Top 6 @ 6 Week #3. You're Tori Amos Faves AND Allman Brothers results from Week #2

Polling is closed. Thanks to the dirty dozen who responded.

First: Results from last weeks Allman Brothers Band poll. There are some really great choices. With both this weeks and last weeks Aerosmith results, I’ve come to the conclusion that had AOR programmers polled Dopers for album cut selections, perhaps the format wouldn’t have become such a canned, tragic, predictable joke:

The envelope please: [drumroll] coming in an number one with [/drumroll]…[ul]
[li]9 Votes: In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed[/li]
The runners up:
[li]8 Votes: Whipping Post (1 Vote Specifies Studio Version)[/li][li]7 Votes: Statesboro Blues [/li][li]7 Votes: One Way Out [/li][li]6 Votes: Jessica [/li][li]5 Votes: Midnight Rider [/li][li]4 Votes: Dreams[/li][li]3 Votes: Revival [/li][li]3 Votes: Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More [/li][li]2 Votes: Trouble No More [/li][li]2 Votes: Southbound [/li][li]2 Votes: Mountain Jam [/li][li]2 Votes: Melissa [/li][li]2 Votes: Don’t Want You No More/It’s Not My Cross To Bear [/li][li]2 Votes: Blue Sky [/li]
And 1 Vote Each For:
[li]Come and Go Blues [/li][li]Don’t Keep Me Wonderin’ [/li][li]Good Clean Fun [/li][li]Little Martha (with Oakley’s bass part included) [/li][li]Not My Cross To Bear [/li][li]Please Call Home [/li][li]Ponyboy [/li][li]Ramblin’ Man [/li][li]Seven Turns [/li][li]Soulshine [/li][li]Stormy Monday [/li][li]Where it all Begins [/li][li]You Don’t Love Me/Soul Serenade [/li][li]I’m No Angel (Gregg Allman solo single)[/ul][/li]Thanks again to all participants.

Secondly: Band selections. I figure after two more “A” Band polls, I’d move on to the B’s (I’d like to have my CD-R doper research wrapped up by the end of the millennium). The Plan (in keeping with the alphabetical sequence) is to begin the B’s on 4/26/02, but nothings carved in stone here {in fact it’s actually just etched on a rewriteable server drive somewhere}.

I realize I’ll be skipping past ABC, Abba, AC/DC, Bryan Adams, Adam Ant, Mike Agranoff, A-Ha, The Alarm, Alice In Chains, Alive and Kicking, The Amboy Dukes, America, Eric Anderson, Anthrax, Aphrodite’s Child, Tasmin Archer, Argent, Asia, The Association, The Avant Gardeners & The AWB…just to name a few. I’m not being biased, just attempting to run polls that will get more than 12 responses.

That being said, in an attempt to be as polite, democratic and fair-minded (as is possible for a native NY’er to be) I’ll open the floor to any suggestions; if 2 or more posters have a band they’d like to see featured in the 6 @ 6, I’ll post it accordingly.

Finally: Speaking of polls, here this weeks…featuring Tori Amos. Here are my picks.
[ul][li]6. Blood Roses[/li][li]5. Cornflake Girl[/li][li]4. Crucify[/li][li]3. God[/li][li]2. Strange Little Girl[/li][li]1. Caught A Lite Sneeze[/ul][/li]
Stay tuned next week for the Animals, followed (tentatively) by Bad Co. …Same Doper Time…Same Doper Channel, I mean forum.

Sorry, don’t know enough about Tori to provide a thoughtful answer. Please keep this weekly poll going, though. Thanks.

My knowledge really only goes up to Boys For Pele, but I’ll put it in anyway:

  1. Winter
  2. China
  3. Icicle
  4. Crucify
  5. Past The Mission
  6. Putting the Damage On

My knowledge also is limited, but I’ll take a shot.

  1. Past the Mission
  2. God
  3. Cornflake Girl
  4. Crucify

Sorry, only could come up with 4…but I wanted to play anyway!

My picks for Tori:

  1. Yes, Anastasia
  2. Hey, Jupiter
  3. Blood Roses
  4. Here, In My Head
  5. God
  6. Northern Lad
  1. Red Baron
  2. Winter
  3. Caught a Lite Sneeze
  4. Icicle
  5. Baker Baker
  6. Cornflake Girl
    7 Yes, Anastasia
  7. Marianne
  8. Playboy Mommy

I know I’m in the minority here, but I haven’t really liked a single song from any album after the Crucify EP, so here goes:

  1. Silent All These Years
  2. Smells Like Teen Spirit
  3. Me and a Gun
  4. Caught a Lite Sneeze
  5. Precious Things
  6. Little Earthquakes

Notes:
1 – Oh, shut up. I can still remember exactly where I was and who else was in the room with me and what we said to each other after the very first time I heard this song, and it was what, ten years ago? Beat that.
2 – Yeah, yeah. But it was a gorgeous rendition of one of the all-time great songs.
3 – Or what my wife calls the “All Men Must Die Acoustical Jam.”
4 – I guess this one contradicts my opener, but vinryk reminded me of it. Thanks.
5 – I have not the faintest idea why, either. Yes, good song, but it sticks in my head as a really good one, but not why.
6 – I’m a sucker for the instrumental line in the chorus.

  1. Crucify
  2. Little Earthquakes
  3. Silent All These Years
  4. Happy Phantom
  5. Tear In Your Hand
  6. Cornflake Girl
  1. Not the Red Baron
  2. Horses
  3. Yes, Anastasia
  4. Precious Things
  5. Marianne
  6. Cloud on My Tongue
  1. Hey Jupiter
  2. Doughnut Song
  3. Mother
  4. Liquid Diamonds
    5.Caught a Lite Sneeze
  5. Horses
  1. Crucify (daym! Especially the single remix.)
  2. God
  3. Father Lucifer (I have a live version that she sang along with “Small-town Boy” by the Bronski Beat)
  4. Happy Phantom
  5. Silent All These Years, Leather, Precious Things
  1. Silent All These Years
  2. Hey Jupiter
  3. China
  4. Tear in Your Hand
  5. Professional Widow
  6. Raspberry Swirl

My selection will probably change in the next ten minutes…

Hey, I missed the beginning and premise of this thing… are you actually compiling some sort of master list JohnBckWLD? When do you close the polls?

Shoot, I forgot about Silent All These Years.

Throw that on my list as #5

I’m gonna go ahead and pick stuff no one else has…

  1. 1000 Oceans
  2. Cooling
  3. Silent all these years (ok, so there’s one repeat)
  4. Jackie’s Strength
  5. Sweet Dreams
  6. Winter

Oh man, I forgot Northern Lad… Drop Winter from my list.

Can I play too?

  1. God
  2. ‘Professional Widow’ (Armand van Helden’s remix)
  3. ‘Winter’
  4. ‘Northern Lad’
  5. ‘Silent All These Years’
  6. The immortal ‘Cornflake Girl’
  1. Precious Things
  2. Silent All These Years
  3. Raspberry Swirl
  4. Leather
  5. Winter

All of these songs force you to feel something whether you like it or not. Number 1 makes me feel powerful and elemental for some reason. Number 2 makes me reflective, both good for a summer drive. Number 5 takes some courage, 'cause it’ll bring on a total breakdown if you have any “Daddy issues”. The other two are just cool songs.

Well, it’s not a master list, Actually, I’m fullfilling one of 3 New Years Resolutions I made: To finish recording a series of CD-R’s that highlights all the chestnuts and my faves. I have everyting sitting in a database, pretty much ready to go but wanna make sure I have my i’s dotted and t’s crossed. What I do is take the responses and give them all another listen to, to make sure there was something I didn’t overlook. The series is already up to 270 hrs. of music, 4100+ songs.

Polling closes on Friday afternoon, I drop the answers into Word, sort em and paste the results along with a new poll on Fridays. The 1st was is here: with Aerosmith

The Aerosmith results were posted the following week here: with the Allman Bros. poll, which you see the results posted at the top of this thread.

  1. Crucify
  2. Silent All These Years
  3. God
  4. Blood Roses
  5. Happy Phantom
  6. Leather

Yeah, I know most of these are from Little Earthquakes, but that’s still my favorite album of hers.
