Time For Some Doper Updates, Please

Thanks for posting a link to that thread, White Lightning. What great news!

And aha, my friend, I’m just thrilled to pieces that you’ve recovered and are doing so well! Go You!

bernse, I sure hope they find out what’s wrong with your co-worker and can start him on the road to recovery soon! How scary.

Geobabe, you and Uncle Bill must be SO excited. Wheeee! Congratulations again! Any names picked out yet?

Londong Calling, you crack me up, man! We are doing so great. Thomas found a wonderful job at a Fortune 100 company and so far he loves it. I’ll let him come tell you more details about it, though, since it’s really his news to share. It’s so sweet of you to ask after us. And how’s your non-smoking going? I’m still smoke free – 10 months, 4 days, 17 hours, 55 minutes and 46 seconds (hehe). We have simply got to get you out here for a visit. That would be so awesome!

Bosda, heal soon, ok?!

//\etalhea|), Eeeeew! :slight_smile:

Mr. Calling, so good to see you’re thinking of this poor piece of Trash on the West Coast.

It’s working out pretty OK, actually.

Finding gainful employment has been a cast-iron bitch - for a while I had a job testing used networking hardware for a somewhat bipolar e-bay auctioneer, I guess that’s about the lowest rung on the networking ladder. But I’ve had the good luck to land a network operations job with Universal (Actually, Universal Music) and I’m having a blast, at least as far as the actual work is concerned. Sadly, it’s night work, but hints have been dropped that if I can only hang on, bigger and better things are just around the corner. Certainly, I’ve found that people are most accomodating to my desires re. training etc. Colleagues are great, benefits rock, and the network prods buttock. Yeah, I’m a happy camper.

LA is a weird place in many respects, but I find myself settling in and adapting a lot of the local attitude as regards weather (warm), traffic (sucks) etc. etc. If they’d only allow me to drink beer on the beach, it would resemble civilization

I sure as hell hope we’ll find a way to get to Londope and hoist a few!

Did Shayna just call our Cockney Rebel “Long Dong Calling”? Where the hell is HER mind, huh?

I want to know what happened with Montezumas son.

You see, Coldie, I was simply combining the current sequential thread titles (Time For Some Doper Updates, Please. What is your porn name?) and replying on behalf of our friend Mr. Calling.

Condensing replies into one thread helps save those cute little hamster legs from becoming exhausted so soon. It was for the good of the board!

[sup][sub]That’s my story, and I’m sticking to it.[/sub][/sup]

:stuck_out_tongue:

Whatever happened to Eggo? He lost his leg in an auto accident and then got a book deal about his travels. We haven’t heard from him in ages.

So I finally made it to the board!

First, Shayna, no I haven’t found the teapot. Those darned things are scarce! You are so very sweet to keep me in mind.

Next, the evilbaby–henceforth known as evilemmy–is doing great! She is 17 months old now. She weighs 19 pounds and is 27 1/2" tall.

She can say, “No” (of course!), “Momma”, “Dadda”, “Dog”, “Cow”, “Kitty”, “PawPaw”, and can almost (but not quite) say, “Hasek” (our dog). She is trying hard to walk, too. The most steps she has taken without falling so far is four. She tries all the time. She can stand up fine without falling but keeping her balance while walking is something we’re still working on.

She received her last Synagis vaccination (to prevent RSV) last month. That should be the last one ever as she should have grown enough healthy lung tissue now that if she were to get RSV, she would very likely be hospitalized but would survive.

She eats grown-up food exclusively. She’s not the world’s greatest with a spoon but we’re working on it. She can use a fork without too much trouble–provided the food she is eating is easy to spear. She drinks from a sippy cup most of the time–although when she’s tired, she gets a bottle.

She has two bottom teeth and four upper teeth. They are discolored from the powerful drugs she was given. However, the dentist says that since it happened when she was so young, it most likely won’t affect her permanent teeth.

Her chest scars are fading nicely, although they will never fully disappear. Her hemangioma is involuting well and is hardly noticeable now. The scar on her upper forehead (from an infiltrated I.V.) is fading but she still doesn’t grow hair around it and might never.

Speaking of hair, her’s is finally growing! For a while there we thought she’d be perpetually bald! It is very blonde–as mine was as a small child. With her giant blue eyes, it makes an absolutely beautiful package if I do say so myself! However, since she doesn’t grow hair around her scar very well, her hairstyle is becoming rather mullet-like!

So far as pictures go–there are a few on her website (see sig) and I have more to upload as soon as I get around to it. The ones that are in her photo album on her site are from her first birthday party.

Whew! Get me started on one of my favorite topics and see what you get? I wish this site wasn’t blocked at work–I’d get a lot more reading and posting in!

That’s great news, ** evilbeth**!!

Definitely great news.

F_X

evilbeth, evilemmy is beautiful! And I must say, I love her middle name!

Cheers!
Katheryn

Good days, bad days, which is what the docs tell us to expect with him. He was doing very well taking his medication (antidepressant) then started squirreling it away when we weren’t looking. Fortunately, he wasn’t bright enough to throw the pills away, just stash them, so that something we’re addressing.

Mainly it’s going to be a long damn road, made longer by his resistance to getting better, but we’re getting there. Thanks for asking!

wow! look at evilemmy now!

thanks for the update and link. i’ll stay tuned.

I feel your pain. I was required (by a psycologist/marriage counselor) to watch my ex take her prozac every morning 'cause if I didn’t, she’d fake it and end up going off the deep end every day. There’s nothing better to bridge the gap and bring people back together like forcing one another to take pills! What a joke that was.

rocking chair–I have the world’s worst postal carrier. I’m sending you a letter–I’ll explain. But thank you so much!

Spiny and Shayna - Thanks for the reply!

It’s a little strange, but I’ve got Robert Altman’s ‘Short Cuts’ running through my head reading this … no reason, I guess … Wait ! you know, I’m wondering if Spiny reminds me of Tom Waits, ever such a little bit - well, son of.

So, very good news on the employment front ! Considerable relief. You know, you mentioning Universal Music reminds me of a fairly unfortunate girlfriend of old. She used to look after visiting acts for Universal Music HQ here in Broadwick Street. They were good employers, though. As you say, plenty of perks. And the good news is you’re too grown up to abuse the dark side which, she, unfortunately, wasn’t. Perseverance was worth it, though. Congratulations.

Only passed through the town once, myself. Yep, takes a little getting used to, I’m sure – but you will.

I don’t know about this Long Dong Calling business. Maybe, just maybe, going downhill with the wind behind me after a month in solitary but otherwise ……

Thanks for the update Welby. I know several of us are thinking of you and your family and hoping the good days outnumber the bad days. Best wishes.

Thank you! Well, we know as of today we can eliminate half of the names on the list.

It’s a boy!

I had an amnio done today–my OB recommended it, since I’m over 35, and I concurred that the test was a good idea. As part of the test, they do a high-res ultrasound, so we got a real good look at the little booger. And he’s very proud to be a boy. No question about the gender. We’ll get the results of the amnio in about 10 days.

I still want to know what happened with **Kid Charlemagne[/]'s survival skills course. He never came back and updated it damnit! Not even after I revived that stinkin thread quite a while later!

geobabe, that’s fantastic. i bet uncle bill has bought a wee marine romper already.

I’m wondering about Kid Charlemagne’s wilderness experience too! I was going to email him after he disconsolately posted that he never gets anything but spam (in a spam thread in GQ), but he wisely chose not to make his email public. (hee hee). Well kid, you missed getting a missive from me!

Evilbeth, I’m so glad to hear Emmy is doing so well!

welby, I didn’t know about your son! :frowning: Glad I checked here to find out and get the update.
