Tim Horton's Appreciation Thread

Mad props to Tim Hortons.

My idea of a perfect winter evening begins with two hours of tobogganing, and is followed by sipping Tim Horton’s coffee through fogged-up glasses and enjoying either a cherry stick or an apple fritter.

However, I’ve never liked their sandwiches. I swear I once ordered a turkey sandwich that came with filet de hockey puck inside.

TIMBITS!!!
Whenever I’m over the boarder I get one of those huge boxes, all mixed… ohhh… soo goood…
While up in Canada visiting a friend who moved from further north down to Ottawa I saw him on the phone. He was talking to his dad, up north. I told him to say hey. He told his dad that a friend from NY said hello while on the way out to get some coffee.
His dad said, we don’t drink “cawfee” like you new-yawkers (I don’t have a ny accent, btw), we drink “Tim hortons” (said quickly).

I have never laughed so hard…

I spent a long weekend in Halifax once, and it was great. But the Tim’s near my hotel on Barrington St. was closed on Sundays! I went to a French cafe and had a real croissant and all, so it was cool. But do they all close on Sundays?

This was in 2000, so maybe things have changed.

Not all Tim Horton’s are closed Sunday. Egads! There would be rioting in the street. Tim Horton’s is a religion 'round here!

I’ve actually never heard of a Horton’s that is closed Sunday’s… the ones in my city are open almost every day of the year.

I agree with plain_jain - it’s rare to see them closed. And people NEED to have a coffee and donut after church or, better still, an iced cappucino to cure a hangover after a good Saturday night (my bf swears by this cure).

Barbarian: You will be happy to know that there are a great many Tim Horton’s in Montreal now.

Background: most of the doughnut trade in Montreal was controlled by the Dunkin’ Donuts cartel for the longest time. But with the waning of the sovereignty movement, Tim Horton’s (I don’t remember whether they use the apostrophe or not) is moving in. There are several locations I frequent, including the one in the tunnel from Place Ville-Marie to Eaton Centre; the one on St-Denis St.; the one in front of Beaudry metro; and the one near Concordia. There’s also one in the basement of the MacLennan-Redpath Library at McGill. Finally, it was a great comfort to me to be able to stop in to a recently opened one in the Longueuil bus terminus for a soup and a costarde à l’érable during a cold day taking snapshots near the metro station.

I used to bake those tea biscuits and macaroons, etc. I think I did four stints of baking for Tim’s.

I live in a town of just over 30, 000. There are 7 Tim’s here.

HeeHee. I was reading this thread, thinking about how tasty Tim Hortons treats are, and when I walk out to the kitchen here at work, some kind soul has left a box of Muffins out!

I think opening a Tim Hortons franchise is about the safest thing you could do around here. Close to where I live, there are 3 Tims on one street, within a 1 minute drive of each other - and they’re all busy. One is in a gas station, and you can see cars parked outside, not because people are getting gas, but because they’re getting coffee and doughnuts. The other has two drive through windows, and they’re still lined up out on to the street. The third is a regular store (no drive through window), and also seems busy all the time.

My wife and I jokingly say, whenever there is some unidentified store being built, that it’s probably another Tim Hortons. A [C/K]rispy [C/K]reme opened up across the street from a Tims a couple of Months ago. After the initial furor died down, it doesn’t seem to have hurt the Tim Hortons too much.

Now, when you get a Tim Hortons inside a Canadian Tire, you know you’re in Canuk heaven

Can you provide a cite please…

I had though they had just ‘partnered - up’ in some locations the same was PetroCanada and A&W have in some locations but you don’t see people running around saying that PetroCanada owns A&W do you??

Here’s Wendy’s International’s corporate website. Tim Horton’s is the second chain listed as being owned by the corporation:

I guess thats kind of like getting Harveys in Home Depot :stuck_out_tongue:

I think Van Houtte is better than Tims, but not many of them in Ontario, and coffee ain’t $1.25.

I discovered Tim’s on a recent trip to Canada. At first I didn’t know what they were, but they sure seemed to be everyplace. Then I stopped in at one and was hooked, big time.

I’m more a grazer than a fan of big, heavy meals, especially when travelling. Tim’s was pure heaven: great coffee, good soups and excellent pastries, all for a reasonable price and no chi-chi nonsense about it.

Tim’s hasn’t arrived down my way yet, but they can’t get here fast enough.

Veb

Does it say “Tim Horton’s” or “Timmy’s”? Because there are a great number of road-side gas-station/donut shops that say “Timmy’s” complete with similar font, colour etc. These are clearly not Tim Horton’s but a sad, shameful copy.

Except no substitutes.

Large double-double please.

Nah, these are the real deal. I know a Tim Horton’s when I see one. I can’t say I would blame another place for trying to capitalize on them though.

I had to say again how much I love this place… I wish that there was one in walking distance of my house… at least the one I got at the Rideau Centre lasted until I got home

MMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Tim Horton’s… you rock my socks!

Thank you. Now I’m crying into my mug of substandard American coffee. Dammit.
