14 holes 4 pars. That is one erratic round.
Hank Haney said on the Jim Rome show earlier this week that it is a private joke in caddie lingo. Caddies joke all the time that his player won the tournament when they win and they say his player lost the tournament plays badly.
I think the caddie/player thing has been blown way out of proportion. Steve Williams was not a popular caddie among his peers while he was with TW. He ignored rules (such as removing his caddie bib prematurely) that the other caddies could not do. He has now been reprimanded since he went to Adam Scott. The fact is SW was not popular before being fired, and the events from the last few days has done nothing to change that.
Tiger made a birdie on his hole 14, but followed with another double bogey. T68th out of 78 players.
Man, I would LOVE it if he were miked through this round!
Not only is the guy I have my money on in the lead, but Tiger is blowing up. Life is good!
Are you following it on TV? I don’t have it here. Is he spraying tee shots? Is he putting badly?
It came on TV at 12 cdt. 42 minutes ago. I don’t think he hit too many fairways. (detailed Stats are sketchy at PGA.com). He bogeyed hole 9 to shoot 77 and will probably need a 67 or 68 to make the cut tomorrow. (very early guess). And he needs to finish this tournament to make the Tour Playoffs.
He could play Greensboro next week (but said he has family obligations). But since it looks like he has the weekend off, maybe he can trade custody weekends with Elin.
Rory McIlroy needs to pull out now. Right now. Before he does any more damage to his right wrist/forearm. He was foolish to try the shot with the ball next to a root. A huge root.
Tiger’s entire round was shown on the PGA.com web site (the marquee group coverage), and will be again tomorrow. I assume Rory’s entire round will also be shown tomorrow, before TV coverage begins.
