Subtitled: A Dedication to The Bear and The Blind Owl.
Another Monday, Another Closed Poll.
Last Week’s Hello, I’m Johnny Cash Poll Tally: A whopping 30 Voters / 176 Selections, which, obviously garnered more feedback than Week 28’s Cab Calloway Supplemental Poll with: 6 Voters / 36 Selections…In fact, I think the Man in Black got more votes than the Fab Four.
Factoid of the Week: 4 voters left the Honky Tonk and ducked into the Speak Easy last week and voted in both polls.
On To Business:
1st: Honorable Mentions, Notes & Asides[ul][li]All the Dopers who voted this week. []** Chiefhardcrab ♪ Kat ♪ kunilou ♪ Ol’Gaffer ♪ peepthis ♪ pesch ♪ tclouie ♪ waits**: Newcomers to the 6@6 poll. []Reality Chuck: I’m gonna bend the rules & re-calculate the Bonzo results after I get to listen to Cornology discs 2 & 3 a couple more times.[]Labdad: Whose Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen requested poll will be a supplement in Week #43 to…[]cmkeller’s requested Crosby, Stills, Nash (& Young) Poll (Nice catch…I inadvertently omitted in the Tentative Schedule). []brianjedi: Who doesn’t vote but whose Alice In Chains poll will run as the new supplemental poll in Week #32 (In my defense, just like AC/DC, even though I like them, I passed them by on purpose back in the A’s because I didn’t think they’d be much of a draw)[]Kat: Remind me about Merle Haggard when we get to the H’s[/ul][/li]
2nd: Venus Fly Trap
“High Search Count” words used to control results through demographic alterations…This week’s desired demographic group: Lovers of White Blues. Will these keywords attract bluesfiends? Mojo, Roadhouse, Juke Joint, Back Door Man, Barrel House, Boogie-Woogie, Cold-in-Hand, C.C. Rider, Easy Rider [sub]Warning: Cheap search gimmick employed above[/sub]

4th: Past polls and Results:
After the ZZ Top poll, sometime this decade, the plan is to compile all the votes from the SDMB & post them in a few threads. Then I’ll burn a several volume CD set & mail ‘em out to the voters who helped keep these threads going. The scrap-heap of past polls continues to grow: Johnny Cash § Cab Calloway § Dave Clark Five § Bonzo Dog Band§ Cake§ Beck (Hanson) § Jimmy Buffett § Jeff Buckley § The Byrds § Buffalo Springfield § Bush § Kate Bush § Jackson Browne § James Brown § Better Than Ezra § Banarama § David Bowie Boston § Bon Jovi § Blur § Belle & Sebastian§ Blue Öyster Cult § Blondie§ Blink 182§ Black Sabbath§ Black Crowes§ Bjork§ B-52’s§ Chuck Berry§ Beastie Boys§ Jeff Beck§ The Band§ Beach Boys§ Beatles§ Animals§ Tori Amos§ Allman Brothers§ AC/DC § Abba& Aerosmith polls.
5th: Week 28 Results:
Tabulation Notes: Not too bad. Johnny Cash got 5X the number of votes I though he would. I’m typing this while WFUV is playing a live cover version of Eric Clapton doin “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” and I must admit I’m feeling a little sick in the stomach at the moment. And what’s this? No one voted for my favorite Cash song, San Quentin? I’m stunned. The accounting department at the 6@6 corporate offices tried to be careful to not screw up the results…like they did with the Beatles “Day in The Life / A Day in the Life”…if you find any errors please report them.

Without further ado…the under-rated, under-played Canned Heat.
Here are my 6 CANNED HEAT selections:
- Let’s Work Together One of their better covers
- Fried Hockey Boogie Mix the most famous blues riff (ala Boom Boom or La Grange) with Dance to the Music and this is the result
- Amphetamine Annie Speed Kiils
- Going Up The Country A great re-working of Henry Thomas’ 1928 blues classic Bulldoze Blues
- On The Road Again It gives me a chill when I hear it
- Sic ‘Em Pigs If you’re big, strong & stupid we want you. Please call 626-9180, remedial courses are available for the culturally deprived.
Damn, that was a hard one too.
Thanking you all in advance. Hope to see some of you over at the J J Cale Supplemental poll Have a great week!
