It’s 6PM. Time to leave work.
A long since departed FM radio station here in NY used to have a weekly poll entitled the Top 10 at 10. People would call in their fave 10 Songs for the artist the station would announce and then at 10PM Friday they’d play them.
I figured, what the hell…let’s make it simpler, truncate it to 6 and try it in Message Board format, starting with A.
Hence, Aerosmith
My Countdown Picks
6. Back In the Saddle
5. Love In an Elevator
4. Kings & Queens
3.Draw The Line
2. Round and Round
- Sweet Emotion
Anyone else?
First, I can’t think of a single FM rock station which can be heard on Long Island that has left the air in at least 30 years. There have been some slight format changes, and I think this bit may have been done by K-Rock when they were classic rock.
Second, I don’t think Aerosmith recorded a song called Round and Round. Perhaps you are thinking of Ratt?
Third, Aerosmith hasn’t recorded a song worth hearing in at least 10 years, probably less than 5 in the last 20, and should be pretty close to completing their transition into Backstreet Boy clones any album now.
But you asked for a list, so:
- Dude Looks like a Lady
- Mama Kin
- Remember (Walkin’ in the sand)
- Walk this way (w/ Run DMC)
- Dream On
- Train 'Kept a Rollin
Toys in the Attic is the only Aerosmith album I ever actually owned, must have listened to it a hundred times. I still have no memory of that song, and even after listening to the 30 second snippet on cdnow I don’t remember it. So anyway, oops my bad.
Though a song that forgettable really ought to share some of the blame.
Oh wait, I also had Live Bootleg on 8-track.
I’m removing Living on the Edge from my list and replacing it with the instrumental from (I believe) Permanent Vacation.
As always, the older material is the best.
The top 5 in no apparent order:
•Mama Kin
•Last Child
•Dream On
•Sweet Emotion
•Big 10 inch record
Far and away the best song Aerosmith ever did, a bluesy number, the song before Dream On on the album- One Way Street

Alright, our top 6 at 6 for Aerosmith…
Sweet Emotion
Walk This Way
Train Kept A’Rollin
Dude Looks Like A Lady
Livin’ On The Edge
And , our number one song…Janie’s Got A Gun! (Am I the only one who likes this song?)
[/bad Casey Kasem impression]
6: Amazing
5: Pink
4: Love in an Elevator
3: Sweet Emotion
2: Walk This Way
1: Ain’t That a Bitch (I’m really shocked there’s no love for this song on this thread thus far…)
When I said departed, I was speaking in terms of format, not signal. Since the mid-70’s, WPLJ-FM (who did the 10@10), WOR-FM, WABC-FM, WAPP-FM, 99X and WNEW-FM all pulled the plug on the progressive or AOR format.
IMHO, Round and Round personifies the sound, rawness and punch of earlier Aerosmith. The 2nd reason I picked it was for it’s obscurity. PD’s often miss those little chestnuts, in fact they’re wrong more times than they are right.
I was just waiting for somebody to pick Cramazying. (Crazy, Amazing, and Crying. All the same damn song.)
I was a HUGE Aerosmith fan for my formidable years but have completly lost all love for them in the recent years. Tossing mics back and forth with Kid Rock made me mad. Singing with whatever boyband they sang with at the super bowl last year made me laugh. Its over. The greatest American “rock” band ever,IMO, has died. Anyway, I still like the old stuff so I still have favorites. essvee’s picks were good, but here are my top 6:
Walkin the Dog
SOS (too bad)
No More No More
Nobody’s Fault
I Wanna Know Why
No Suprise
(one song from each of the first 6 albums, but there really isnt a bad song on any of the first four albums)
dead0man
thanks for the props, dead0man. i have made the same assertion here, to wit: aerosmith was, at their peak (first four albums), the most important, most influential american rock band ever.
