I, for one, resent DrDeth’s implication that I’m somehow illiterate since I don’t care to read the books and would rather only watch the show.
I’ll have you know, I read Diary of a Wimpy Kid before the films came out.

From the Pit thread from 2 years ago that SenorBeef links to in post#34, these have got to be the most arrogant, repugnant, smug and self-congratulatory statements for reading one series of fantasy books:
And heres a perfectly pithy statement from Alessan which should shut the trap of any reasonablely modest person:
But no, DrDeth just continues with this drivel.
OK, find me a spoiler I posted in any GoT thread where **SenorBeef *was the OP. It’s never happened. (there was one started by another poster, where he didnt specify the SenorBeef rules, and I did make a casual mention of the books) .
Even SenorBeef just posted *“To DrDeth’s credit, he seems to have accepted the rules and hasn’t tried to push the edge from within the threads themselves for a long time.” *
So, yes, I cop to dogged determination- perhaps too much.:smack: But it’s been in the PIT and ATMB, not in the SenorBeef GoT threads in CS.
I see SenorBeef’s concern for the first. It could happen, but I expect the Mods will be watching for such obvious jerkishness. I do ask, if that occurs- hit the **Report this Post **button, dont Junior Mod. If I see it happen, I will report it myself. Mind you a gentle reminder about the thread rules is not the same as Junior Modding and the line is pretty fine.
And the Junior Modding has been rampant in your threads, which is one reason why they have not been successful in “keeping the peace”. Innocent mistakes have been made by people who dont know better, but then the shitstorm has gone on for far too long, effectively hijacking and ending any peaceful discussion.
I appreciate that you mention I have not been dropping spoilers in your threads, Senor. Others seem to think that just because I have fought this battle in the trenches of ATMB, I was also responsible for much of the book spoilers dropped. That is not true.
Hmm, yes, I can see that happening. But so? Like you have said- anyone can start any GoT threads they want to with any rules. There is already a Book and Open spoilers thread.
If someone does start a weekly episode thread and sez:"Okay, OP here, rules are off! " then I hope you counter with you usual weekly thread. While I dont like the special rules for your threads, I do appreciate the labor and diligence in your posting. Again, thank you for doing those. However, I also would expect that if someone does start a weekly episode thread and sez:"Okay, OP here, rules are off! "- then they NEED to put **SPOILERS! **in the title.
And here is where the dingeniousness lies. SenorBeef and the rest of the people who vastly prefer the modified GoT guidelines aren’t suggesting that mentions of the book are spoilers, but merely one of the primary underlying causes of hijacks and, ultimately, lead to the posting of spoilers. But you knew this. You knew this last year, the year before that, and the year before that. I don’t give a shit whether or not you’ve posted spoilers (for the purposes of this thread, of course) - I haven’t made any claim that you have. Maybe try reading a little closer for comprehension.
Just curious, but how the fuck is that NOT a spoiler? That’s basically all but saying, “Oh hey, dude’s going to totally bite it.”
Did you read the post including the quotes? It is a spoiler, or if meant to be misleading, then just jerkish behavior. My point in this instance is that DrDeth brought that up as an example in this thread about what is clearly inappropriate in the show discussion thread, and yet in a previous thread (years ago), he used that very same thing, almost verbatim, as the exact opposite - an example of where people who want book discussion out of the threads are going crazy over what he called a non-spoiler. What was once his evidence that everyone in the show-discussion threads is over the top crazy overreacting to any hint of spoiler is now what he uses as an example of jerkish behavior.
I was pointing out that this sort of inconsistency - what seems an obvious spoiler to some people strikes others as being ridiculous to get worked up over - is exactly the sort of thing that starts hijacks in these threads. That’s why “books do not exist” is a much clearer rule that leads to less fighting than “I think this book information is okay, and if anyone feels spoiled by what I wrote, screw them, let’s fight about it”
As Munch points out, the main problem in those threads wasn’t so much the massive spoilers being dropped - that was pretty rare - but the constant fighting over what constitutes a hint, a spoiler, background information, what’s too revealing, etc. Whenever we have a soft “the poster can decide what book information is appropriate” rules, then half the thread is spent fighting about those rules.
“Books do not exist”, in comparison, are about 1-2% fighting. Usually once there’s an infraction early in the season, I call someone out on it, and then it tends to disappear for the rest of the season. DrDeth seems to imply that we still have all sorts of fighting and junior modding going on, but look through the threads from last season - almost none of that. We’re all pretty much on the same page.
I’m tired of having people reporting posts in this excruciating thread and having to read it once again. There being no unresolved issues of board policy that I can detect, thread closed.
