Top 5 worst pop/rock songs of all time?

Midnight at the Oasis

AFTERNOON DELIGHT
RUN, JOEY, RUN
I LIKE DREAMING
DEAR MR. JESUS
Does it surprise anyone that the majority of songs we’re all listing here are from the 70’s?

Poor Side of Town—Johnny Rivers
Everything Is Beautiful—Ray Stevens
Hooked on a Feeling—Blue Swede
You Don’t Have To Be A Star—Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr.
Kiss You All Over—Exile

whitetho just about nailed it. Although "Dear Mr. Jebus is close as well.

With that said, howz bout:

"Ring Ma Bell - Anita Ward
"I Love The Nightlife - Alicia Bridges
"On My Own - Patti LeBelle

I don’t know the name of it (I heard it at the grocery store) but it’s by Mariah Carey and has something to do with being a butterfly. Hands down the worst song ever, no contest, and yes I’m including all the songs listed here already. I’ve never heard such a horrible song before, and I stood there in the aisle for its entirety with my mouth hanging open in shock.

To make 5 I’ll add:

Louie, Louie – The Kingsmen (??)
Love Lift us up Where We Belong – Joe Cocker
AND the Joe Cocker version of “A Little Help from my Friends”
We Built This City - Starship

(I actually like some of the songs you guys are dissing, lol. Afternoon delight is a guitly favorite.)

It’s hard to pick just five though, isn’t it? I had to leave out “Old Time Rock & Roll” because I couldn’t narrow down my Joe Cocker hatred.

Watching Scotty Grow - Bobby Goldsboro
You Don’t Bring Me Flowers - Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond
Have You Ever Been Mellow - Olivia Newton-John
Lovin’ You - Minnie Ripperton
Havin’ My Baby - Paul Anka
Sometimes When We Touch - Dan Hill

Sorry, Rico, I thought you were looking for nominations rather than a list. Anyway…

We Built This City
I Will Always Love You – Whitney Houston
Rico Suave – Gerardo
I’m A Slave 4 U – Britney Spears
I Just Called to Say I Love You – Stevie Wonder

Seasons in the Sun. See what happens when you get Rod McKuen and JAcques Brel in the same room.

Sometimes When We Touch- Dan Hill Can’t believe nobody mentioned this one.

Honey for sure.

Time Passages- Al Stewart

And to mix it up, The Night Chicago Died- Paper Lace

Woops, I got carried away and listed 6. Just mentally delete any one you like. Any one except “Watching Scotty Grow,” that is. It’s the worst song ever written.

Joy to the World Three Dog Night
(can I vote for the entire “Big Chill” soundtrack except for “Bad Moon Rising”? Never mind.)

I Feel Good James Brown

Sun King The Beatles

My Girl Smokey Robinson (performed by the Temptations)

Lay Down Sally Eric Clapton

The Final Countdown - Europe (not copying Mr Svinlesha - I chose this one while the thread was still loading)
We Built This City - Starship
Rock Me Amadeus - Falco
Agadoo - Black Lace
Anything by Roxette

Does anyone remember Lucky Stars? How some moments in your life are frozen in time, I can still vividly remember two girls singing this song when I was in the 7th grade. It was very popular with the girls in my class way way back in 1977.

“Do you still love me, Yes I still love you
Mean you’re not just bein’ nice, No I’m not just being nice
Do you feel sleepy, Aw, you’re so sincere, Yes I feel sleepy
Well slide over here ‘cause I may not be all that bright
But I know how to hold you tight”

Last Kiss - Pearl Jam
In the Year 2525 - Zager and Evans
Emotional Rescue - The Rolling Stones
Disco Duck - Rick Dees
Sugar Sugar - The Archies.

Afternoon Delight- Starland Vocal Band
Rock the Boat- Hues Corporation <?>
Rock Me Gently-Andy Kim
Physical-Olivia Newton-John
Amanda-Bostom

We Will Rock You - Queen (and don’t get me wrong, I like some of there songs)
I Shot the Sherrif - Eric Clapton (He has done some excellent work in the past - what compelled him to write this POS?)
Takin’ Care of Business - Bachman-Turner Overdrive (I swear, if I hear that song one more time…)
Anything by blink-182
Time of Your Life - Green Day

I don’t know who performs it goes “Words can’t bring me down” over and over again. I imagine it’s called Words Can’t bring me down

No Rain Blind Melon

Lick it Up Kiss

Joy to the World three Dog Night gets my vote

Time of our Lives or whatever its called by Green Day

Actually I just thought of another song I really hate I Only Want to be With You by Hootie and the Blowfish

Joy to the World
Dominique- by the Singing Nun-(it was so bad she killed herself)
Baby I Need Your Lovin -Johnny Rivers
Debbie Boone-1977 #1 -but luckily I forget the title
I Hear A Symphony-Supremes

My nominations:

Hootie Sapperticker by Barbara and the Boys. I have to thank Max Torque and Dave Barry for bringing this one to my attention. God, does it suck.

MacArthur Park in all its various incarnations. Take this cake and shove it, okay?

Seasons in the Sun, lyrics by Rod McKuen, sung by Terry Jacks. Yeah, I know it’s not good form to laugh at the dying, but just die already!

In the Year 2525 by Zager and Evans. Guys, take some Prozac or something.

You Light Up My Life by Debbie Boone. (This is the one drdoowop was thinking of.) Nauseatingly sweet. It makes me want to pour salt and vinegar on my stereo and beat up a nun.

There are more, of course.

Robin

Are you whooshing us here? Bob Marley wrote “I Shot the Sheriff” and it’s a fine, fine song. But hey, it’s your vote.

  1. “MacArthur Park” Richard Harris
  2. “I Wanna Know What Love Is” Lou Gramm (I despise him and all his works)
  3. “Lady” Styx (I’ll never forget the scene in Freaks & Geeks where Nick sings that to Lindsey-- priceless)
  4. “Girls Girls Girls” Motley Crue (sorry, can’t manage the umlauts)
  5. “We Built This City” Jefferson Starship

I’m sure there are many others that I will remember as soon as I press “send.” I thought of #1 and #5 as soon as I saw the thread title, but now I see many others share my feelings, whoo oo oo feelings…

  1. Never Been to Me - Charlene
  2. The Greatest Love of All - Whitney Houston
  3. Fever for the Flavor (is that right?) - Hot Action Cop
  4. It’s Been A While - I forget the band. Disturbed? Maybe?
  5. Dirrrrrrrty - Christina Aguilera

I miss having a working tape deck in my car.
