Top 5 worst pop/rock songs of all time?

Here’s where you get to help me choose the top 5 worst songs of all time. Here’s how it works.

You post your top 5 worst songs. I’ll assign points - your number 1 song gets 5 points, your number 2 gets 4 points, and I’ll keep track on a webpage that I will post here in a little bit.

Please limit this to the pop/rock genre. I know there is a general dislike for country music and new age here, so if a song in those genres (legit crossovers excepted) appears, I’ll simply leave it out of the voting and move your others up one notch.

To kick this off, here’s MY top 5 worst songs of all time:

[ul]
[li]Seasons In The Sun by Terry Jacks[/li][li]Billy Don’t Be A Hero by Terry Jacks[/li][li]Dust In The Wind by Kansas[/li][li]Brand New Key by Melanie[/li][li]Feelings by Morris Albert[/li][/ul] Your turn! Let’s have some fun with this one.

The Gambler by Kenny Rogers – some people actually believe this muddle of crap expresses some sort of deep philosophy.

Neanderthal Man by Hotlegs – so bad that the group renamed themselves (as 10cc) before putting out another record.

Horse with No Name by America – third-rate Neil Young imitation with dumb lyrics.

Honey by Bobby Goldsboro – the ipecac of popular music.

Joy to the World by Three Dog Night – useless crap.

Oh duh…

Billy Don’t Be A Hero was by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods.

Yes, I knew that

I don’t wanna miss a thing - Aerosmith

Love Jones - Brighter Side of Darkness

I hope you dance - LeAnnWomack

Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue - Toby Keith

Celebrity - Brad Paisley

Dust in the Wind?? That’s a fine song.

My vote is Macarthur Park by Richard Harris

OK, web site’s up - I’ll update it as I get the chance.

Worst 5 Songs of All Time - as voted by the SDMB

And Dust In The Wind makes my list because the lyrics are so damned depressing.

I Honestly Love You - ONJ
Lights - Foreigner
You Don’t Bring Me Flowers - Streisand/Diamond
Tell Laura I Love Her
Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue

We Built This City – Jefferson Starship (or “Starship”, or “Piece of Ship” or whatever the F they called themselves)

Come on, let’s try to keep this to lists of 5 songs, so we have a greater range of scores and chances for multiple scoring.

I can’t decide whether “Honey”, or “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing”
should top my list…

[sub]::finds coin amongst pocket lint, flips it::[/sub]

Okay…“Honey” it is.

Followed by “Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith.

“Seasons in the Sun”

“Brand New Key”

I also feel compelled to add “The Night Chicago Died”, by Paper Lace. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve Never Been To Me - Charlene
Walk The Dinosaur - Was (Not Was)
What’s Goin’ On - 4 Non Blondes
Butterfly Kisses - Bob Carlisle
The Sign - Ace of Base

Just the first ones that popped into my head, but good god, this list could go on forever.

“I Am I Said” by Neil Diamond
“Shame on the Moon” by Bob Seager
“For What It’s Worth” by Buffalo Springfield
“From a Distance” by Bette Middler
“Achy Breaky Heart” by Billy Ray Cyrus

Lay, Lady, Lay
Horse With No Name
I Shot the Sheriff
Midnight at the Oasis
Muskrat Love
I also want to speak to RealityChuck here. I like Joy to the World. Sure, it’s silly, but it’s fun to sing along to, has a good beat.:stuck_out_tongue:

Avril Lavigne’s Skater Boi… I hate her and her third grade poetry soooo much!

Margaritaville - Jimmy Buffett

Feelings - Morris Albert

We Built This City - Starship

Disco Duck- Rick Dees & His Cast Of Idiots

You Don’t Bring Me Flowers - Barbra Streisand & Neil Diamond

2 points each to sk8er boi and Achy, Breaky Heart.

Honey = bobby goldsboro
Paper Roses = Marie Osmond
Wildfire = ? Micjhael Mcdonald ?
Billy don’t be a hero = Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods
Short People = Randy Newman

Another vote for “We Built this City”. It was a lame song to begin with, but putting the space in the middle where local DJ’s were supposed to do promos for their own stations… gack!

“Feelings” whoa, whoa, whoa… ick.

I’m surprised nobody has yet mentioned “Having My Baby” by Paul Anka and whoever that chick was. My God, I can’t believe that song even made the charts. I can’t believe anyone ever bought a single freaking copy.

“Turn the Page”- Bob Seger. I have a special loathing for songs about how much I hate being a star and actually have to go out on the road and perform for the fans.

“Escape (the Pina Colada Song).” OK, so you’re with a woman long enough that you’re tired of her, so you answer a personal ad with the intent of cheating on her… and you find out that this romantic stranger is the woman you’re tired of who has gotten bored with you and is trying to cheat on you… and, realizing that the two of you want to cheat on each other, you rekindle the relationship. Huh? Oh, and I like the bit where you had been together so long, but never knew that she like pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain…

“Billy, Don’t be a Hero” (Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods) That has to be my number one most all time hated pop song.

Literally anything by Barry Manilow; how about “I Write the Songs?” Ugh.

“Feelings” God, what an awful song.

“The Final Countdown” (Europe)

“Muskrat Love” (that was by the Captain and Tennille, wasn’t it?)

I’ve Never Been to Me - Charlene (#3, 1982)
Float On - The Floaters (#2, 1977)
The Last Game of the Season (A Blind Man in the Bleachers) - David Geddes (#18, 1975)
In the Year 2525 (Exordium and Terminus) - Zager & Evans (#1, 1969)
Butterfly Kisses - Bob Carlisle
