Tommy and Bonnie (a story of a boy and his dog)

VunderWife actually let me ride my bike to work today, instead of whining about it being too hot for me to be outside.

Okay, you went to a German restaurant to eat chicken cordon bleu? That’s not German. You could have had jager schnitzel or wiener schnitzel or sauerbraten or rouladin or any number of different kinds of sausages. You could have had spaetzle or potato dumplings or bread dumplings too! I just don’t get it.
One of my favorite German restaurants also serves wild game. You just haven’t eaten good venison or bear until you’ve eaten it there. It is YUMMY!

I grew up eating and making this stuff. My mother is from Germany and I lived in Germany for three years myself. I don’t really make any of that anymore. I don’t know why. I even own a spaetzle press. Maybe I’ll make some German food again soon.

Swampbear, is that the one with lettuce, peas, bacon, Swiss cheese, egg, mayo, and green onion?

Supposed to be for Christmas this year. Looks good from the previews and interviews with the developers. Have you discovered the wonders of Double Your Pleasure yet? If not, these are really good Civ mods that really expand on the game. (I started a standard Civ 3 game after playing DYP for a while, opened the tech tree and had a WTF? What happend to all the advances? moment.) A lot of the DYP ideas have been incorporated in later versions of the standard game.

Your cats are always pointing and laughing, well except when they’re asleep, so maybe they’re only pointing and laughing two hours a day… Anyway, my point is that it’s nothing specific like being plumbing-disabled, they do it 'cause they’re cats. And you’re not. And you never catch them at it.

I’ve been thinking of replacing my shower/tub plumbing for a while. I had to replace one of the taps a while ago, and couldn’t find a match for the old one that would fit on the 40-year-old original fitting, so the taps don’t match now. I’d like to rip it all out and put in new taps, tub spout, shower fittings and all. I’m a mean hand with a propane torch and solder, so that doesn’t faze me, but I’ll need to rip out the wall in the bedroom closet to get at it all from behind, and I hate drywalling. Maybe I’ll just put in a removeable panel, so it’s easy to get at for any repairs or future changes.

Mmmmm, sauerbraten, and spaetzle, and goulash (I know it’s not German, but the first time I had real goulash was in an inn in the Black Forest over spaetzle, so it’s permanently linked with German food for me).

Bookie (that’s your nickname now, I just decided on it) that’d be the seven layer salad of which I speak cept I use cheddar instead of swiss cause I like cheddar better.

I’m eatin’ a quarter pounder with cheese. It’s good. Speaking of MickeyD’s, where the heck is donkey this week? I wonder if he’s getting hisself all ready for school. It’s about that time, I think.

Oh goodie, I get to make a cooking hijack!

Swampy, with the SLS, have you ever considered leaving out the cheese, and topping it with bleu cheese dressing instead of mayo/Miracle Whip? I’ve considered it, but never tried it. I realize that it wouldn’t be for the faint of heart, because blue cheese is a love it or hate it item…

A pet peeve of mine is a salad with shredded cheese in it, and bleu cheese dressing on top. The combo is sorta redundant…

Bobbio it sounds intriguing. ACBG and I would like it cause we both like bleu cheese. I think bleu cheese crumbles in the salad would be good too. I feel an experiment coming on real soon.

I never use Miracle Whip (GAG!) That stuff is satan’s underarm deodorant.

I’m playing Civ !!: Play The World. I likes it. Just recently figured out how to have a multiplayer game without going online, so that I have a couple of countries against a couple the AI runs.

Taters as for the German food, I am very much a non-spicy food person. A lot of the snitzels and brauts at this restaurant are just too spicy for me. And their spaetzle is just … odd. Everyone gets a funny look on their face when they eat it. In my defense, the ham in the cordon bleu was Bavarian Ham. And I did have the Landjager as an appetizer.

I opened the house on Monday - it’s been no a/c and open windows since then. I was actually cold when I woke up this morning - it was 59 degrees!

I figure I can make it till Saturday before I have to close ‘em down again. Yeah, I’m lovin’ the cool!

Fortunately, it didn’t bite, so I’m good to go. But I could let my spousal unit check me over thoroughly, just in case - he’d enjoy that…

Well, somebody came in and did something to my shower, because when I came home from work, I found a nice clump of ick in the sink waiting for me. The shower seems to be draining a little faster, but there’s still water poolage. I don’t know. Maybe I have unreasonable shower expectations.

Sean, I didn’t mean to sound like I was hassling you or anything. I don’t find German food spicy, but if the sausages are homemade, I suppose they can be. I guess I’ve been lucky in the spaetzle department too. However, the boxed spaetzle made by Knorr can taste very strange. Maybe they use that.

I guess the hubby and I are going to Best Buy to look at TVs. No, I really don’t want one, but he does, so we’ll go…sigh.

**Sean, ** the hubby has played various iterations of Civ. I’m not sure which ones he has now. Lately, he’s been playing Dungeon Siege 2 and we still play World of WarCraft. Do you play any of those games?

Well, I think I’m going to change clothes. I looked down at my slacks today and they are hanging rather too loosely on me. I guess this is a good thing, but all the same, I wish the fact that I was shrinking and need new clothes could have waited until I bought the kids their school clothes and supplies.

Will you people stop talking about ticks and sandflies!!! It’s scaring people away!! I think we’re going to need some bug spray in here any minute now…

I like the idea of 7-layer salad with bleu cheese…hmmmm.

Draelin - the standard shower kind of sprinkles water on you and then the water runs down the drain. No poolage involved. I’ve only lived in 7 different places, but I’ve visited quite a few others and this pattern has been really consistent. Maybe your apartment management needs to get out more?

Nothing fascinating here tonight. I’m toying with either reading or watching a movie. Maybe I’ll decide soon.

Yes! Someone noticed. It took 4 pages, though. I think that without swampy here, I wasn’t posting as much in the MMP. Or something like that.

Anyways, yes, lots of schooling. Actually, in the last two days, I’ve only had 5 classes. Schedule goes:

MWF: Physics
TR: French I and Spanish I
MTWRF Calc II
Whenever I feel like it: Independent Study German

It isn’t too bad… I’m trying to get my GPA up this semester.

However, as a direct result of not posting in the MMP, I have missed out on a bunch of stuff, including the information that I need to keep ticks away from swampy.

donkey good idea on finding out how to keep ticks away from me. Since you’re lurking in the bushes anyways you can look for ticks and shoo em away. Or, maybe put up a NO TICKS ALLOWED sign in the yard. Bet that’d scare em away.

I walked outside when I got up this morning and actually felt a little tinge of a chill. It’s definitely cooler, only high 60’s over night! Why it’s practically winter! Looks like we’re gonna get a lot of rain and wind outta ol’ Hurricane What’sit (Katrina! That’s it!) Sunday and Monday. I’m monitoring NOAA’s site for predictions. I may decide to close the shop Monday as a precaution cause they are talking about low level areas flooding and such and this is a low level area. That’s the kind of executive decision makin’ I get to do. Impressive ain’t it?

How many different deodorants does Satan use? And where all would he put them other than underhis arms? Actually, I’d figure Satan would use an odorant of some kind.

Good news on the school front: Soupo went without a hitch yesterday and had a good time. I even remmebered to go and pick him up at the end of the day.

Katcha starts Kindergarten Monday. The Little Woman is going to be a trainwreck.

You know, I was pretty sure that’s how it’s supposed to work, too. Between the ages of 19 and 23, I moved eight times. All those places had showers that work like you suggested they should. Last night I tried to put on my new shiny shower head. And it doesn’t fit. Stoopit shower head.

This morning, the apartment super stopped me as I was loading eighty pounds of candles in my car to reiterate that I need to get some sort of device to keep my hair from going down the drain, because it’s definitely my fault. (And no, he didn’t offer to help the five-foot-nothing little woman with the eighty pounds of candles. He even kinda prevented me from getting to my car, so I had to stand there holding them. Yeah, I’m pretty diesel.) I wash my hands of the whole thing. I’m hoping to move at the beginning of next year, anyhow.

Maybe that bathroom will let me use my thirty-dollar shower head.

No sweat.

As for the games, I tried getting into WoW when it opened up to the rest of the world last year, but my rig at home didn’t have the graphics capability for it. And I never upgraded to something that would. I don’t play a lot of games on the computer. Just Civ and Free Cell. With Free Cell, I started at the very last game, and I’ve been working my way backward, not moving on to the next before I finish the one I’m on. (With two exceptions.) I’m down around # 998,000 now.

I was watching the Weather Channel last night to see that nutjob Jim Cattore stand in the path of the storm down in Florida. (He did, in Lauderdale). But I heard something that I should have thought of: the anchorman made a comment about this being the real Katrina and The Waves. I should have thought of that.

That man is insane. I love watching him stand in a hurricane and point at where the roofs (rooves?) are being ripped off houses like “Hey, check that out! That’s so cool!”

And yes, you should have thought of that.

Cooler here as well…only in the 80s. We got nuthin from lil old Katrina. They keep saying we might get some squalls today but I’ll be surprised. Looks like the panhandle will take the brunt once again. They’ve had their share.

Granite measurers coming this morning to measure for the countertops. Mr. Anachi will be home for this one. I foresee PITA.

I have a hand-held massage shower. I particularly like it cause it makes cleaning easier. I can scrub tile and glass and rinse off one, two, three!!!

That’s all I got for now.

Tupug

Drae, can I get you to help me move my barbells and a couple of engine blocks to the attic?
