Time for a picnic in the MMP!!

Morning all. 72F with 40% chance of rain (all the rain went north or south of me yesterday).

Got some paperirk with preliminary plans for the house remodel, need to go shopping this week, but first need to clear up a few things with the contractor.

Otherwise not much on the agenda.

**sari **- I don’t see carry-out for meals simply because they’re broke. And I hate EDGE with a white hot hate of hateful hatred!! It’s on my mom’s machine and I can’t seem to kill it. I also hate Win10 - have I mentioned that lately??

Busy busy here, but I needed a little brain break. I had to redo a bunch of what I did yesterday, but it’s made things easier today, and the model is now correct, so yay for that.

OK, back at it.

So the N.O.T. tater salad really will be O.T. tater salad, or just plain tater salad?

You’re giving doggio a ride? How nice of you. :stuck_out_tongue:
Nuts, Instead of bringing something, why don’t you be in charge of security, taking care of the uninvited yellow & black attendees.

I tried to call my CC company yesterday. I didn’t have the card w/ me, only a statement (which puts ‘xxxx’ for the first 12 digits).
Automated system: Please enter you 16 digit acct #
Me: Customer service

What if my card was lost or stolen & I didn’t know the #? :smack:
I make a good, heavy, NY style cheesecake, but it probably wouldn’t be good for a picnic, it’s liable to snap the plastic forks.
Since we already have lots of food & drink, I’ll bring some activities, frisbees & such.

We had 4½" of rain Sun night.

Your father smells of elderberries.
No country in which one can ever purchase deep fried butter has the right to look down their nose at our cuisine.

Good morning, Mumpers!

So sorry about Miss Maxine, swampy.

Edge is of the devil. I don’t hate Windows 10, but I do hate that Microsoft seems to think that they’ve developed a new browser. (Does anyone actually use it?)

I’ll bring a red cabbage salad that’s a family favorite. (it’s kind of a Waldorf salad variation).

In GT news, I’m officially an old fogey by virtue of having retired. It finally go too stressful to be working and going back and forth to my Mom’s in Mexico. Since I had the luxury of enough state service to retire, I went for it. And it’s working out great, so far.

I’m at Mom’ now for 3 weeks, hanging out and trying to make sure everything is organized and Mom has everything she needs (including my company).

She’s almost 94 and in really good health (despite breaking her hip last year), but her memory has gotten pretty iffy. So, we repeat conversations a lot and retell jokes and look at pictures multiple times.

I’m trying to get her to tell stories so that I can get them recorded or written down. That needs to happen multiple times because stories change from one telling to the next. I’ve heard enough about people and events to be reasonably sure that I’m recording the right version.

Will try to be back more regularly now that I have a bit more control over my time.

Howdy Y’all! I’ve been doctored, vampired, had N.O.L. and achieved nappage. Oh and laundry got done. Go Me! In a little while I shall head over to the church house. I shall call the Chinese takeout place when I finish up at the church house and pick up The General’s sup on my way back to da cave.

{{{gt}}} ::tacklehug:: Yay on the retirement and gettin’ to spend time with your mom! Do get those stories. Family stories are so important!

GMOOOOOOM the book was most likely a collection of family white lightnin’ recipes and instructions on how to build stills disguised as outhouses. That’s how we never got caught by the revenooers.

Well, fine then I’ll just talk to myself.

Candle duty has been completed and The General’s Sup has been consumed. All is well.

::waves:: I have made it to CA. The shuttle overheated on the way to airport and the [del]brilliant[/del] adequately intelligent driver kept on going. We listened to a shrill warning beep and smelled a lovely burnt engine smell for the last 30 minute or so. We got the airport, but I don’t think that there vee-hik-cull is going anywhere anytime soon.

I then attempted to helped my parents move some files off of old computers so they could be trashed. The first danger sign was when they couldn’t even remember how to start the first one. Then I noticed the floppy drive. It went down hill from there. Net-net, they’re going to send me sys specs on all 3 (::sobs::slight_smile: so I can get the right drivers and try again in a week or so. I tried suggesting that they could hire someone to do this, but their faith in me is boundless. Also I am “free”.

Today I selected carpeting and so on for the new house. I opted out of all white everything everywhere, which is what happens if you don’t choose. I may have commented in my out loud voice that I didn’t want to live in a hospital. I think it will look very nice.

I have also called the court about tomorrow. When I checked online, I’m not listed. When I called the court, they have no record of me. I also asked them about why I needed to bring 'Beamer, because he’s sick and autistic, sick kiddo in court is a recipe for disaster. They said kids are not supposed to come. I’m starting to think that the officer is screwing with me. If the paperwork doesn’t show up, then I don’t have togo. i probably will anyway, so I don’t get arrested at Crater Lake on vacation someday.

I’m back at the airport heading back home. It’s been a busy three days.

For the picnic, I will BBQ tri-tips.

Supper was Hamburger Helper lasagna, salad, and garlic bread. Dishwasher is doing its thang.

Taz has started spraying around the house. He’s apparently none too happy about the other cats here. Dammit. Like I need this.

Sunny, sounds like a busy three days. Hope the computer stuff works out. And when you’re done with the new house, you can help me pick out stuff for my remodeling (see below)…

gt, welcome to the ranks of the retired; that’s you, swampy, FCGM, and yours truly for the 'get-off-my-lawn" brigade.

Nut, it’s worse than that; have you been following this thread? https://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=856619

So I spent a fair portion of the day looking at stuff for the remodeling. Made a choice on granite for the countertops and porcelain for the shower and still need to decide between about 200 shades of brown for the cabinets, but progress is being made! Just hope everything works together when I’m done–for what I’m spending, it ain’t going to get changed for another 20 years if I can help it.

But that portion is done for now and chillage mode is engaged.

Mooooom, son’t get too used to the good sleeping weather; if our weather heads east as usual, you’ll have hot and muggy in a couple of days.

Welcome back GT!

I, too, dislike Windows 10. It isn’t as intuitive, doesn’t [del]play well[/del] interface well with programs that I need to use and takes an end run to keep everything on the task bar that I need.

Home, floors swept and mopped. After supper, I’ll repair Nelson’s bed for the studio so that he has a [del]toybox[/del] bed close to where I’m working.

GT! Yay! Glad you’re back.

For the record, I am also in the ‘get off my lawn’ brigade. (Unless you brought BBQ fixins, in which case, come ahead.)

Nothing much to report except my visit to the hospital went just fine. Doc snipped three polyps outta my nethers, but unless something nasty shows up on biopsy I won’t have to do that again for 10 years, hopefully. Throat was a little sore from the stretching, but not a problem there either. They even gave me some color pictures from both procedures, not that they show me very much. Oddly enough, they look a lot alike, which might be construed as a comment on the human condition, if you like. :stuck_out_tongue:

Not a fan of windoze 10 here either. Just illustrates that old adage; ‘Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should’.

Carry on!
GMom, hamburger helper lasagna? That’s a real thing? Is it any good?
(I generally like lasagna okay, but I don’t make it 'cause it’s too much trouble for what it is, so on the very rare occasions that we get the urge, we buy ready made at the store.)

So you got spit roasted by cameras??? Wouldn’t have been easier to just swallow one of those pill cameras?
Home, just finished the rest of dinner (I had a few bites earlier), but I’m still hongree. The good news is there’s both pretzels & ice cream.
Another too cold night, low of 62°. ::sideways glance at Mooommm::
Add me onto the "I hate Win 10, & will only go to it (some day) kicking & screaming. They did the same thing that they did with Orifice 2007 - that @#$%& ribbon…& breaking [del]all[/del] many of the keyboard shortcuts that have been in place since at least Win 3.1.

Also I never use IEeee because it sux. Why should I use it’s replacement?

It violates Plant’s Third Law of Cooking, nothing that comes in a box is food, but hamburger helper is edible, and mercifully quick.

Slow day at work. Came home napped. made spicy chicken tacos with sauteed peppers, onions and jalapenos.

How about depp fried Coke?

gt!
: tacklehug :
Welcome back! And glad you get to hear Mom’s stories.

The hell do elderberries smell like?

Johnny’s working the carnival circuit now, huh? Hollywood must not be as lucrative a career as I thought.

You dad. D’uh! :stuck_out_tongue:

metalmouse it sounds like you’re picking out exactly the kind of things I’m picking out. I chose carpet, floors for kitchen and dining room, granite for kitchen, tile for the bathrooms, etc. It was fun, and hopefully I will not do that again.

Up, but don’t need to be up this early. At least the dryer is dryerin’ whilst I lay here & ponder the far wall.

Up ,caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to work. Double shift today.
