Top 5 worst pop/rock songs of all time?

Oh, and I almost forgot two more songs from 2002 that were shockingly bad from two formerly favorite artists; these really belong in the top five:

Peter Gabriel - The Barry Williams Show
Jackson Browne - The Naked Ride Home

Money For Nothing

SK8tr Boi - Avril Lavigne
Like I Love You - Justin Timberlake
I’m A Slave 4 U - Britney Spears
Knockin On Heavens Door - Avril Lavigne
American Pie - Madonna

Noted.

Guess I spent too much time in Top 40 radio.

I’ll update the website tonight when I get home from work. Thanks for the comments, everyone. Keep 'em coming.

Oh yes, Watcher of the Skies, “The Naked Ride Home” makes my flesh crawl!

And hey, I thought of two more too, and though I’ve already voted, they really should not be overlooked. For those older dopers with a good memory, two fetid droppings from Millie Small:

My Boy Lollipop
&
Sweet William

bleah!

How come “Who Let the Dog’s Out” isn’t on this list yet? Please add it and multiply the number of votes by the number of times they repeat that damned line over and over again.

I call FOUL!

Any “vote” in which “Joy to the World” far outranks “You Light Up My Life” HAS to be rigged.

“Landside” Lyndon would be proud of this “vote”!

2nd on “who let the dogs out”
2nd on “you light up my life”
2nd on “mambo #5

I know. Heh. It’s just disheartening to see so many opinions calling things I really enjoy “terrible.” At least no one listed Brandy yet haha! (I shouldn’t have said that, should I?)

OK I’m starting the update now - should be done in a couple of hours I’ll list the website then.

  1. Sugar Sugar by The Archies: adolescent bubble gum pap.

  2. Old time Rock n’ Roll: I don’t remember who sang this song, but it really annoys me for some reason.

  3. Big girls don’t cry: I’ve always hated this song.

  4. Do you love me? : I’ve always hated this song as well, especially the lyrics.

  5. Barbie Girl by Aqua : When this song first came out, my sister listened to it over and over, to my disgust. The band said something about this song was supposed a statement about consumerism, but it just doesn’t work in that sense. Fortunately, the record label got sued by Mattel and that has ended any further radio play.

Fianl update done - I’ve compiled the top 10 worst songs as voted by YOU!

See the list here.

No more updates and scoring, but feel free to continue the discussion.

And the worst song with 30 points is:

Seasons In The Sun by Terry Jacks

Yeah for Terry Jacks! Rod McKuen, Jacques Brel and Terry. 2gether 4ever.

I totally forgot to mention a personal fave that many folks won’t remember. There was a ehovah’s Witness band called Edward Bear who scored with “The Last Song I’ll Ever Write For You.”

Oh. My. God. Rico, you must remember that one, being MR.Top 40.

Mellow Yellow - Donovan
I heard it in a moving car once and almost - seriously - jumped out.

Havin’ My Baby - Paul Anka
Insipid garbage.

Die Another Day - Madonna
Without a doubt the worst Bond theme by light years.

Ice, Ice, Baby - Vanilla Ice
I heard this tepid bilge eminating from a black SUV the other day while I was downtown. I’d forced it from my mind. I belive it causes cancer in rodents under laboratory conditions, and outside them as well.

I Want to Spend My Christmas with a Dalek - God Alone Knows But They Must Be Punished For It
I’m a big Doctor Who fan, and this song is the worst piece of fetid garbage ever recorded. I’d rather listen to an hour of Adolf Hitler gargling naked and whistling Wagner through his nose.

Last Song by Edward Bear.

Oh yeah, I remember that one.

Too well.

Why did you have to remind me?

OK -

Oooo, nearly forgot… Forever in Blue Jeans. Its horrible.

YOW!

** Extraneous**, where in Jebus’ name did THAT come from?

Talk about your pent up music rage! You must have been holding that list in for YEARS and then it finally exploded!

Not bad picks, though, the majority of them…

  1. the kenny loggins album that my roomate inflicted on me mercilessly

  2. the wall–pink floyd pabulum inflated into a double album

  3. emerson lake and palmer’s entire recorded output

  4. bowie and sting(k)

  5. eight days a week–beatles

no–scratch eight days a week

add

  1. the eagles

sorry
