I think it would just play an animation on the screen and act fairly simplistically.
The pictures you have provided are of two different products, it is the redesigned slim PS1 with the LCD screen attached, these were sold separately near the end of the PS1’s life cycle.
The LCD and speaker attachment was basically just a monitor, it allowed you to play games without a separate TV or monitor.
EDIT: DOH! Nevermind I just realized you mean, but I don’t think that GIF of the palm sized PS1 is real. I think it is fake sorry.
Quite a few years ago I had a Chinese “mp4” player that was a little bit bigger.
Here is that type of thing:
It didn’t play mp4’s but instead it played low-res videos (I can’t remember the type). It would be a little tricky to fake… I mean the screen is shaking a lot.
It is here - the group is supposedly for real world products - all of the others seem real.

BTW the video it plays is simplistic and has a low-res transition. It looks like the kind of video that those old “mp4” players would play. Also it has a realistic black border around the screen. If it was fake I thought they wouldn’t think of putting a black border around the screen. And I thought they’d use footage of a game or something.
It could be “real” in the sense it is an object that exists, but was never commercially produced or distributed.
