I keep seeing references to"TMI" in threads. I gather from the context that it means something disgusting, but the only guess I can make is “terribly manky information”.
Please enlighten…

Actually, it stands for Too Much Information.
I think TMI might mean “Too Much Information”…, someone else who truly is sure will come by and interpret it correctly;
Meanwhile - I got a giggle out of terribly manky information !

“Manky” - my dictionary gives “dirty” or “rotten”; I tend to think of it meaning vaguely squalid or tatty.
Come to think of it, Terribly Manky Information might make a decent username…
