Time for the "Middle of 2015" Postcard Exhange!

I believe Quebec has a similar law that 98% of the churches must be named for Mary.

I received a lovely card from Ulf the Unwashed on Saturday. It shows a bronze sculpture of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt from the visitor center at the FDR Presidential Library and Museum. Thanks!

I’m working on the list of who has and has not yet received their postcards.

It looks like these Dopers not yet mailed their postcards:

Weedy
Melaleuca
BeeGee
MissTake
Amarinth
melodyharmonius

If you are on this list, could you please report in to the thread? Thanks!

I got a second card from Cheeze_Whia, a picture of ghost towns and camps in Colorado.

CW, did you ever see the documentary series Life After People? I thought of that, when I saw those old buildings. The show talks about how long our stuff myight last, if people vanished in an instant.

Hurrah! Got two cards from raventhief today! Loved the water-park. I didn’t get to go this year, so I was happy to visit through you. And I loved the cave too: that Chandelier is brilliant, no pun intended. Thanks again!

Bonus cards from raventhief! What a surprise!!

A lovely card from colonial Williamsburg showing a foundry, and a postcard from the Skyline Caverns in Virginia. The formation pictured resembles the US Capital Dome in DC.

Thank you!

If you liked that, I highly recommend this book: The World Without Us - Wikipedia

I got a postcard today from Amarinth (who can be removed from the deadbeat list) with a hybrid “then” and “now” photo of Pike Place Market! Where I have been! Thanks!

Received from blondebear, **Why Child **and silenus. Nice cards of old fruit packing plant (I think) a Stone-Masonry library building in CA, an Indigo Bunting, Santa Cruz deep Sea Invaders’, and a photo pack of the Badlands. Thanks all.

My 2nd in the snail mail Sunday.

No, I don’t think I have; I may need to check it out!

Thanks for the postcard from Seattle, amaranth! For some reason, I thought the Space Needle was closer to the middle of downtown (where the skyscrapers are). I guess it looks that way from certain angles (ones that must be used for every establishing shot of Seattle ever).

Sorry to burst your bubble, Karen, but the postcard is an illustration of a scene from 100 years ago. It’s a new-ish postcard, though the antique store in downtown Excelsior that I bought it from has a lot of old postcards. (I have one from the 1935 California-Pacific Exposition (a World’s Fair type thing) that I got from there.)

I once was working on a list of things that begin with “Minne”. It got really long, but I lost it. It’s apparently Dakota for “water”. There’s a lot of water features in Minnesota. Ten thousand lakes, dontcha know? Even the natural gas company around here is (was) called Minnegasco (until it got bought out), which is a good name for a fictional Minnesota town (à la Lake Wobegon) which would be on Lake Minnegasco.

My postcards went out a week ago, Anaglyph’s came back with insufficient postage so I did that one over. Mailed Sunday.

I received Marilyn Monroe from Kayaker and Anaglyph’s heart.

Thanks for the reports! I’m having a devil of a time constructing a list of who has received from who – I’m going to try a different format tonight and see if I can keep it straight. I either have too many things going on or am getting old!

I got the second card from Ulf yesterday. It shows a railroad bridge built in the 1880’s that has now been transformed into a pedestrian bridge over the Hudson river! Very cool!

Just to confuse things: I sent postcards not only to the three addresses I got from you, but also to anybody else in this exchange whose address I had from previous exchanges.
So I sent off 12 postcards on July 31st. The first arrived at its destination on the fourth or fifth of August (Elendil’s heir). So far (August 20th), the arrival of nine postcards has been confirmed, three appear still to be in transit, one of them to a regular addressee.
To date, I have received one card, from Kayaker.

Yes, Fantasy Springs is a lovely Indio resort. It’s lovelier during cooler weather, though, as it was in the triple digits there even at night when I went in July, and the winds were blowing at an insanely high speed. See my short video of it here (no, you can’t relax next to a pool when it’s blowing like that!):

Sorry I haven’t been back with the updates, real life has been crazy!

I have received postcards from davida03801 and blondebear, so I have gotten all of mine. This has been fun, and I’m already collecting cards for the next one!!

I got a second postcard from raventhief! Fantastic photo of some reeeeeeally impressive caverns

Lovely! Thanks a bunch!

A very funny/cute/appropriate card from BeeGee, thanks!

And I would have gotten it a week ago, but it was accidentally delivered to a neighbor who was vacationing and had a hold put on their mail. Neighbor was perplexed. She apologized for reading my postcard, but said it didn’t make much sense to her. I thanked her and went back to cleaning out my car.
