Time For Some Doper Updates, Please

Well, I did talk to Airman tonight, and he thinks there’s an excellent chance he could be home this week, next week at the outside. Otherwise, we’re hanging in there. We were lucky in that Airman wasn’t gone as long as others, and that he wasn’t on the front lines.

Aaron is not so little! He goes in for his 9-month checkup tomorrow, so I’ll re-post with the latest stats. Also, I’ve updated the photo album with new pictures, so check it out if you’re interested.

Here’s an obscure one -

Way back when, someone posted a thread saying they were going to get a 5 gallon bucket and use it to store loose change. There was a lot of calculation and speculation as to how long it would take to fill up and how much money would be in it when it did fill. I’d like an update on that project, if it in fact started.

Hey Shayna, I made it to 20, not too bad.

Update on it: Yes, they were almost 100% sure they had the guys, but our wonderful local police sat on it too long and the guys ended up lost in the system… They’ll never get charged for it. Works out ok, though. I don’t care if they ever do get anything for it, I stopped caring about that a LONG time ago. Doesn’t do any good to fight to get them in trouble… they’re already going to jail for something else (and I assume they’ll spend most of their lives behind bars). Doesn’t bother me anymore.

And I’m considering doing it again in a few months. (only considering at this point) This time making sure there are a few people with me at all times, appropriate defensive tools (pepper spray would be a smart thing to have around).

I plan on doing it again out of protest of the police force in the town. to drive the point home to people that our police is not effective. I don’t care what happens to those who were a pain before, not in the least because I know they’ll be behind bars their entire lives, unable to hurt others. But I want to make sure that people know the local police force isn’t effective and other situations could become harmful due to their lack of effort (my situation just went back to normal, no real harm done).

And another note, from time to time I see the guy who came down from his appartment and scared off the guys. I hang out with him some, usually at the local coffee shop. Nice guy, the whole thing was worth it to me because I met a bunch of really great people.

Oh… just read through that thread for the first time since late last summer… Scarlett67 requested I type up the rest of the journal from the early hours of the day. I thought they were tossed a long time ago but just recently Palve mentioned he had found them among a bunch of other papers. Sometime I’ll type them up.

Shayna and Coldfire, I’m sorry if my asking about tatertot brought up bad memories or issues for anyone. :frowning: I completely understand wantint to keep it off the board. Thank you, though, for explaining what’s known about what happened.

I believe that was Hey Homie (then known as rastahomie) and he wanted to know how much money would fill up a bucket (of some size … 5 lb may well have been it; I don’t remember) if it were all pennies. The total estimated was some surprisingly large number (in the thousands, I think).

Did Euty ever get his banjo?

I’d like to know how Welby’s son (or step-son?) is getting on.

I have a bottle from the top of a water cooler. That’s five gallons, right? It’s about half-filled with loose change, mostly pennies, but some nickels, dimes and quarters, too.
We can only move it by shoving it, always accompanied by the comment, “Damn, that’s heavy! We should get all that rolled up and cash it in.”

If I ever do dump it out and roll up the change, I’ll let you know how much was in it.

Opal’s fine, at least in reguard to her surgery. She looks really good now, though I don’t know how much weight she’s lost. She’'s been sick for a week or so though.

About the money in a jar, I had a gallon jug that I had only filled between 1/2 and 3/4, mostly pennies, dimes and nickles and got just over $90. That damn thing was heavy. I can’t imagine even trying to lug around a five gallon thing of coins.

Me too!

Yes, I remember being concerned about the situation with welby’s stepson and hoping for a good resolution to the problem. I’m also quite curious about all the other stories others have posted, too!

This one goes way, way back. (A couple years or so at least.) There was one doper who had decided to quit his job and actually become a hobo and ride the rails for a time just for the experience. I always wondered what happened to him and what amazing stories he might have to tell. I can’t for the life of me remember who it was though.

Shayna, you’re so sweet to ask. I really appreciate all the advice that you and others gave!

Actually, it just went to court two weeks ago (criminal, not civil). We’ve decided to not pursue the civil route. She got over $1K in fines, two years probation and mandatory driving school (which she has to pay for). She also had to pay our medical expenses and insurance deductible.

The judge also set up a restitution hearing where we are asking for $5300 above and beyond what the insurance company paid us for the car. I don’t remember the exact terminology, but something like “compensatory loss” or some such. . . . Monty, before you get your panties in a wad, it’s because we had just put a brand new $5K engine and turbos in the car, which effectively increased it’s value.

The judge told her to bring last year’s tax return  (I doubt she even filed) and all pay stubs for YTD. That way, if she’s financially able and the judge sees fit, he will make her pay for the loss in value of our car.

I ended up having a cracked sternum and my husband had muscle spasms, but we’re both great now.

She never was able to prove that she had insurance, so our company had to pay for it under our Uninsured Motorist’s Policy.

We had to total it - there was over $10K in damages. We told the repair shop to stop counting at $10K. We bought it back, sold the engine and then bought an Audi A4. He loves it, but still misses the “Z”. :frowning:

A couple of months ago someone posted about their brother being arrested. He was living in Arizona or California (?) and was arrested for a warrant issued in Oregon, where he had worked in a child-care center, and had (without his knowledge) a child abuse complaint filed against him.
Does anyone remember the poster or know how things turned out?

Shirley, some great questions! I’ll look forward to the answers, myself.

Coldie, first of all, Spiny and I are saying lots of prayers and sending lots of good wishes across the pond for your father. I think you know already that I’m (sadly) familiar with what you’re going through. It’s awesome that your dad’s prognosis is so good! Keep us posted, because we all worry about you, 'k?

Secondly, I completely agree that I wish this subject of tatertot would stay off the boards. But since 2 people did ask, and I am probably the one most closely familiar with what happened (besides being the one who started the thread) I felt like I had to give some sort of answer, at least. I tried to be as brief and matter-of-fact as I could, with what little facts any of us have and then suggested that it was better left alone at this point. I didn’t mean to misrepresent their status, just to point out that they are no longer allowed to post here due to the contradiction and the lack of any kind of explanation or apology. I think we both said the same thing, but with slightly different wording (being banned vs being inactivated and not allowed to post). Sorry if I stepped on any toes for stating it as I did. [sub][sup](Frankly, I’d just like to forget the whole thing ever happened, because it still causes some hurt to both Thomas and me.)[/sup][/sub]

But Serendipity, don’t you feel bad about asking at all! You couldn’t possibly have known! Maybe enough people will see this thread now and the curiosity will die out so no one will ever feel compelled to ask about it again. In that case, it’d be a good thing you asked!

MsRobyn, I’m very glad to hear that Airman will get to come home so soon. It’s amazing that it’s over so quickly!

clayton, I’m sorry to hear the cops dropped the ball on the shitstains who beat you up, but MORE POWER TO YOU for having the guts to do it again and make a peaceful point at the same time! Please post a new thread whenever you schedule the next sit-in. I’d love to follow along and hear how it goes. Best of luck to ya, kiddo!

Marconi & Schmeese, it sounds like you’ve been through quite the ordeal. Thank goodnes they at least caught the woman! Let’s hope the judge does make her pay up. I’m so happy to hear that your injuries have healed – that’s really the most important thing. Take Care! And let us know if you ever do get a judgement – I’d like to celebrate with you – hehe!

Thanks, everyone, for your replies so far!

Eggo is the guy of which you are thinking. And quite an experience that trip turned out to be.

Update: The went with the Jeff Strykers. They fought over a name for well over two weeks and decided to take the porn route. (FTR: None of them look anything like their new namesake). The 8 1/2 x 14 Compiled List off all the great suggestions hangs on the wall between the bathrooms at the back of Club 608 in Babylon. Everyone who sees it for the 1st (and in some cases 2nd, 3rd & 4th time) gets a kick out of it. From what I’ve been told, being that several members of opposing teams stop in there Monday nights after bowling, more than a few of them are considering name changes for the Fall Leagues.

On a side note: Any creative ideas posted to this thread would once again be greatly appreciated.

Did Welby ever discover the identity of the Narrative Pooper?

You must remember that one:
<singing> “Who let the logs out?.. Me! Me! Me! Me!”

Was that the “Hoo boy!” one?
