Yes…speaking from personal experience, even if you’re sure your family is committed to your wishes, make sure you have a legal DNR in order. Don’t leave it on your family’s shoulders to decide whether or not it’s your time. Feeling like you’ve killed your mother or father or spouse isn’t something you shake off quickly, if at all. I still have guilty feelings sometimes over my mother.
Another thing with this, which may be just a California thing I don’t know - my father in law had a DNR, but because he was transported to the hospital by ambulance for some reason they couldn’t respect his wishes without, essentially, requiring his children to demand he be killed. It was extremely sad.
The fall season cannot come fast enough. I’m going batty every few days, looking at the calendar and thinking, “It’s still July??!?!?!”
It’s not even the heat. Sure, it was 105 last Friday, but it’s back to the high 80s today and I’m not suffering in my A/Ced office and home. It’s just the idea of fall: cool weather, rain, apple-picking, wearing sweaters, the night getting dark earlier. I’m seriously pining here; I feel an ache when I think about it finally being October. Gah.
I’m with you gallows. I adore the fall. It’s strange the way my mind works. To me, the fall is the start of the school year. It’s the start of everything. I feel like it’s my New Year. What’s funny about it is that I haven’t stopped going to school since last fall. This fall is the start of nothing. I passed a grade level in the spring and I’ve been in classes all summer as well. But, the fall is still the start dammit!
Progress Energy, your website SUCKS. All I want to do is pay my bill online. Apparently you have my account linked to someone else’s email (possibly my former deadbeat roommate’s) and I can’t find a way to change it. Now I remember why this is the only bill I pay in person. Which I can’t do this month because I can’t find my goddamn paper bill. It’s not where I left it and it’s due by Friday.
Here’s hoping I can pay it if I have the account number and PIN and cash in hand.
My understanding of it - and Googling “DNR and calling an ambulance” seems to support this - is that if you’re calling an ambulance, they have to, or nearly always will try to, do everything to try to resuscitate that person, especially if a family member requests it at the time. Plus it seems like DNR orders have greater “power” when the person is currently an inpatient, and there are more ways to override it when they aren’t in the hospital.
God, my local library sucks! The whole damn system sucks! The tiny single-branch library in my hometown is better than this multi-branch pile of fail we have here…
My local library is awesome (and a nice walk away from my house). My sympathies, jayjay.
Poor kitty - had to go to the vet today because she was starting to pee inappropriately. Ride in the car in a kitty carrier, blood draw, urine draw, temperature taken - it must have been the worst day of her life. We’ll find out tomorrow (hopefully) if there’s a medical reason for the peeing; other than that, she’ll probably have to go in for a teeth cleaning and extraction. Then THAT will be the worst day of her life.
One good thing about the extended heat wave - this already feels like a loooong summer. I’ll have that to keep in mind if I later start feeling like fall’s coming too quickly.
Why is it that every time I have any issue with my phone and take it in to the service center, they automatically guess that it’s water damage? You don’t even know what’s wrong with it, asshole! The water indicator is completely unchanged! It’s not water damage!! I asked the girl today if they train them and pay them extra to say the words ‘water damage’. She says no but I think maybe they do.
By the way, it was NOT water damage! It was the charger!
I don’t have health insurance, but I’m pretty sure this giant rash that began developing over the weekend is lyme disease. It’s not a bulls-eye (yet) but I have had all the other early-stage symptoms in the past five days. Awesome. I can’t wait to go to the lowest-priced area ER and get it looked at tomorrow.
Ugh, I had an experience like this. I had a cheapo LG phone for about a year and then 3 weeks out of warranty, one of the hinges snapped. I took it into the Verizon store and the guy just would not listen to me when I told him it had happened out of the blue. He kept trying to upsell me insurance on the replacement so that “when you drop it again” it would be covered. I didn’t drop the phone the first time, asshole! It was defective! I googled the model before taking it in and it was a widely reported issue with crappy plastic in the right hinge.
The only cell company I’ve ever had a good customer service experience with was T-Mobile. My phone wouldn’t charge and the very kind, apologetic guy on the phone told me to take it into the store. I explained the problem, they did a quick test with their own store charger and instantly decided the charging port on the phone was broken. Didn’t ask or check for water damage or anything. They told me they would send me a new phone in the mail and gave me a fully charged battery so my dud phone was functional in the interim. I should switch back.
The mini-est of mini rants. I had finally figured out how to make PowerPoint do what I wanted it to do - but not yet saved my work - and now it’s decided to stop responding. Do you think that’s because I named my file “stupid charts”?
Yes, but I don’t have a particular date in mind. I want to have the entire sasquatch storyline drawn and in the can before I put up any more strips… If I start it up again and then drop out before the arc is finished, my two remaining fans would surely kill me until I was dead. I’ll make a post in MPSIMS when I do.
