Mr. President, we must not allow a movie reel gap!
Im talking about the chines government, not the chinese or Taiwan people. At least in my country, we get chinese cyber attacks from time to time. China is supporting Russia in the attack against Ukraine, so yes, i would call them our enemy.
And yet you said;
Not “China” or “the government of the PRC” or even “the CCP” - the Chinese.
Just to play Devil’s advocate here: in the various threads on the invasion of Ukraine, the term “Russians” is used regularly to refer to either the Russian government or the Russian military. How is that any different?
Most practically, recognizing their longstanding ethno-nationalistic agenda. They were called “Russians” even back when they were the USSR, because Russia and the Russians were the ones in charge. That’s a major part of their invasion of Ukraine, even.
The problem with the OP isn’t using the term “Chinese”, it’s not even mentioning the government until other posters pestered it out of them, and the weird insistence on not capitalizing the word. People say “Russian”, true; but they also say “Putin” or “the Kremlin”. And they capitalize it.
I apologiza for not being clear in my post. Yes i meant china
You meant porcelain or ceramic dinnerware?
Weird.
For God’s sake, man, use capital letters!
I thought you are Scandinavian, not Basque.
No, you silly goose, the Basque don’t even put barcodes on their warships!
False. The rules only say that Canadian broadcasters, including cable providers, must have a specified amount of Canadian content. For individual productions, like a film being made in Canada, Canadian content rules only apply if the production is seeking a tax credit.
Yes, it’s different. A nation’s military is presumed to be acting under orders from the government, and any major actions it takes in wartime can be assumed to be either ordered by the government or, at least, tolerated by it.
So it’s OK to refer to the people invading Ukraine as “the Russians”, even though there are many Russians who have not invaded Ukraine - including many ethnic Russians who do not live in Russia at all?
Was it OK for the British in WWII to refer to their existential threat as “the Germans”, even though many Germans weren’t in the armed forces or weren’t even living in Germany? Sometimes, especially when reporting the news from a war zone, succinctness is much more important than political correctness.
Reminds me of the poem The Purist, by Ogden Nash:
I give you now Professor Twist,
A conscientious scientist,
Trustees exclaimed, “He never bungles!”
And sent him off to distant jungles.
Camped on a tropic riverside,
One day he missed his loving bride.
She had, the guide informed him later,
Been eaten by an alligator.
Professor Twist could not but smile.
“You mean,” he said, “a crocodile.”
Hollywood was taken over by money decades ago. It’s really no more complicated than that.
So… because you don’t like your sister-in-law you hate everyone Chinese or of Chinese descent? Wow.
Also - the reason for capitalizing is because in English “China” is a country. “china” is the plate you eat off of during mealtime.
So…
Translates to: “I have no respect for my plate”
This has been alluded to numerous times in this thread. It makes nonsense out of your words. Now, given that you are “Scandinavian” (unspecified beyond that) perhaps English is not your first language and you are unaware of how this sounds. And, given the context, we can guess what you actually mean but it is an obstacle to communication.
My wish is that you use proper capitalization.
Yeah, the Chinese government does that (or at least attempts it) on a fairly regular basis over here, too. Also, they sell us substandard crap, and can’t seem to keep toxic substances out of their food chain.
However, the people I know of Chinese descent are not guilty of those things.
Holding everyone of Chinese ancestry guilty of the mis-doings of the government of the Peoples’ Republic of China is racism.
Yeah, because about 10% of the US population is of “East Asian” descent and we’ve worked hard to eliminate prior bullshit racism in our nation that prevented them from achieving on merit. That “upsurge” is them finally getting recognition for their talent and hard work. Asian-Americans are just as American as Euro-Americans.
I realize it was a departure from the games, and probably so they could get the show shown in China, but I’m actually OK with that in this case. The focus of the story here was not how the war started but that it happened and created the Wasteland. Frankly, post-apocalyptic tales springing from the aftermath of a global war can get rapidly dated by being too specific in regards to who started it.
If it means that Bowen Yang and Michelle Yeoh keep getting work then I’m all for it.
What does Messina have to say about all this? Does he share these Concerns?
You guys don’t understand the true nature of war. Sometimes you have to do things that you would normally consider wrong.
So when the enemy makes a movie, you have to retaliate by not capitalizing the name.
Then afterwards, you have to learn how to live with what you’ve done.
Or you go in the other direction, and end up speaking German. It’s a slippery slope.
Mein Luftkissenfahrzeug ist voller Aale.
Loggins used “chinese” because he’s too stupid to spell “Jews”.
But, he’ll be doing the old Pogrom next week.
