Tim Horton's enters the NYC donuts and coffee fray......so, what's good?

Tim Horton’s is making a foray into NYC. I wasn’t too big on Dunkin’ Donuts except for a Mocha coolata and blueberry muffin treat every now & then. The rest of Dunkin’s pretty much just served to fill the hole IMO.

What’s good from Tim Horton’s? Maybe some kind of yummy Canadian bacony cheesy artery buster? Any particular pastry that’s head and shoulders above the rest? What’s your Tim Horton’s staple?

It is with regret that I cut back on my traditional start of two Tim Horton’s bacon breakfast sandwiches. (In almost forty years, this is the first thing that ever compelled me to actually pack on a few pounds.)

I don’t understand the appeal of doughnuts.

The NYTimes did a taste-test comparison yesterday. Neither company really came out ahead:

I recommend their Apple Fritters, Yummy!!

Iced cappacino’s are liquid heroin.

Those all sound right up my alley.

The breakfast sandwiches are the best in the industry. Their coffee is also among the best in the industry. Of course when I say coffee, I mean brewed coffee, taken black without adulterations. I prefer their donuts to Krispy Kreme, because they’re not as sickingly sweet.

Their glazed sour cream doughnut is hard to beat.

Indeed, and their Fruit Explosion muffin is a messy delight. Pair either with a double double and you’re good to go.

I have a double-double (coffee, double cream, double sugar) almost every day on the way to work.

I believe their coffee has narcotics in it.

I always have a steeped tea, two milk, two sugar (gotta watch those calories!)

I recommend the crueller! But we usually get a 10 box of tim bits - chocolate, crueller and honey glazed.

I thought that steeped tea was only available in the Maritimes?

Yes, their donuts are far preferred to Krispy Kreme’s in Canada, which is why KK was such a failure here. And it wasn’t because of lack of interest; KK’s stores were mobbed when they first opened.

Also, their soup-and-a-bagel deal is a great light lunch.

They have by far the best crullers on the market.

No.

Nope, it’s all over Canada now.

As for the OP, there’s nothing like their chili meal with a double double on a cold day. Also, any of their maple donuts. If you want to stack on the calories, there’s one with maple icing on the top and cream filling in the middle!

Iced capps are cracktastic, and I also enjoy the Bagel BELT, even though I always think of the Bible Belt when I order it.

Now? When did it start in the Maritimes? We’ve had it for three or four years now.

Chili sounds good, too. My wife will be into the steeped tea big time.

I don’t know about some of these donuts, though. They sound perverse.

Do you order a double double or that’s just what you put into it when you’re at the condiments station? Hopefully the people behind the counter will be up on the lingo.

I like their soup and sandwiches, and my favorite donut is the blueberry fritter. My mouth is watering now. They make a really nice eclair, too. Oh, and the absolute best ever black forest cake I’ve ever had was from Tim Horton’s.

I’ve never been a coffee drinker, but based on my observations for many years, I think Timmy’s coffee is more popular here than Starbucks.

There are no condiment stations - they have those machines that pump cream and sugar in. That’s why I never order black tea there, since there’s no way to get little enough milk for my tastes. Also, double-double is ridiculously sweet, be warned.

As for food, the sandwiches are good, I love the bacon breakfast sandwiches (I gave up eating all pork a year or so ago in part so that I would never again be tempted) and I really like the muffins. They are absolutely full of fat but they’re the most moist around for that reason.
