Time to put together a Halloween playlist!

Ol’ buddy Quasi started a similar threada couple years ago. He’s not been on the boards much lately, but that old thread got me thinking, and I’m hoping some new tunes can be added to the list. Quasi, if you’re reading this I hope we can give you some new ideas for your playlist this year.

I put together a Halloween playlist every year, plug the mp3 player into my car stereo and basically leave it on shuffle for three weeks. This year’s list has some old favorites, and some new discoveries. The list so far:

Flight of the Cosmic Hippo, Bela Fleck and the Flectones. This was used as the background music on a Halloween episode of Northern Exposure, and I’ve associated it with Halloween ever since.

Kashmir, Led Zeppelin. I heard a 15 second snip of this song when I was about 13, while scanning through radio stations on Halloween night. Not being a LZ fan, it was 15 years until I heard enough of the song to place it as Zeppelin and start searching. Finally found it a couple years ago.

Thriller, Michael Jackson

Ghostbusters, Ray Parker, Jr.

Evil Woman, Electric Light Orchestra

Somebody’s Watching Me, Rockwell
Bad Moon Rising, Creedence Clearwater Revival
Dreamtime, Daryl Hall
Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This), Eurythmics

So, what’s on your Halloween playlist this year?

Bauhaus-“Bela Lugosi’s Dead”

Concrete Blonde-“Bloodletting (The Vampire Song)”

Tony Lucca-“Devil Town”

DEAD MAN’S PARTY - OINGO BOINGO!

R.E.M.-“I Walked With a Zombie” (cover)

Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor”.

The D’Ampton Worm

I’m surprised this little-known number doesn’t get revived every October:

Here's another purple people-eater to rival the more well-known one:

A scary scenario (and a girl who knows what to do about it …):

Nice to have a teenage death song with a hopeful resolution:

My playlist is - most all of it? A whole lot, anyway. With just a couple cherry-picked albums worth from Nekromantix because all of theirs added would have made the list a few hours longer than the 15 hours it already is. I’m a little choosy, I still have to like it even if it’s a genre I don’t usually listen to.

One of my favorites is the “Summer Breeze” cover by Type O Negative.

I’ll be checking back, anyway, because you never know what someone will pull out that I don’t already have!

Hoodoo Gurus-“Dig It Up”

Hoodoo Gurus-“In The Echo Chamber”

The Cramps- “Surfin’ Dead”

The Cramps-“TV Set”

The Cramps-“Goo Goo Muck” (possibly NSFW images)

Bump - Here Come the Mummies

Flowers By the Door-- TSOL

Skulls-- The Misfits

Warren Zevon-“Roland The Headless Thompson Gunner”

Warren Zevon-“Werewolves of London”

Good username/post combo.

Thanks.

My Halloween playlist consists of about an hour of Tommy heavenly6.

Start with Halloween Addiction (the new song, Never Ending Party Night isn’t on Youtube, but Lollipop Candy♥BAD♥Girl and I’M YOUR DEVIL are).

Add Dark Dark Night (also not on YT), My Bloody Knee High Socks, Gothic Pink (both the original, and the Melancholic Guitar Version, and close out with the short versions of I’M YOUR DEVIL and Lollipop Candy.

Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain.

Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre.

Berlioz’ Symphonie fantastique.

Chopin’s “Funeral March” (Piano Sonata #2: 3rd movement).

Liszt’s Totentanz.

There’s a Frank Zappa song that was played on Halloween out here and the lyrics went:

Hobgoblin
Windy goblin
When she starts goblin I start wobblin.

It took me a while to know what the lyrics meant.

No one reccommended The Shags yet? Allow me.

The Who-Boris The Spider

Dracula Cha-cha-cha!
