Too Proud to Die - the Fighting Ignorants

Looters in a burial ground definitely gets my attention. I would like to go and reconsecrate the place.

“Have people no decency? It’s bad enough these chaotic times we’re in have driven people to crime, but now they’re losing respect for the dead. I would very much like to see this place and return this unfortunate soul to a good and proper resting place.”

You didn’t list it among my assests.

I’ll learn charm person then.

Sorry, too preoccupied with the good stuff. You learn charm person with no difficulty and should add read magic to your starter set. Suggest we keep this to the setup thread in future though.

“What, no rats in a basement to kill?” Melon approaches the travelers that the group had escorted and requests timely payment as well as whatever other donations they can offer to the church of His Noodliness.

Our guide wouldn’t happen to be an attractive female, would it?

Meh. I’m down either way. Sometimes graveyards have goodies!

Hey Toejam, let’s go explore around town some more.

Can’t go out today, I’ve gotta Study these spells, my devious friend. Though if you find the name of a good Poisonist or an Alchemist, that’d actually do some good for me, and I might try to help you one of these days in your myriad of useless travails. Now then, back to my studying!

I’ll take a look.

Hey fighter, you wanna come with?

You get paid - a gold piece a head as well as last night’s bar tab. Despite your cynical unconcern for the mortal remains of the toasty-footed one, the wagonmaster picks up your tab to mark the slaying of your first goblins, since you seem to have let slip it was the first serious fight you ever won.

Your guide will be male, and if you care what he looks like, he’s slightly above average in appearance. He goes by the name of Trotman, and makes a living as a huntsman. He hopes none of you minds marshy country or some of the nasty critters you occasionally find there.

Rodents of unusual size? I don’t think they exist.

I’ll go with Auto to explore the town until we leave for the graveyard. I don’t have much money so I’ll be looking for anything I can do along the way to get a little coin.

“Let’s do it I’m tired of sitting around this rat trap. Maybe we can find something interesting to do. Don’t leave without us though I want to finally see some action.”

I’ll thank the wagonmaster for covering my tab, and prepare to roll out with Trotman.

“Man… it feels like I’ve been studying this spell for days! Oh well, back to it. M-a-g-i-c-k M-i-s-s-uh… Hmm… let me check my notes”

Another day later, and it is definitely damp and drizzly. Trotman advises you that the journey will take in some boggy country within a couple of hours’ march from here. “There’s no help for it,” he says. “The marsh is fed from the north-east by a river that cuts through a dangerous gully, and drains through a wide, slow river that’s too deep to ford safely. You’d have to go well up into the hills to cross the river where it was narrow, and there are too many of the giants’ little friends up that way, so you’d need another guide too.”

Spellcasters, please notify me of your spell selections

Trotman carries a longbow of ordinary quality, and a knife that makes you slightly worried over who it’s been in. He’s dressed in hunting gear including a cuirass well studded with iron. Autolycus, those rations of yours are getting kinda whiffy.

I’m not sure on how spells work for clerics in this edition (can I swap out spells for healing on the fly like in 3 and 3.5?)… I’ll just ready a healing spell if I can.

“Damn, Auto, we sure spent a long time exploring the town, I’m glad everyone is feeling better though. I sure don’t remember much of our wanderings though. Well, off we go into the wild wet yonder.”

“Yeah Ore, it sure was fun. Next time though, let’s not see the donkey show.”

“I blacked that out but I kind of wondering why I am so sore.”

Barring unusual circumstances, you can’t drop prepared spells for spontaneous cures, so if you want to be able to cast a cure you have to have it ready.

A passing local starts at this, and gives you a very fishy look before going on his way.

I’ll fall in behind Trotman and try to watch how he picks routes through muddy and boggy areas, tracks things, and watches wildlife- maybe I can learn something.
