Update: I found this thread. http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?threadid=153395
The brother did get released and possibly the charges were going to get dropped.
That was Cardinal, in this thread. I’m sending him an e-mail to ask for an update.
Thanks.
I’m doing OK myself, I’ve always been good at letting the rational side prevail when you still can. My dad does the same, pretty much: it’s my mother who seems to be suffering the most. And yes, the prognosis looks pretty good. I’ll keep the thread I started about it alive as new events occur.
Oh, not to worry, no toes were stepped on. I was just dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s, so to speak. We both know enough about this matter to realise it should be approached with some care, and we both did.
Oh, just as an example of how positive my father is about all this, last week he went out and bought a new (well, 2 years old) caravan trailer to replace the old one (23 years old). He’s planning on traveling all across the continent with my mother, now that he has the time, what with him being retired and all.
No. :: pout ::
Did Esprix ever find the wintergreen toothpaste?
Whoa, UncleBeer, that’s freaky. What a story! Too bad the guy’s not active here anymore – I’d love to know what he’s up to now.
JohnBckWLD, thanks for the update!
lainaf, I missed that original thread. I, too, wonder what happened with Kristi’s brother. I hope he was indeed released!
Coldie,
Euty, there’s a banjo for sale at ebay that’s going for under $60.00! It needs strings, but you’d want to buy new ones even if it came with them, anyway. Auction’s over in a little under 4 hours, so hurry!
gallows fodder, it looks like Esprix did find a wintergreen toothpaste that met all his criteria. But apparently it had an aftertaste he didn’t like so he was going to try some of the other suggestions when the tube he had was gone. So Esprix, darlin’, is your tube empty yet?
Anybody interested in an update on the situation with Phlosphr and the abusive mental health worker he witnessed one day at the mall, looks like there’s an update on that one.

I can’t remember more than that, but this man has popped up on my personal radar of thoughts quite a bit.
Also, Coldfire How is your dad doing?
Aha how are you feeling since the tongue cancer? How did the doctors discover it? Did you feel anything?
Hi Shirley it’s me aha. I am feeling fine since the tongue cancer. I discovered it when I found a lump in the right side of my throat. It turned out to be a swollen lymph gland caused by the cancer at the base of my tongue. I was going to have surgery at first but then decided on radation and chemo. It is called the stanford plan and you get radiated twice a day for 6 weeks with chemo the first and last week. It was brutal but it zapped the tumor on the base of my tongue. I lost some sense of taste and salivia but otherwise am just fine. The Five Americans ( I am the lead singer) just performed at my college to a packed venue. Thanks for asking about me and you can buy my album at walmart or amazon anytime. ( Sorry mods to advertise if I broke a rule then erase this part)
I want to know
about Tuckerfan’s weird neighbors
about Evilbeth’s daughter. Weight? Pictures?
about Sue Duhnym’s daughter. Last I heard she was going through the Terrible Twos, screaming in the shower and making poor Sue nuts. (And I know this is ancient history, but the image is stuck in my mind.)
Actually, I just heard some news on him the other day. I meant to post a follow up on it but never got around to it…
There is good news and bad news.
Good news is: He doesn’t have SARS.
Bad news is: His outlook still isn’t all that good.
The email we received was based on news that “He was in isolation and nobody could visit him.” This news was received at the height of the SARS scare, so the author of the email assumed that it was SARS without confirmation.
Turns out he does not have SARS, but some rare disorder or something (sorry, I don’t know what it is) and they indeed did put him in isolation at first. His entire body was paralized or some damn thing, and the news is the doctors think if he recovers it will take a year or more. I think he is out of isolation now, but I do know his condition is still quite serious. Thats all I know.
Not that anyone asked, but my pregnancy is going just fine (and I really am pregnant, and have pictures to prove it!). We don’t know the sex of the baby yet, but will find out next week, when I have an amnio done–my doc has recommended it, since I’m over 35. I’m not crazy about the thought of the reeeeeally big needle, but the payoff is the super hi-res ultrasound they do as part of the procedure. Both UncleBill and I want to know before the baby is born whether it’s a boy or a girl.
We’re currently looking to relocate, since Miami is nowhere near any family members. The search is underway in the mid-Atlantic and Colorado. Wish us luck!
This has been great.
I am glad to hear that Coldie’s dad is very optimistic about his situation. Buying that caravan is more than enough motivation to survive. Do you know how many people just give up when they hear the word cancer?
**Aha ** I had been wondering how you discovered your cancer. I never heard of tongue cancer, and, well, it is just not something I would put on my top ten lists of Diseases I’d Like. Glad you are doing great and singing.
Thanks for the link about marine who got his hand blown off in Iraq. I am glad he is doing well and his family understands how important that he is alive and in good spirits. Closure is a wonderful thing.
Geobabe I am very happy for you and **UncleBill ** having a bun in the proverbial oven. Good luck with the house hunting and moving. (Don’t worry too much about the amnio and the dreaded big needle. Several friends of mine had it done and they said it was not nearly as bad as they expected.)
Oh, and Bosda – how’ve you been since the car accident?
I had an amnio done at 8 months, and I’m a world champion weenie when it comes to needles. It wasn’t that bad at all. They numb the spot before they stick the big one in. Just don’t look.
Good luck and congratulations!
I’m curious about that chick from LA who came over for a weekend in Amsterdam not knowing whether she could spend $US or needed to get some of that foreign stuff … seems a while ago now. I particularly wonder if her experiences in the past couple of years of Europe and Europeans have changed any prior perceptions she may have had …. probably seems like a different world, now ? I also hope thing are working out well for hubby, both in LA and with regard employment ….
On another note, I take occasional breaks from the board and tend to lose the drift. There are some posters I haven’t seen for quite a while. For example, purplebear who I used to like for her genuine warmth and caring nature. Nor have I seen T*N Hippie, and I rather miss the limericks and his gentle nature. I know he’d had some difficult times but, last I read, things were straightening out for him … just find myself wondering what happened to them …and I’m sure there are others, as well …those just came to mind … any news ?
Which one? Thre were 2.
As it stands, I still haven’t totally gotten over the elevated stress levels.
Geobabe’s pregnant???
That means…she’s had sex!!!
Mazel Tov to you both.
Cartooniverse
I hope he didn’t get it from SPOOFE! But that would explain the aftertaste.
Thanks. Bill will be there with me, and he already knows his job is to distract me.
Well, they told me it was my wifely duty, so, y’know.
