Tiger Woods is a fricking tool.

Anyone read that article in, I think it was the NYT magazine but I might be wrong.

  1. He doesn’t tip
  2. His own PR people try and keep him from interviews because he is a smartass
  3. He makes his own bed in hotels (not to be nice but because he’s anal)

Anyone who doesn’t tip is already in the lower decile but making your hotel bed takes you to the bottom.

Um…Phil?, is that you?

After working for one whole weekend, he became the S Chinese city of Shenzhen’s biggest taxpayer for the entire year…

So he can afford to tip, and doesn’t need to make his own bed. Maybe they cancel each other out to some extent. I wouldn’t know. I do tip, and don’t make my bed. But then, I can’t play golf.

There are weirder people around, I guess. What does Ozzie Osborne do?

Maybe I’m thick, but what exactly is so wrong with this? Yeah, it’s kinda anal, but it doesn’t really hurt anyone, as opposed to the no-tipping thing.

I, too, see no problem with making one’s own bed in a hotel. It pains me to say this but maybe the ubiquitous ‘Hi Opal!’ would have been a better choice for number three.

Now I think about it - can’t he afford to stay in hotels where they change the sheets every day???

Even if he makes his bed, it’ll be un-made as soon as the maid with the clean bed linen turns up later that morning.

Or is that the point? In which case, he needs a psychiatrist.

Yes, the not tipping thing is kinda jerky. But, honestly, is that the worst you can say about the man? Big deal.

As for the other two:

  1. If being a smartass makes you a tool, then the SDMB is the on-line version of Home Depot.

  2. I have made my bed in a hotel before. Sometimes I want to read in bed and a big mess of covers is not comfy. And I might not want to get under the covers if I’m fully dressed. So I straighten things up.

This site lists which celebrities are bad tippers and which are good ones. It put Tiger in the bad tipper column, but all it ever said about him was “Tiger Woods was supposedly very cheap, since he doesn’t carry cash”. Make of that what you will (even though it ain’t exactly hard to write in the tip on a credit card check)

No word on whether or not he is a smartass. I’m not going to judge him for that though. After all, “Let he who is without crass, throw the first barb”

That site also lists John Candy as a good tipper. Somehow I doubt that veracity of that assertion.

How pissed would I be as a hotel chambermaid to find out that:

(a) the tight-fisted multi-billionnaire guest had left no tip

(b) I no longer had a job because he had worked me out of one

Heh, there’s a lot more to a hotel chambermaid job than making the bed. If I were into neatness I’d probably make the bed in a hotel too, regardless of how often the bedding gets changed (and in my experience, all but the cheapest hotels change it daily).

As for the part about him being a smartass, at least his PR handlers are apparently doing their job then, eh?

Least he’s not Russell Crowe.

You Merkins get so upset over this tipping thing! We don’t tip and I love it this way. The thing that I don’t like about Tiger Woods is that he is boring - nothing interesting to talk about. Probably dreams about golf only.

And what’s wrong with that?

Because waitstaff only make about 2.13 an hour and the bulk of their income comes from their tips.

Yeah, it sucks, but don’t take it out on the poor waitron.

The thing that I don’t like about Tiger is that he makes the game look too easy. IT’S NOT MEANT TO BE THAT EASY!

Okay, so maybe he doesn’t tip himself. Most people who are worth as much money as Tiger often have “handlers” with them who take care of things like tipping. He eats most of his meals at Mark O’Meara’s house anyway.

As for making his own bed, I do this too. I can’t stand the sight of a messy bed in the hotel room and will often make it prior to the maid arriving.

A far as the smartass thing goes, I’ve never seen an interview of Tiger where he isn’t humble. He will often base his wins on “luck”, when we all know that it’s skill, dedication and focus that wins golf tournaments.

His fellow players like him and that’s good enough for me.

For the 3rd or 4th time on this board… Tiger, lose the nanny. Mr. Honey will understand (in fact I’m fairly certain that he would encourage it), my number is --****.

Honey
Nobody speaks ill of Tiger Woods or Joe Montana.

Let’s go easy on the poor guy. I mean, he was picked on all through high school. Really badly. Of course, he’s got the last laugh now.

Anyways, yeah, the tipping thing is pretty crappy. But making the bed isn’t that bad. And being a smartass isn’t bad either, in fact, I’d love it if he was more of a smartass on camera…but I don’t blame him for actively avoiding it as it might hurt the endorsement list.

He’s also a jerk because he sued a poor artist for selling pictures of him because it violated his right to control all uses of his image.

Has anyone seen the Quentin Tarantino Movie Reservoir Dogs? The whole opening dialog is about this. I don’t believe in tipping they say. I always try to tip based on the service, bue never leave less than 10%.
