Why is it OK for Shodan to infer that I be locked up and / or hung with all of my treasonous cohorts for rebelling against the government, but for me to use allegory to compare that action to the Nazis locking up and / or killing their political enemies worthy of a stern mod warning?
It seems to me **Shodan ** was inferring that I would be one of the ones pitched into prison or hanged for rebelling, and that I would be a ‘good riddance.’

I am not adverse to apologizing if I stepped over the line, as shown by my posting history. But I honestly do not understand why my behavior was worthy of a warning but Shodan gets a pass. I also do not understand why my behavior stepped over the line in the first place. I did not personally insult Shodan, nor did I wish death on anyone except possibly myself. I was on topic for the discussion, and did not even use profanity.
Well, Shodan just said that anyone rebelling against the government would be committing treason, and that it would be good riddence to throw people who would do that into prison or hang them (and he’s got the law on his side there…taking up arms against the US is treason which is a crime and can be punishible by death. He didn’t even say you would rebel against the government…just that rebels should be thrown in jail or executed.
You, on the other hand, said that he and his ilk were going to start up the trains and ovens for those who disagreed with him. In other words, you pretty much specificially called him a Nazi.
Do you see the difference between, “People who rebel should be punished” and “You’re a Nazi”?

You have changed the tone from one of a hypothetical rebellion by the disaffected and the probable response by the citizens of that hypothetical situation to a direct question regarding when Shodan and his compatriots intend to carry out an already agreed upon plan of extermination with an allusion taken directly from the Nazi massacres.
I doubt that you thought long and hard about the best way to insult Shodan and suspect that you simply reacted in the heat of the debate, but you did step over the line for GD posts.
GomiBoy, you should try to avoid emotional replies when dealing with posters like Shodan. He deals in insect politics. Once you engage on his level, you can’t win the debate unless you are willing to suspend your humanity.
IMO (and I say this from experience), it’s not worth it. I pity those who succumb to it (including Shodan). People like this need to believe in what they defend, right or wrong. They’re invested.
Unfortunately, like the difference between eggs and bacon, the lives their beliefs put at stake are not just invested, they’re committed ( ie, the difference between chickens and pigs).
Choose your battles more carefully (a lesson I’m still trying to master myself).
I did not intend to insult Shodan personally, as i actually kind of respect him and his views whilst disagreeing.
I did intend to draw a parallel between his suggestion that rebels be jailed / hung with the Nazis, as I apparently misunderstood his comments. I understood him to be telling me that I would be jailed and / or hung for rebelling against the government, and that it would be ‘a good riddance’ if this happened, and responded in kind. If this stepped over the line for GD, then I apologize.
