost on top of the eastern divide.)
Yesterday the “official” high was 102. We were out in the car, and the thermometer said it was actually 109. I can’t believe the snow in Amarillo–we’re in the same state! Anybody that doesn’t realize how big Texas is–think about that!
All last week and most of the coming… fine, calm, maybe some high cloud. Mid 20’s during the day, dropping to low teens at night. Sunburned my head Friday as I forgot to wear my hat in the am. Classic autumn weather, I’m loving it! (well except for the red peeling nose)
I never saw thundersnow until I lived in Kalamazoo where they get it two or three times in the winter. After a night of thundersnow, the following day would be extremely foggy and you could barely see the ground, it was as if the college was transplanted into a cloud. I liked it.
