Top-10 movies of 2007 that you *missed*

Here are the BoxOfficeMojo top 100 movies of 2007.

From #1 (Spider-Man 3) onward, what are the top-10 movies that you missed?

Also, any movies surprise you for not having been seen?

  1. 2 Shrek 3
  2. 4 POTC 3
  3. 5 Harry Potter/Phoenix
  4. 6 I am Legend
  5. 7 The Bourne Ultimatum
  6. 11 Alvin and the Chipmunks
  7. 13 Wild Hogs
  8. 15 Rush Hour 3
  9. 16 Live Free or Die Hard
  10. 18 American Gangster

$2.1 billion box office total. I’m surprised I haven’t seen I am Legend, as well as Meet the Robinson’s, Beowulf, and The Mist.

2 Shrek the Third
6 I Am Legend
8 300
11 Alvin and the Chipmunks
12 National Treasure: Book of Secrets
13 Wild Hogs
14 Knocked Up
15 Rush Hour 3
17 Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
18 American Gangster

I’m not surprised about any of them. I choose to not see particular movies very carefully. I also choose which I’ll wait for DVD carefully. I only saw five movies in the cinema last year, the rest I saw on DVD, but the only one of the above 10 I plan to do that for is I Am Legend.

I decided that I wasn’t going to watch anything that was a sequel of a sequel this year, as I predicted they’d all suck. This meant I missed, well, basically every movie this summer. POTC 3, Spiderman, Shrek, Oceans 13, Resident Evil, Bourne, HP, etc.

So far, no ones said anything about any of these films that’s made me think this is a bad system.

i just don’t seem to be arsed to catch popular flicks any more; I’ve only seen two of the films in the top ten, and a mere seven of the top 100. Here are my top ten no-sees:

1 Spider-Man 3
2 Shrek the Third
4 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
5 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
7 The Bourne Ultimatum
8 300
9 Ratatouille
10 The Simpsons Movie
11 Alvin and the Chipmunks
12 National Treasure: Book of Secrets

With that said, looking down the list, there really are very few popular films from the previous year that I actually would feel like seeing on a big screen. Of the ten above, the only ones I’m likely to eventually check out at some point are Spidey 3, Ratatouille, and The Simpsons Movie.

Spiderman 3
Shrek 3
Pirates 3
I Am Legend
300
Alvin & The Chipmunks
Natl Treasure
Wild Hogs
Rush Hour 3
Fantastic Four Two

Lot’s of 3’s on that list, and FF42 sort of averages to a 3.

I’m simply floored that A&TC has made 175,000,000. I figured it would get some kids, but maybe do 75-100. $175,000,000 is money!

Like the sequel-is-in-the-works and Jason Lee-gets-$15M-for-the-next-one MONEY.

Best movie on the short list is Ratatouille.

This whole thread was just a sneaky way to root out the people who saw “Wild Hogs” isn’t it?

Looking at you, El Kabong.

I haven’t seen it, but is it really 103rd best movie ever (per the geniuses who frequent IMDB) good?

It’s in my top 107 list.

Seriously, I don’t know. I probably had it about top 5 this year, and that would probably put it in my top 100 all time because I only have about 10 movies that predate 1970 on that list.

It’s probably top 3 on my animated movie list (or would be if I had one). That’s gotta count for something.

1 Spider-Man 3
2 Shrek the Third
3 Transformers
4 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
5 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
6 I Am Legend
7 The Bourne Ultimatum
8 300
9 Ratatouille
11 Alvin and the Chipmunks

Not a surprise. I think I saw fewer movies in the past year than ever before. Only 3 in the top 100. I also saw Atonement and Becoming Jane which just missed the top 100. My girlfriend loves “English period” pieces.

Wait…that’s five movies right there and I can only remember seeing two others. I guess I saw 7 movies all year.

  1. Spider-Man 3 (didn’t like the first two, no plans to see this)
  2. Shrek the Third (see #1)
  3. Pirates of the Carribbean: At World’s End (not crazy about the first two, but my wife likes them, and we’ll probably rent this eventually)
  4. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (my parents own the DVD and I plan to borrow it sometime soon)
  5. I am Legend (in my Netflix queue, looking forward to seeing it)
  6. The Bourne Ultimatum (see #5)
  7. Ratatouille (see #6)
  8. The Simpsons Movie (maybe a rental, someday)
  9. Alvin and the Chipmunks (was not aware this movie existed)
  10. National Treasure: Book of Secrets (may catch this someday if it’s on television and I’m bored)

Yeah, I don’t see a whole lot of movies in the theater. I tend to catch stuff on DVD a while later. I did have tentative plans to see I am Legend that didn’t pan out so that’s the closest thing to a surprise. I’ve only seen a handful of the whole top 100, and the best of those was Grindhouse.

Here goes:

  1. Alvin and the Chipmunks
  2. Rush Hour 3
  3. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer
  4. Bee Movie
  5. I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
  6. Ghost Rider
  7. Evan Almighty
  8. Meet the Robinsons
  9. Norbit
  10. The Game Plan

Maybe I’ll watch some of these when they hit the Movie Networks, but I highly doubt it. They all look pretty terrible.

It’s probably faster to just list the 4 movies I did see from that list, Harry Potter OOTP, The Simpsons Movie, Saw IV and The Mist.

So, you only have to go to #12 to get my 10 missed of the highest grossing films.

Far easier to tell you what I DID see:

9 Ratatouille
24 Blades of Glory (on a plane)
53 Shooter
65 Fracture
77 Zodiac
85 Mr. Brooks
93 Sicko

The only thing in the top 20 I haven’t seen is Alvin and the Chipmunks, whichis completely by design. Going down the list, The only thing I’m at all suprised I haven’t seen would be Sicko. Other than that, I’ve only missed tripe like Norbit and TMNT. I try to stay away from kids’ movies.

  1. Spiderman 3
  2. Shrek the third
  3. Transformers
  4. I Am Legend
  5. The Bourne Ultimatum
  6. Ratatouille
  7. The Simpsons Movie
  8. Alvin and the Chipmunks (how did this movie do this well?!)
  9. Wild Hogs
  10. Knocked Up

I only saw 20 of the top 100 grossing films for 2007, and just another 6 of the next 50.

  1. Shrek 3
  2. Alvin & the Chimpmunks
  3. National Treasure: BoS
  4. Wild Hogs
  5. Rush Hour 3
  6. Bee Movie
  7. I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry
  8. Ghost Rider
  9. Evan Almighty
  10. Meet the Robinsons

  1. #2 - Shrek 3 (I could see this being a good Mantra= one two shrek three, one two shrek three, one two…)
  2. #9 - Ratatouille
  3. #11 - That Stupid Chipmunk Movie
  4. #12 - Nat. Treasure 2
  5. #13 - Wild Hogs (although I did see the first 5 minutes by mistake)
  6. #14 - Knocked Up
  7. #15 - Rush Hour 3
  8. #16 - Live Free or Die Hard
  9. #18 - American Gangster
  10. #19 - Bee Movie

I do want to see American Gangster, Die Hard, and Nat. Treasure, just haven’t yet. Also, Ratatouille looks pretty good I guess.

Yep, you got me. B-but I saw it on a plane! I was trapped! I couldn’t turn it off!
