2 Shrek the Third
6 I Am Legend
8 300
11 Alvin and the Chipmunks
12 National Treasure: Book of Secrets
13 Wild Hogs
14 Knocked Up
15 Rush Hour 3
17 Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
18 American Gangster
I’m not surprised about any of them. I choose to not see particular movies very carefully. I also choose which I’ll wait for DVD carefully. I only saw five movies in the cinema last year, the rest I saw on DVD, but the only one of the above 10 I plan to do that for is I Am Legend.
I decided that I wasn’t going to watch anything that was a sequel of a sequel this year, as I predicted they’d all suck. This meant I missed, well, basically every movie this summer. POTC 3, Spiderman, Shrek, Oceans 13, Resident Evil, Bourne, HP, etc.
So far, no ones said anything about any of these films that’s made me think this is a bad system.
i just don’t seem to be arsed to catch popular flicks any more; I’ve only seen two of the films in the top ten, and a mere seven of the top 100. Here are my top ten no-sees:
1 Spider-Man 3
2 Shrek the Third
4 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
5 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
7 The Bourne Ultimatum
8 300
9 Ratatouille
10 The Simpsons Movie
11 Alvin and the Chipmunks
12 National Treasure: Book of Secrets
With that said, looking down the list, there really are very few popular films from the previous year that I actually would feel like seeing on a big screen. Of the ten above, the only ones I’m likely to eventually check out at some point are Spidey 3, Ratatouille, and The Simpsons Movie.
Seriously, I don’t know. I probably had it about top 5 this year, and that would probably put it in my top 100 all time because I only have about 10 movies that predate 1970 on that list.
It’s probably top 3 on my animated movie list (or would be if I had one). That’s gotta count for something.
1 Spider-Man 3
2 Shrek the Third
3 Transformers
4 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
5 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
6 I Am Legend
7 The Bourne Ultimatum
8 300
9 Ratatouille
11 Alvin and the Chipmunks
Not a surprise. I think I saw fewer movies in the past year than ever before. Only 3 in the top 100. I also saw Atonement and Becoming Jane which just missed the top 100. My girlfriend loves “English period” pieces.
Wait…that’s five movies right there and I can only remember seeing two others. I guess I saw 7 movies all year.
Spider-Man 3 (didn’t like the first two, no plans to see this)
Shrek the Third (see #1)
Pirates of the Carribbean: At World’s End (not crazy about the first two, but my wife likes them, and we’ll probably rent this eventually)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (my parents own the DVD and I plan to borrow it sometime soon)
I am Legend (in my Netflix queue, looking forward to seeing it)
The Bourne Ultimatum (see #5)
Ratatouille (see #6)
The Simpsons Movie (maybe a rental, someday)
Alvin and the Chipmunks (was not aware this movie existed)
National Treasure: Book of Secrets (may catch this someday if it’s on television and I’m bored)
Yeah, I don’t see a whole lot of movies in the theater. I tend to catch stuff on DVD a while later. I did have tentative plans to see I am Legend that didn’t pan out so that’s the closest thing to a surprise. I’ve only seen a handful of the whole top 100, and the best of those was Grindhouse.
The only thing in the top 20 I haven’t seen is Alvin and the Chipmunks, whichis completely by design. Going down the list, The only thing I’m at all suprised I haven’t seen would be Sicko. Other than that, I’ve only missed tripe like Norbit and TMNT. I try to stay away from kids’ movies.
