This seems like a good place to voice my undying love for Veet sensitive skin depilitory lotion. At the very worst, once or twice I’ve left it on a minute or two too long and had minor chemical irritation that went away within a day.
And the benefits? No risk of nicks or cuts, no ballsack stretching tricks, less maneuvering to get at the even more TMI as yet unmentioned areas, a more thorough removal of all the hair, and generally a quicker easier process from beginning to end.
And far far less stubble/regrowth irritation in the days following.
Apparently, I’m one of the older gals here. Just turned 43 last week. I shave mine bald. More sanitary that way. I’ve been with my husband for 20 years. He doesn’t shave his, but it IS trimmed up real nice.
If you’ve been shaving your face for a few years, you shouldn’t have to worry about cutting yourself (I’ve never even once nicked my scrotum or penis).
Ah…but, if you do nick yourself, be advised that your clotting factor doesn’t kick in as well as on other parts of your body. Think of a facial nick that even a septic pencil won’t work on. (and don’t try using a septic pencil on your boys!) I damn near had to cancel a dinner date because of a nick. Not a heavy bleed like OHMYGOD…I’m gonna die!, but enough that holding a tissue on it wouldn’t work. And, no, a bandaid wouldn’t stay on either, because of the ‘moveable’ skin. Ended up packing tissues in my draws, and hoped I didn’t find a red mess at the next toilet break. Now I only shave when I ain’t going nowhere.
Married straight female. I’ve had a “landing strip” for a few years now. If I shave it all I think I look like a child, which creeps me out, so I leave a strip about 1" wide. I shave because it makes me feel cleaner, cuts down on the natural musk (which I don’t like) and makes sensations more intense, since they can be felt right on the skin.
I did it for the first time a few years ago totally on a whim. I think I even announced to my then-girlfriend, “You’ll never guess what I did!” before showing her. It was fun
I only get to see my current girlfriend every week or two, so we’ve kind of made an unofficial, undeclared game of it – you never know what you’re going to find! She has a lot more possibilities than I do – landing strip, heart, triangle, totally bare. I’d love to tell you my favorite, but it changes every time I see it. With me, it’s more of a binary thing: either I’ve done it, or I haven’t. Personally, I like the way I look (and feel) more when I have done it (my girlfriend has this same opinion), but it’s too much to keep up with when I only see her occasionally.
Variety, my friends. That’s the name of the game.
Oh, and I’ve never understood the “You look like a child!” thing either. She looks like my girlfriend, no matter what her styling is!
We tried the Veet, and we’re giving it 2 bums down.
My wife had less trouble than me. While it does remove hair better in the areas where it worked, it wasn’t as accurate as shaving – coverage not as complete.
Also, it was difficult to keep the stuff from getting on my thighs (from my nutsack). I don’t want to remove the hair from my inner thighs.
Neither of us cared for the irritation. I reckon we’re just old fashioned.
OK, so I used to shave regularly down there (yes, completely bald) till I noticed that I was putting waaaaaaay too much work in when I had nothing to shave for (I wasn’t sexually active or anything at the time). When I got with my current gf, I started completely shaving again, but realized that I was getting a greater number of ingrowns and stopped again.
WARNING: POSSIBLE TMI FOLLOWING!!!
Now, I’ve got these things on my pubic region that look like little tags?! Who the hell knows what they are, but I’m guessing they’re just ingrowns that I never got out or something. :dubious: They’re connected to the skin, and I’m really afraid to try and just pick them off (I picked one off, and it didn’t hurt as much as I thought it would, but it bled like a sonuvabitch). If anyone has this problem (condition?) please advise on the best course of action.
I’ve been wanting to post this for a loooooooooong time but I was way too embarrassed. Ah, the anonymity of the internet.
I shave completely. Previous BF mentioned he liked a bald kitty. I stay bald because I cant stand the in between stage. Current BF has no preference. Says he likes the kitty bald or he doesnt mind floss with his meal. I do like the way I feel straight after shaving in the shower. Right after I apply lotion. I’m a million times more sensitive. I see the BF only on weekends so I tend to try to shave right before he shows up.
The BF is 34/straight and he shaves bald as well. I prefer it that way. Besides men it makes ya look bigger… But mostly I just dont like to get hair in my mouth.
Currently I just shave around the edges. I’m considering trimming the rest down to keep things a little nicer, but I’ll never shave more than I already do–my pubes are rather coarse, and even the small amount of regrowth I have now tends to be a) unattractive and b) uncomfortable. Every once in a while I wish I could shave down completely, but it just wouldn’t be worth it.
I also really don’t feel like having that much more maintenance to do. I’m generally obsessive about hygiene, but I also try to keep the number of unnecessary regular chores down to a minimum–and frankly, I don’t see an unshaved crotch as being any more or less clean than a shaved one.
BF doesn’t do anything, nor has he ever expressed a preference with regards to my habits.
Update on the Veet. That stuff is evil. Later that night, it felt like someone had rubbed lye on my sack. I rinsed profusely in cold water again. That took care of it, til morning, when the burn was back with a vengeance.
So now the vote is, one bum down, one bum WAY DOWN!
I use a powder that you mix into a paste. Its ACTUAL use is for black men to use on their face, I guess it’s supposed to remove hair without leaving bumps.
Anyway, it has some pretty strong warnings on it about skin burns & such, but I have been using it for years with no trouble. No stubble, no razor burn and besty of all no worries about cuts & nicks.
I discovered this stuff when I worked with a black gentleman who had the most gorgeous smooth bald head. I asked him once if he shaved it and he told me about Magic powder. A lightbulb went off in my head and Ive been smooth ever since.
Having never discusses my pubic hair with my friends I had no idea if this was “normal” or not (being bald or trimmed that is). So when I met the man who is now my fiance I stopped & went hairy in fear that he would think me a freak when he discovered no hair down there. Farther into the relationship the topic came up and turned out he is a huge fan of smoothies! A huge relief for us both, as I could go back to what I feel is comfortable and clean and he, well he gets to see me the way he likes, bare.
DISCLAIMER
If you decide to try the Magic powder please do a patch test on a small area first. Like I said it has never cause me problems but I would hate to see anyone burn their naughty bits because of my suggestion.
I’m 23, female, mostly straight. I leave what’s in front pretty much alone, just an occasional trim so it doesn’t get out of hand, but I shave my pubes. That way I satisfy both practical and aesthetic concerns.
26/female/straight. I shave everything except for a little patch right above my clit. It may look a little weird (although I’ve never had any complaints!) but if I don’t leave that patch, things rub in a very uncomfortable way.
From the time I started getting pubic hair, I thought it was ugly and dirty. But I didn’t start trimming until I had a swimsuit that required it. That was itchy so I tried shaving a bit. And then a bit more. I stopped for a while when I was single, but then I found it was more work (and a lot more itching!) to stop for months and then start again so now I just keep it trimmed (and I’m not single anymore). And I really do just like the way it looks myself, regardless of what my bf thinks.
I don’t find it as difficult or dangerous as some of the other women here have mentioned. It’s probably about a 30 second process for me. Just zip-zip in the front and a couple swipes on the sides and I’m all good. I do it twice a week, though, so maybe that’s why it’s so much quicker and easier…?
