So with many people catching up on series on DVR or Netflix long after the season is over is it better to find the last thread on the show or open a new one? I’m not talking about a show from years ago like if I just watched the X Files for the first time. I’m talking about watching The Following from last Spring.
I think it depends on a few things. But mainly I’d base it off of thread length. If it’s a 5 page thread, maybe copy the link, start a new thread, and start your OP with “here’s a link to the thread from last year, but I wanted to start a fresh thread to see if anyone picked this up on Netflix…”. If it’s a thread with 25 replies, I’d just bump it, and make a quick note at the start of your post acknowledging the zombie in the room.
Try not to respond directly to, or question, another poster that may have moved to other subjects or message boards(or just “moved on”).
I figured that wouldn’t be a problem with a show that had its last episode of the season 6 months ago.
You’d think that…but I’ve seen posters try to argue in threads that stopped just a half year or so back, and the person they are trying to argue with has a big “BANNED” label under the name. Some people are just signage-proof, I guess.
As a Cafe Society mod, I think Munch’s solution is a good one. If it’s a substantial thread, link but start a new one; if it’s not very long, go ahead and bump.
I agree with this. BUT, if you’re only half way through a series when everyone else has finished, I’d start a new thread stating as much. That way you wont stumble across any unintended spoilers.
Good point!
I’ve asked myself this question because I don’t have cable and I’m constantly a season behind on certain shows. I’ve just resigned to the fact that one of the downsides to watching late is I don’t participate in these old discussions. I still read the old threads, though, because I like considering other points of view or being clued in on things I might have missed.
Thanks. I’ll get around to posting it eventually.
Maybe that’s why my DVR is always over 95% full.
