Titus on DVD: Missing Episodes?

So I got the DVD of seasons 1 & 2 of Titus the other day, and am laughing my ass off as I work my way through them.

No, not Titus.

I mean the sadly-cancelled dark humor TV comedy of Christopher Titus, the guy with the hotrod shop. He’s also a standup comedian in real life. I don’t think he’s actually got a hotrod shop.

Anyway, I noticed that episode eleven isn’t actually the eleventh episode on the disk. I mean, there’s an episode that’s actually called “Episode Eleven” and it’s only the ninth one on here.

And the episode creatively titled “Episode Twentyseven” is the 21st one!

What’s going on here?

My only guess is that they left a couple episodes out for some reason, or that they rearranged the episodes on the DVDs. My two guesses are there are missing episodes, rearranged episodes, or they’re just messing with my head… THREE guesses I have, and the number of my guesses is three… sorry, went a bit Python there. Won’t happen again.

Anybody know the story here?

By the way, this is a great show, and I strongly reccomend it for all screwed-up people. However, there’s already a thread about it here, so let’s please keep the discussion about the show itself, or Titus the comedian and related topics over there. Thanks.

That is odd. According to the production code (see the episode guide) it’s episode #8.

In the third season (out on DVD in January!), there’s an episode, “The Protector”, which was supposed to be the 7th show, but was not shown until after the season/series finale. References to this episode were made in later episodes and they make no sense because of this.

Television is weird. Television networks are weird, rather. They often show TV shows in an order that is different from the order in which the shows were originally produced.

Favorite example was from Star Trek: TNG. Denise Crosby left the show in the middle of the first season. The episode where she gets killed was not the last show she filmed. In that episode, you can see her near the end waving at the camera from the back of the scene.

I’m pretty sure in the “Dad’s dead” episode, they mention that Dad hasn’t been to the hospital since “the fellatio incident”. They then cut to the “Neutral Space” (the B&W room) with Titus saying “Episode 11!”. A cheap (though funny because of the delivery) tactic to keep interest in future episodes, maybe.

The episode titled “Episode 11” is the one where Papa Titus ended up in the hospital, where it turns out he got into a car accident not because he had a heart attack, but because of some “distraction” provided by a female companion. So the title refers more towards the reference that Titus made in the other episode, rather than it’s actual episode number. And I guess that the order episodes were aired didn’t really correspond to time passing within the fictional world.

Maybe they planned for that episode to actually be episode 11, but had some scripts that didn’t get shot / aired.

I don’t know if there was a similar “Episode 27!” mention. I may have to go back through my Titus DVDs.

Titus is out on DVD?

Damn…well, I know which one I’m getting next. Sometimes I thought I was the only person who liked that show.

I had a dad just like his, but sadly have yet to find a girlfriend like his.

You weren’t the only one! I was just wondering recently about it being out on DVD… I’ll have to keep my eyes open for it.
