See, now, that’s just effed up!
** looks at Mr. D’s time stamp **
My God, man, are you an insomniac or just in some exotic time zone?

IIRC, Mr. Dibble lives in South Africa.
It is supposed to reach 38C with humidity pushing that to feel like 44C here in Toronto.
That’s 100 F and 111 F, respectively.
Too damn hot.
How do you get your update alerts? I have mine as emails, which means when a new post comes in, the post is included with the email. That way, I just look for that specific post, so if it appears at the top of a new page, I know I don’t have to click back. :science:
You know, if everyone else who’d had small things stolen had reported them, the thief might have been caught by now and your stuff would have been left alone. Couldn’t hurt to just call in and explain that you don’t want to spend a lot of time filling in forms, but you wanted to alert them to the theft.
Side note: Could have been TSA and not a baggage handler.
Freaks. All of you.
Honestly, what’s the point of living in the frozen tundra wasteland that is Canada unless you don’t also have to deal with ridiculous heat waves?
Which is a perfectly normal timezone, it’s y’all who are in weird places (says the Spaniard).
Really. 3 goddamn weeks of we love you, you are perfect for the job, we just need to get you in to meet with the partners in that group, we don’t want to waste your time so we will only bring you in when we can get them all together at once…
Then today - we’ve decided to leave the position unfilled. Thanks.
Er. Yes, I suppose that would work. <slinks away>
Good grief. I just checked the cooling tower water temperature – that’s the cooling water supply which is supposed to prevent all our chemical reactions from getting too hot and going boom.
It’s running 37°C. That’s 98.6°F.
That’s almost steam. Our cooling water supply is, in fact, heating up the chemical processes it’s supposed to be cooling down.
This is not good, no.
Side note: People from Spain get the best suffix in English to describe their nationality. -An, -ish, -ese: boring. -Iard: awesome.
:smack:
It’s not foolproof–my own peeve is when the link in the email sends me to the top of a page that does not contain the new post from the email. 99% of the time, that means that the new post (which I already read or skimmed in the email) was just the last post on the previous page. But I still have to click back to make sure… and then swear because I wasted three seconds because there was nothing else new.
Eesh. Good thing you checked, eh? I’m surprised a system like this doesn’t have automatic alarms. Heck, our data room has temperature alarms, and frying a server would just mean lost data (which is backed up, anyway).
Time to dig a 50 foot deep hole for that cooling water supply? Get it down around the ground temp constant.
It does have controls that automatically put the process into “hold”. But lots of things can put the process into “hold”, so I got a hey-chemist-explain-this message. And, yikes.
Fortunately, I remembered that today is safety meeting day for that process unit, so they’re not running now anyway. But it’ll make a nice topic to discuss at the safety meeting… and at our process hazard review next week.
But even so, didn’t need that extra moment of sweating today!
edit: 50-ft hole here would be in the Mississippi – we’re on the floodplain. Digging holes either leads to sinkholes or hidden streams and flooding.
Remember when I said we have nice cool evenings here, good for sleeping? My furnace was on this morning.
Can we please just build a pipe between our homes?
Jebus. My condolences.
How old is your niece? It sounds like she’s saying she’s hungry to stay up.
Any way you could just let her have her tantrum in bed? At my house, the rule is, “I can’t make you go to sleep, but I can make you stay in bed.” If she’s going to throw a fit, she might as well throw it there.
It is 98 with a heat index of 112 in Dearborn, Mich. In case your geography is weak, that is the north. It is not done yet. It is supposed to break 100.
Look, I get that it’s hot.
I get that you think that flip-flops are comfy and all.
But if your toe-nails are long enough to stab people with, please do not wear them.
I’m on my way.
It’s 95F here, with THE GOD-AWFUL HUMIDITY, the heat index is 116F.
Yep. Looks like we’ve had our two nights of summer.
Get any of that hail?
It’s in the low 70s again, with rain. Yesterday, the weather gods trolled us, as it was so nice I actually wore shorts. I thought Summer had finally arrived.
